Usage Based Billing approved, Canadian govt shoots it down, more developments to come

Bell is asking for the delay?

What's going to happen is that they're just waiting for the election to be over to push the issue... right guys? :lol

Fuck Bell. They request for a delay to try to save face -after- they know that the government plans to reverse the decision. Bell and Rogers can go rot in hell.

Fuck the delay. Kill it now. If they refuse, CRTC needs a complete shake down. Push them on this Liberals. If the Tories have to save us from these idiots, I don't know how I can possibly vote for Liberals next election. NDP.. to the rescue?

That's it? :/

That's not "it".

That's government for; "Derp...we don't know what the fuck is going on, but the proles are up in arms about this. Let's use these two months to create a task-force, at which point the task-force will say their investigation is inconclusive and need a further delay."

I could be wrong but I doubt this will ever see the light of day now.

DISCIPLINE THE MARKET!!!!!

u guys watching something else? they are talking about the free trade agreement??
You need to switch to the Committee stream (you're on the Floor debate stream).

I don't know if it's the translator fucking things up right now, but this response seems insane.

Seems like Finckenstein is backpedalling on every accusation saying, "No, no, that's not what we meant! We're not the bad guys!"

So what im getting from this guy is that the network is so overloaded that regulation is required.

lol applying electricty and oil pricing to the internet

How can someone so involved with this discussion be so painfully short sighted as Finckenstein. Either has has no perspective at all or has been drinking Bell/Rogers juice for too long. Either way I think someone with a better grasp of technology should be working at the CRTC. Too many beaurocrats don't even understand that the freedom is dependant on the free exchange of information and decisions like this work directly against the masses.

I also like how they can't decide if it is a large problem or affects very few people in which case it's not a network problem.

I wish there was someone savvy enough on the panel to call him on his bullshit. I wish there was someone evil enough to bait him into incriminating himself.

Gotta push that agenda...

The theory of what Finckenstein is one thing, but the reality is that the caps and cost is competely out of scale and has no sense in reality.

Thank god this clown isn't in charge of our infrastructure. We'd be paying monthly fees on the roads based on the length of our commutes.

Reverse it, don't delay. They obviously want:

1. time to make UBB an easier pill to swallow
2. time to allow the public/politcal/media response to diffuse
3. a more opportunistic time to pass UBB through.

all the while consumers, small ISPs, and online businesses have to wait in limbo to determine the future of Canada's internet.

It's also insane because it's so obvious that in the immediate near future the amount of bandwidth that everyone is going to be using is going to explode in size.

So the CRTC never saw OpenMedia bum rushing the fuck out of them.
Now they've sent von Finckenstein, who's unprepared as hell, to run damage control/STALL.

We caught you with your pants down trying to take a piss on us.

We kind of do already. Fuel surcharges and shit.

He likes to talk a lot about the 'well being' of ISPS and talks little about the well being of the people who he's actually supposed to be looking after.

OMFG @ THIS GUY!!!!

IS HE FOR REAL!?!?!?!?!

edit: holy fuck im smoking right now, we're paying this guy to run the crtc? JESUS CHRIST. He keeps saying that 15% isnt enough of a discount for the ca[ imposed for the smaller ISP's... HOW ABOUT NO FUCKING CAP AT ALL!?!?!?!?!
