some dumb bitch is talking now is asking questions about things that were answered a million times before

I'm not sure she has a job when she can enter a meeting like this and not even be aware that the ruling was stayed for 60 days. Who was she?

please please answer this question smartly

please bring up australia

please

Yes. These guys are just passing over this question, which could be the most important. Of course the technology exist. Korea, Japan, Final, Sweden, Australia.. they do not have alien technology. It is available, but companies like Bell will do everything they can do avoid putting more money into the pot.

They're talking alot about how much Bell has invested in the network. What was it about the government giving them money or something in order to upgrade the networks?

Can you summarize it?

just the board asking :

do you believe the CRTC is doing what Bell asked? Do you believe that you're treated worse than end users (ie not liking to be doing business with you)

Both answered yes.

basically is asking: is there favoritism and anti-competitive behavior occurring?

If someone could post a link to the archived segment when it's up, that'd be great. I missed the first hour, or so and only got the tail end of Teksavvy/Primus.

They didn't reach the conclusion that there was a fundamental conflict of interest between growing the infrastructure as well as selling it. I wish they had mentioned that and realized that this is a sticking point. I believe that Australia was asking for proposals from private companies to build a network, but then they said "fuck it" and scrapped it altogether in order to start a national broadband network.

How long is it? Will be sure to give it a listen when i get home. And is the Anderson who talked Steve Anderson from OpenMedia? Been wondering if they'd get something up with him.

I'm converting the stream to an MP3 using VLC player but it looks like I'll have to let it run the whole 2 hours before it finishes. If anyone has a better way please let us know.

The first hour of this is very good. TekSavvy especially, but Primus too are great, and not beating around the bush. And we have some decent questions from MPs.

I wish people would bring up the literal cost of a gb. Some of these people demonize UBB, but it's simply the cost that they charge that is insane.

Not like Bell wants to charge $0.20-$0.30 per gb for customers, which is a large markup, because the average user only uses 15gb per month.

UBB would be fair if it was $0.05-$0.10 per GB but it will never happen because the flat rates they charge now earns astronomical amounts of profit. Even the heaviest users out there don't use enough internet juice for these companies to lose money on the monthly flat rate that heavy users pay. bell, rogers, shaw and the other companies blame the consumer but in reality they're the ones at fault for not upgrading and mainting the network correctly. this is what happens when all you focus on is shareholders, record profits and salaries.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but looks like Shaw is taking a step back...for now!

they're stepping back for two reasons. one is mainly because they're having trouble getting their monitoring systems working reliably. it's been down most of the time since they announced UBB.

the second is they've also been getting hammered with angry consumers and people cancelling their services. their facebook page is a total hate-fest. i wonder if they're losing so many consumers that the loss of their business is starting to make the profits of UBB not worth it.

lol I've been with my Bell promo for 2 weeks and my usage always reads as 0%

now is says

That was one of the best one's I've seen in a long time! Too many crappy ones on Youtube nowadays lol

Maybe because this one hit home... I have Rogers Extreme at my parents' house (the cap is bad enough for its speed) and Rogers Lite at my own home. The speed is quite good, but with a 15gb cap (absolute BS!) I get nervous when I play CoD and a 200mb custom map loads... or when my Steam games update. I even have to temper my Windows security updates.

Life with the internet should not be this way.

It has said it moved to buy majority control of CTV last fall to ensure that cable companies didn't have a lock on content.

Uh... I believe that's what the cable companies are for. Telecom providers are just there to deliver that content to the consumers...

edit 2: "uhhhhh uhhhhh uhhhhhh uhhhhhhhhh uhhhhhhhh uhhhhhh uhhhhhh uhhhhhhh"

Some pretty poor speakers today, also the translator is pretty awful, she seems to be getting noticeably angry or something as she keeps correcting herself.

I guess Bell is up to bat next in a few minutes?
