Vita a virtual no show at Sony conference

So many people responded to me being upset about E3's vita showing with comments like "gamescome is for vita idiot. what were you expecting. wait until gamescom like always."

Not to generalize, bit that's been going on for a few years now.
"Wait until E3, they'll show games there."
"Wait until Gamescon, they'll show all the games they've been saving here there"
"Wait until TGS, there's when all the Japanese developers will be showing all their games!"

Rinse and repeat. Throw in a few Sony PR guys hyping up lackluster announcements and you're be good to go.

Wait until PSP3/Vita2, there's lots of games there.

Its no surprise to me. The PS Vita is dead out West. You want to read about upcoming Vita games, read famitsu, dengeki, kotaku, etc for Ps Vita games

Or read the topic about upcomimg games here on the forum. No AAA stuff of course but combined with remote play just pure awesome.

Vita games don't make big showcases for press conferences.

It's lacking in first party titles; doesn't mean they're dead. Not in the slightest.

Especially when there's a lot of third party and indie support. I've said it before, but there's more Vita games I've picked up and played this year than any other platform, and there's still more to come in the rest of this year.

I dont even know what I have my vita for yea the ps+ games are straight but i could buy all of them now. Theres nothing to look forward to I was atleast hoping it would had gotten some kind of kingdom hearts but its not happening

Vita's obviously not dead but it's just as obviously not a focus of marketing or development. There will always be great niche, indie, cross-buy, and emulation titles to occupy our time with the very occasional exclusive like Gravity Rush 2 (even Tearaway isn't exclusive anymore, and good for them if more people can play it).

Vita's story has already been told by now. Sony is throwing all their 1st party/exclusive muscle at the console war and cutting losses for the handheld to salvage what they can, which is fine by me. On a related note, Wii U will continue to get amazing 1st party titles supplemented by occasional eShop and Virtual Console gems, which is also fine by me. I know what these systems are and I love them for those strengths.

i'm perfectly fine with where the vita is at the moment.

ill be getting Akiba's Trip, Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus, Oreshika Bloodlines and if it reviews well Freedom Wars. Plus whatever is coming out on PS+ I'll be good for another year.

Hmm... just found that there was a Gamescom 2014 trailer for the Vita version of Minecraft.
Something, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW6ERne8CJI

Also this, tweeted today/yesterday:

The Vita version also comes with a copy for PS3, I'm assuming digitally.

I am sad for the Vita. It's a great system that I play a lot, but it's obvious things are not going well...Honestly, I am happy Tearaway is ported to ps4 since it really deserves a larger audience. Same for Gravity Rush : at this point I wouldn't mind the franchise to jump on ps4 since it's pretty sad to see such a gem confined to a unsuccesful system.

Ooo, cross buy? Impressive. Yeah, cross buy has, to my knowledge, never included physical for both platforms. It's either digital only for both, or, rather rarely, the physical version for one has a code to download the other. Minecraft would be an awful game to have not digital though, people would never want to remove the cart. That's why I wish I got Animal Crossing New Leaf digital
I mean, if Nintendo were sane about digital

Sony could at least announce the multi-user feature in Vita.
It would be useful for PlayStation TV...

Edit: Or a memory card price drop!

People Want To Know Why Sony Forgot About The Vita

You'd be forgiven for thinking, if you watched today's Sony Gamescom conference, that Sony has already given up on the PlayStation Vita.

Sony's 80-minute presser was all PS4, without much mention of their underappreciated handheld. In fact, the Vita even lost an exclusive—Tearaway—giving gamers one less reason to buy an expensive new portable system.

There are threads on GAF and Reddit wondering why the Vita was a no-show. One particularly nasty Reddit thread is full of anger and frustration from Vita fans who feel like they've been abandoned.

They practically don't mention the thing at all anymore and it hasn't been properly stocked for months even after a supposedly flagship bundle came out... the writing's on the wall.

In protest to the Vita no show I just bought Tearaway and Persona 4 Golden.
This is how boycotts work, right?

It's funny though, whenever there's a poll on here and elsewhere, people that own a Vita and a PS3/4 generally seem to prefer playing cross-buy games on the Vita. I'd suggest that's because many Vita owners see the value in a handheld form factor.

For me it depends on the type of game. Indie type games that have retro graphics etc. I'll play on the Vita as I feel like I'm wasting my gaming time playing that stuff on PS3/4 on the big screen when I always have AAA games to play.

So I get some portable value for sure. Less since I bit the bullet and got an HD box for the second TV so I don't have to bicker with the fiance about who uses the main one when. :D

Would a 1 minute Vita sizzle reel have been that difficult? Seriously.

I mean, out of 60 seconds, you'd have about 16 for intro/outro (crapload of logos, various blurbs, "available soon" etc.). That leaves about 44 seconds. Let's say you portion these into 4-second bits per game. Meaning 11 games.

Out of the 200+ games coming to the Vita, some are Japan-only so far, with localisation unknown. Some, like Criminal Girls, Bullet Girls or Monster Monpiece, are unpresentable. Some have been released on too many platforms to be worth mentioning. But out of those remaining, surely you could've pieced together 11 for a modest preview.

Would it have really strained advertising funds to throw at least a hint to Vita's uncoming releases? Honestly, how much could that sizzle reel have cost to make? $3000?

Sigh....
