Valve announces a new portable, Steam Deck

I guess it's good for people who want more powerful handheld, but I bought my Switch for games rather than power.

If only Steam had games. Or any other Windows Store Front.

Since gamepass is Windows exclusive it won't work on Linux, but there's nothing that can be done about that on the Linux side since it's a Microsoft service.
Considering that MS wants to get Gamepass on every device known to man, they will either port Xbox App to SteamOS, or make a deal with Valve to make Gamepass accessible via Steam itself. Just a matter of time.

What is nice is that not only near all PC games ever made will run on SteamDeck, but so will many console games. Including WiiU and Switch games.

For someone who isn't a huge graphics whore and is fine with 3-5 second loading screens from time to time, should I get the $399 or the $529? They'll be getting a 512gb micro SD card regardless of which.

800p will not look great imho on 7inch screen but it will be able run games almost on xss level thx to this low res

Lol it's in the middle of the night here you need to draw it in paint or something, the picture I'm getting in my sleepy head doesn't look comfortable at all compared to slouching with a portable console
Well, I don't know what to tell you. Lying back on a couch with a 15" 4K screen on a chair seems far more comfortable than holding onto a weird looking Switch-esque thing, but you do you.

Wouldn't they need to port the Windows Store and make all of their games Linux compatible or are we talking about their streaming offering?

Gabe did say a few months ago that they were working with MS on something, this is probably it.

This is I said when Sony announced their games on Steam, maybe today it's not your direct competitor, but can be tomorrow. If this console is successful for Steam, they will launch their own domestic console

If I am lying home on a couch, I will use my 55" plasma to play games.
But I will use Steam Deck when there is downtime at work, or when I want to quickly play something in bed before going to sleep, or when I am at a cottage lying in a hammock just chilling outside. It has a much different use case than laptop.

Yeah it needs to happen. Just show they're serious. I've stumble and double dipped on Microsoft's GP and Steam games before (Ori) and the versions didn't even share saves.

I think if you're willing to drop $400 on a purchase like this then you may as well spend another $250 and get the best.

The portability factor isn't worth that price for the hardware it's packing. Not in my view.

That's just your opinion. Plenty of people will buy this for the amount of utility alone.

Stick to your Series S and better luck shilling next time.

All of those use cases you've described there are so funny to me. The idea that I must make sure that there is literally not a single second of my life that I can't fill with video games is just kind of amusing. I guess this thing just isn't for me.

I wish the default option was larger but that free space should fit most games to the internal storage if you don't mind micro managing the storage for the games you are currently playing. The upgrade storage options seem out of whack.

It looks pretty easy to install a web browser (or it comes with one installed, I guess...) as they're showing it in all the promotional material. Game Streaming from XCloud would probably work with that...

Has this industry learned nothing from it's mistakes? Never let Giant Enemy Crabs anywhere near your product. Makes my wrists hurt just looking at it! Holy Hell!

Thumbs Up on the Specs though!

It is wonderful how much of an arrogant twat you are being. What I wrote are just examples of use cases where this will be more useful than a laptop. It does not mean MUST PLAY VIDEOGAMES ALWAYS. But then you know that.

Calm down, tough guy. I think your use cases are funny. I also said that the device wasn't for me. Deal with it, you fucking pathetic snowflake.

So you are telling me the upcoming SMT5 will playable on this device?
You'll be able to play it through the Yuzu emulator most likely

Color me interested. I have a large steam library and currently my gaming PC is used for mining. And decent GC are expensive due to current scarcity.
So a portable Steam machine, that seem quite open to custom apps and connectable to a large panel of devices... A bit pricey but i'll keep an eye on it for christmas.

A concern might be windows 11 and direct storage compatibility which may need an nvme drive. Though I don't even know if the thing can run W11 given its strange system requirements.

I can't wait to see benchmarks for the same games on Gabe Gear running Windows vs SteamOS. Windows seems essential.

I'm not saying Steam doesn't have games, I'm if it has the games I personally care about.

I've seen your posts, pretty sure you're interested in these games.
