WAPO: Trump to 'Decertify' Iran deal

As bad and stupid this is, this really is some 4D chess being played by Trump's advisors(since he is too stupid to have thought of this on his own):

1)Rile the base on touchy subjects and overpromise (DACA, Iran deal) into winning the deal
2)Pass the buck to congress because he sure as shit can't do it on his own
3)Congress is even less likely to get it done and the American public already hates congress for it
4)Blame congressional disfunction at election time and promise to get it done on your own on next term

That will be interesting. Iran then can restart their nuclear program from next week which could then mean that by year's end we have another war in the middle east (or Iran has a bomb within the next 12 months). There could be some wiggle room if Iran can get Europe and the other countries who signed the agreement to put sanctions on the US for violating the agreement. For Europe this is a lose-lose proposition, either disconnect from the US or get even more wars and more refugees and more terrorism from the middle east. The only realpolitik option for Europe might be to help Iran to get a nuclear bomb, since once Iran has the bomb it is too late for Israel or the US to attack Iran.

If he does this, Iran will go nuclear and Israel would be fucked. I don't even think the Conservatives in Israel would go with this, except his buddies Avigdor and Benjamin.

I heard from a reliable source that Obama was deeply afraid of putting a gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger. Pass it on. Don't tell trump though.

If this deal gets tossed out despite them following it, Iran absolutely should sprint towards nuclear weapons. The GOP have been trying to drum up war with them for years and we can't even be trusted to uphold agreements anymore.

Why should North Korea stop as well now?

Nikki Haley said the deal doesn't stop Iran from doing horrible things like testing missiles. So it's a bad deal.

This is a *nuclear* deal. Of course it doesn't stop Iran from testing ICBM and such.

Instead of pushing new deals on other things, Trump and friends try to decertify Iran even if they did comply by not developing nuclear weapons.

Decertifying would also make the NK situation worse: Kim can just say US is not credible and cannot be trusted.

How stupid

The whole world knows USA can not be trusted and has no respect for its allies and international treaties.

Rogue nation, it is that simple.

Trump is looking for any excuse to get into a war in hopes it will bump up his ratings.

Decerting the Iran deal would be a disaster and a huge setback in relations. It would also give the Iranian hardliners an open door. The deal is really one of the only positive outcomes of Obama's foreign policy initiatives.

Why would the GOP want war so bad anyway? Trump launching missiles in Syria was one of his few moves his base was actually pretty unsure about. It's one of the few moves they can do that would actually turn a certain # of their base against them.

Hopefully, but they've had a hard on for attacking Iran since the '70s. It could well be different.

So why on earth does anyone ever make a deal with the US again? Pendulum just swings super hard. I could see it if you are okay with a high risk investment re: money deals, but yeah... several are gonna have major reservations about anything to do with em. It really just makes countries push ahead on their NR.

Brutal all around.

The Iran hawks still believe that the US can effect regime change through military means. Any compromise, rapprochement or deal the Islamic Republic is viewed as legitimizing a government that should not exist.

The reasons they want the regime gone seem to be Iran's support for anti-Israel forces, its stockpile of natural resources and it's historic apathy to the United States.

Motivation aside, I think their notion of destroying Iran and rebuilding it in the USA's image is a pipe dream that already proved disastrous in Iraq.

Trump knows that once he gets his war, the vast majority of internal criticism will cease. The press will fall into line, and Americans from all political backgrounds will queue up to salute the flag and the troops
