******* vs. David Jaffe - Meltdown

Jaffe, we love you man, you kick ass and make awesome games, but you need to take some anger management courses. Don't sweat the small stuff.

:lol

"And it's all small stuff!"

Creflo Dollar style. Tuesdays With Morrie. Rich Dad, Poor Dad. The Secret. All the greats. All the other ones. I love self-help books.

:)

yeah, I'm sure he is a great bloke. His games are great, but why the rage. Not that I don't get a good laugh out of it when an 'important' person makes his own PR nightmare but...

Jaffe respect +100 - NeoGAF loves you and your trash-talking, man.

'I hope kotaku ****ing puts your ass out of business' :lol :lol Joystiq am cry.

Because his name doesn't rhyme with Jennis Jyack?

But really if it was anyone else, I bet there'd be a much different response. ("Just shut up and work on the game!" "Just shut up and give me 4xAA!" "Just shut up and write some decent ****in' dialogue!" et al.)

Well, GAF users tend to run on the young side (late teens to early/mid twenties), and when you're that age you tend to find this type of internet flaming hilarious. Nothing really wrong with that - I used to, as well. In the real world, though, stuff like this tends to make your employers begin to view you as a "problem," and you end up taking anger management classes or getting fired. Then the same people who were cheering you on and calling you "the man" for sticking it to someone will almost certainly do a 180 and start calling you a dumbass for getting fired.

And it's funny from start to finish.

Once you realize that if he lost this rage he has built up he would be a different person altogether, and probably wouldn't make the same games, you find the whole process funny.

Builds up rep for making good games -> Becomes a gaming god -> loses mind -> posts on GAF -> starts making GAF-like statements to non-GAF media -> GAF laughs -> in come the men with white coats and straightjacket -> GAF laughs -> no more Jaffe games -> GAF finds new dev to start the process over.

GAF wins.

Generalize much?

(The GAF poll in the OT side put the average age of GAFers at 24-26 if I recall)

I don't like his games. But I certainly like what he wrote there. It was made of pure awesome.

Edit:

So you're saying that if you're old, you're boring? **** the man I say, no matter how old you are. Once you give in and lose that spark, you may as well shuffle off the mortal coil.

Well, you can only say "**** the man" for so long until you're just muttering it under your breath in the unemployment line. And there's a whole helluva lot of difference between standing up to authority for what you believe in, and getting into a pisswar with a videogame gossip site. One makes you look like you're standing up for your principles - the other makes you look thin-skinned and hysterical.

Jaffe mentioned Gaf, we'll be getting another 1,000 juniors soon.
right before april npd no doubt :(

i don't think what j stiq said was that bad, and i do think it was a bit of an overreaction on jaffe's part, but it was an entertaining overreaction and i don't get *******'s logic in seemingly condemning a game being delayed in order to fix a glaring issue.

i mean, what's the alternative? put it out broken and patch it later? we have enough of that crap already.

Whawhawhat??? Wow did Jaffe overreact! The quote was "Like a little girl struggling to keep her favorite doll out of the garage sale bin"

They said nothing of the bargain bin. It was a clever way of saying Jaffe loves his project so much, he wants to keep working on it and doesn't want to let go of it. Kind of like a little girl who doesn't want to let her doll go.

That's how I read it too. I'm sure Joysick (sp) is going WTF? :)

You do realize that's "mid-twenties," right?
I could be right all the time if I made a range that was from 13-25, too!

*******'s post is bizarrely critical of Jaffe's rant, but on the flip side, why should ******* be responsible for tracking down a quote of his on a message board? If he wanted to explain why his game was delayed, make a blog post or have your PR people communicate it. Not cool.

Only I wrote "Late teens to early/mid twenties." I read that "GAF age" thread, too. The average age was 24-26, with the remainder weighing heavily on the late teens side. Nice try, though.

:lol

At least someone doesn't hold back when dealing with some of the retards passing themselves off as "journalists".

It's pretty commendable that a developer is willing to go back to the code and remedy a problem like this.

It's funny because if you look at the ******* post, they actually have a link to the neogaf post from Jaff. So they obviously did read it. Actually, I think it's Jaffe that needs to read *******'s post (maybe twice, and all the way through one of those times) before he overreacts...

Hmm, maybe I should read Jaffe's actual post to see if it really was an overreaction...

The definition of journalist has expired in these modern times. ******* has always been straight up about being a bunch of sarcastic prick bloggers anyway.

Jaffe was stupid to overreact like that. I agree with his words, but all this does is bolster *******; their story is probably getting bombarded with hits. Not to mention it makes Jaffe look unprofessional.

I'm not much for tracking the lives of the game developing world. In other words, I don't idolize or really spend much time thinking about game developers and such.

Anyway, I just decided to read Jaffe's last few blog posts, and i've got one thing to say. The guy needs a little help. Seriously. He just lets this stuff consume him. He's waaay too sensitive to other people's opinions. Who cares if Gamespot gave your game a 6.7, they are the ones that look stupid if the game turns out to be an amazing game that people are still playing a year from now. They have to live with that score, just like everyone goes on record when they give anything a score.

I just hope he gets some help in some way, because he's not gonna be ok if he keeps it up like this. He sounded like a lunatic at times in his ramblings.

I would be much more impressed if he could make an intelligent argument without resorting to every other word being f***.

I thought this needed to be quoted again.

Gaf really needs to stop the nut hugging and use some common sense.

And when the game comes out, I'm sure he'll be asking all of the gaming sites for new reviews of the game. I'd like to see all of you defend that decision, and this whole situation, at that point.

Wait just a minute there.

There is a big difference between Dyack, and Jaffe.

Jaffe has created what some believe to be one of the best games ever made, in God of War. Dennis Dyack is still hoping to make a game as good as that, and in fact appears to be ripping major gameplay elements from GoW in hopes of doing so.

In other words I don't think Dyack should even be mentioned in the same league as Jaffe.

I'm having trouble finding it within myself to dignify this pathetic state of affairs with a proper response.

Either I'm reading Joy.stiq wrong or Jaffe is.

Can't say I really side with Jaffe on this one. There's a reason why software goes Gold, regardless of whether you're delivering it via physical media or just distributing via network. It helps to eliminate scope creep by establishing a hard deadline, focusing efforts on what can reasonably be accomplished in the allotted time. Constant tweaking with no firm endpoint can just as easily create bugs as resolve them.

Regardless of whatever else Joistiq is guilty of they called you on it fairly, I think. You had more than enough time to address the issues with this game.

I don't believe it. Everyone was calling out Denis for being "unprofessional" in the EGM podcast. Yet this sort of behavior is "professional"?

Like someone said, maybe Denis needs to cuss everyone out and he'll get more respect as it seems to work for David. Judging from this thread, Jaffe has an army of Pool Boys at the ready. :lol
