Usage Based Billing approved, Canadian govt shoots it down, more developments to come

this is going nowhere... sigh

The gears often turn slowly.

He's saying there was only one dissenting voice in the CRTC for the decision...and it amounted only to the actual number behind the cap. How very curious.

IPTV is from a DIFFERENT part of the tube not the same regular internet part.....

IPTV traffic has the same effect on Bell's network as Wholesale customer traffic has on Bell's network.

Bell doesn't have to pay a cost from backbone providers from both, but they have to deliver traffic from one of their offices to a customer's home.

People should write Brain Masse, and let him know we support what he was asking and hope he continues to press his colleagues on this. He is the only one who gets it so far, and now we're getting a bunch people who know nothing about the industry.

Did Finkie seriously say IPTV doesn't use the internet/bandwidth?

IPTV isn't capped because it doesn't use the internet. I hope Teksavvy or someone uses that logic to give people unlimited bandwidth. "Internet without the internet! Teksavvy now running on unlimited IPTV tubes."

Can we have his email address? He was great!

What if my small business is a HD video production company?

Fuck this shit. This is terrible. What a fucking runabout.

"I don't have the figures! I wasn't at the council meeting when the decision was made."

Then fucking send someone who knows what they're talking about and who was at the meeting. God dam it.

I already rattled off an email to Brian Masse thanking him for being the only one so far to shed light on this ridiculous mess.

Honestly...Von Finckenstein looks like such a boob. There's no way this will get traction.

as someone who can't watch, what happened?

a bunch of rural mps that know nothing about the internet ask horrible questions while an NDP mp was railing the crtc speaker into the ground but got cut off for time.

Paraphrasing here...and the fuckin' idiot was bumbling and frantically trying to come up with an answer to...

"So what happened? What changed over the last few days? Why the delay in the policy now?"

Von Finckenstein - "Well it was Bell. Bell asked us to delay. It was Bell that asked us to start this whole thing to begin with."

And when Bell wants something done at the CRTC, you'd better goddamned believe it gets done!

He's actually my MP. I'll be glad to do that.

As much as we knock heads with Quebec at least it appear they have larger testicles than the conservative/liberal english representatives. I also sent the NDP rep. a supportive email.

(Now she had to go ahead and look stupid by talking about dial up connections that aren't affected by this)

hrmmm I think this bloc person is a little confused about the lack of high speed issue..

No I think she was using the French racial trait of Passive-Aggressiveness to get him to incriminate himself.

lol, Fink is being asked to prove how traffic congestion is an issue and Fink has no idea wtf to do.

The weird thing about von Finckenstein is that his background is actually very pro-consumer. He's the federal judge who ruled file sharing / p2p / passive uploading legal in Canada, and he was the head of the competition board. I remember telling people for years that Konrad von Finckenstein would make a great CRTC head because he would be able to smack down some of the more egregious corporate bullshit.

As we are watching this, you need to explain yourself. Because Konrad von Finckenstein is the worst possible CRTC head you can imagine.

WTF? They already ARE throttling us, this has nothing to do with it, Frankenstein! Bell didn't approach you cause of congestion cause throttling was already placed. Bell came to you to suck consumers dry!

That's right, UBB is about extortion, not congestion.

Also, to people who think in 20 years we won't have luddite politicians, think again. The types of people who get into politics are the opposite of technophiles.
