War Thunder |OT| Tanks, Planes And Automobiles

Is there something I can do to see target indicator for ground unit? I saw a few youtube video and it has something like "AAA 10KM" indicator, but nothing in PS4 version. Meanwhile a plane 10KM away has an indicator.

You should be able to select ground targets the same way you can select air targets. It's a certain key, but I don't know what it's mapped to on PS4.

On PS4, if there are 10 planes in front of me I can see all 10 planes with the distance indicator. Very obvious where the plane is, and I don't need to "set target".

If there are 10 tanks in front of me, I see a small red semi flashing square if I am very far away, but once I get close (but not close enough to visually see the tank) the small red flashing square disappear.

Sure, but if you don't "select" a plane as your target, it's harder to track. You also won't get a lead indicator in Arcade. I assume the game visually prioritizes air targets over ground targets because they're generally a much more immediate threat / relevant target, even if farther away.

(Keep in mind, I am speaking for Air Battles only, I haven't played much Tank stuff)

Either way, whatever the button is to "set target" - you'll do the same on a ground target.

I played the other day for the first time in months. The interface is more confusing than ever. How do I tell what tier my planes are in? They really need to simplify their shit for casual players.

It sure is

Also, I believe you can look at the tiers by the roman numeral next to the plane name under the research tab.

as of now I would say warframe is considerably better, but I just started this game so give it time... but my first criticism is where are the fun missions? are there any recon, spy, dogfighting, bombing, etc?
and settings? city, sea, country, mountain, etc?

There are plenty of various maps, historical battles, simulator battles, and mixed mode battles.

It's a PvP game for the most part so I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for.

Also battlefield has much better flying which is pretty bad for a full flying game, however, this

Not even close to being true.

Also, anyone get the internet radio working for the PS4 version, I want to do a Vinny from Euro Truck Simulator 2 quick look and be the weird guy listening to weird foreign stations.

For special bullet, there is a quantity (80) in the picture and a price 4 silver eagle. What does that mean?
- 80 shots will cost 4 silver eagle?
- 80 reload will cost 4 silver eagle?
- Each reload is 4 eagle and you have to buy 80 of them at once?

Are they actually worth the money early on?

It's the cost of each reload, essentially. It isn't worth worrying about from a money standpoint because it should never influence how much you make in a round all that much.

Universal and air target belts are almost always better than the default belt.

lol I don't get why I keep losing with China. Matchmaking is random with countries, right?

When I play China, I kill 12-15 ground vehicles, and the team loses by 15 vehicles. Maybe I just get bad luck and get matched up with noobs when I play China.

Edit: Finally won. I killed like 25 ground vehicles myself.

Maybe it's because you're all alone playing China
You can't pick China
I might be wrong, I just started playing this

I love tank battles. Really satisfying to get a one it kill. Though after there latest update, I keep running into a glitch where it says press U to repair and I press it, it then says starting repair in 5 secs (or how ever long the wait is) but once the timer hits 0, it just says "press U to repair" again. Really annoying. Also some enemies will de rez right in front of me. (this is all tank battles, I suck at the air battles) Though this isn't really a problem since I can still hit them.

Just because it's pvp doesn't mean there shouldn't be naval battles, recon, escort, bombing runs, etc. Which there may be but why can't I find them at low levels? Wrong menu or more unlocking first

Eh woops, I meant Russia.

I mistaken it probably cuz I was tired and both China and Soviet Union flag are just red with something yellow in the top left.

You unlock more mission scenarios as you progress through the various trees. You can bring your aircraft to historical battles that they took part in, which there probably aren't a lot of at really low levels.

PS4 users might want to focus on flying and tactics, because they're getting seal-clubbed right now in every match I see.

High altitude bombing is pretty okay.

I got third place purely with bombing at 4km alt, but it wasn't very interesting. Much more effective than shooting things, but less action.

Several things every bomber learns by the end of tier 3:
- high altitude bombing is okay if high means > 6km;
- you don't need to fly highest, you need to fly higher than closest friendly bomber;
- respect your gunners for they are the only thing that keeps you alive (for half a minute);
- when in doubt - dive to friendly fighters.

...and then come jets and the action begins.

I am confused, I play the realistic battle and it put me in Korea. I am trying to bomb stuff with the Russian I-16 but I don't have a bomb sight at all so I miss all the target.

Also in arcade mode, I can only see the bomb sight if I descend. I don't see it if I am flying level. What's give?

Just started playing this and it seems really fun. I'm a little intimidated with all of the things I can do to my planes. What should I be focusing on in the beginning?

I have a stupid question. How do you get to fly the bombers? do you have to buy one or is it already unlocked? I have battle set to air battles, but I can't never get the bombers. I try to switch it to one of the bombers in the window, but it won't let me (it's not in red) so what's up?

An I-16 doesn't have a bombsite or a bombardier, so you have to dive bomb with it.

New pilots should dump all of their points into G tolerance, vitality, stamina, reload, and weapon maintenance. In that order of importance.

G tolerance makes the planes handle progressively better the more you have.

You have to research it, but some (all?) Russian bi plane can carry small bombs (after research).

When you play in arcade, if all of your planes get shot down, does that mean you need to pay repair cost for all 4? But if you don't get shot down, then only the plane you use will get research point?

Do I have to get to a certain level before I start upgrading my pilot?

EDIT: I see that I can start straight away, but should I invest on my lower tier planes, or should I horde the points?

EDIT2: BTW, my name is dubzinator on the PS4 if anyone wants to play some time.

The points are for your crew, and your crew belongs to that same slot forever, regardless of the plane in it. The experience stays with the crew. You can further enhance a crew's ability with a certain plane by certifying them for silver lions. This gives bonuses to several attributes, but is only good for that plane and that crew in that slot.

Thank you. One more question. How do I set my default plane for the beginning of each match?

This is really jank, but it works. Use the touchpad controls to select your plane at the beginning of the match and select with R2. Its terrible but its the only way I've found that works.

What an awesome game! I am in love with it inside out. I love how you can grind your way to earn a lot of things. As always, f2p premium exists, but I don't mind it as long as it doesn't prevent me from having the major experience.

War Thunder really gets the amount of content divided by the amount of effort to see it right. The early parts of the game - where it's really easy to play for free - are arguably the most fun.

I honestly don't see any fun in both flying jets and flying versus jets. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but in arcade they are just too different from everything before. It's possible that after there'll be more jets, including bombers, added, it'll make more sense to me, though I don't see how jets can be mixed with tanks.

So yeah, most fun for me, to make sure there's no jet around, are tiers 2-3. Tier 1, with biplans and weak guns, is too slow, imho.

I'm sorry for all the UI questions, but it's confusing.

Where do I see how much RP (research points) I have?

The only research points that pool are "convertible research points". These are generated alongside regular research points.

These can be used in conjunction with golden eagles (gold currency) to skip ahead of the RP requirements for whatever plane you are researching.

You research 1 plane per country, and each plane has a pool that gets built by killing things when you fly it to unlock parts specific to that plane. These can also be bought for gold currency.

And on the PS4 version, how do I get to the page that shows all the planes you can eventually get and research?

Thanks for all the help btw.

I am getting irritated with the way the camera works in the game. I don't know how many times I have lost orientation while trying to perform a maneuver due to the camera not remaining static by default. I am really enjoying this game but the decision to tie my pilots "head" to the same stick that controls my planes vertical movement is odd. I don't like how my pilot's view will go straight up if I have to pull hard on the stick coming out of a dive, I'd rather it stay focused on the nose of the plane.

I also find it confusing at times to have two crosshairs. If I am not paying attention I'll find myself aiming wih the crosshair that displays my pilots head orientation and not actually aiming with my gun crosshairs. All in all it is fun despite some strange design choices.

I don't have the PS4 version currently but on the PC it's the 'research' tab above your hangar/crews/planes.

Your current research plane will show as a progress bar and most everything else will be red meaning it's locked. If it's not red but has the blue marker it means you can research it then buy it.

Once you've researched a plane, it will automatically give you options to chose from at the end of the round you finished the research, and it will put any leftover points towards that new plane. You should never really be not researching something.

I am getting irritated with the way the camera works in the game.

It works really well with a mouse and keyboard. If the PS4 version has the option, try that, or try switching from mouse aim to controller/joystick in the options. It might suit a controller better.

I love the mouse aim and it's fantastically friendly for new players but I could see it causing some issues for controller users. On the PC, head movement and awareness is what separates the good players from the scrubs, so most people are constantly using freelook, even during maneuvers. Tunnel vision is a surefire way to get killed by a better player. I almost feel bad when I dive on someone that should have known I was there but didn't care to look. Almost.

Early tiers are pretty forgiving. The real individualism of the countries begins to show up in late 2, and all throughout the third tier. That's where the fun is.

Just made a PC account and OMG is it easier to play with the m/kb. I was getting middle of the pack scores on the ps4, and now I'm regularly in the top 3.

Ok, I've just read Gaijin E3 announcement, and two things caught my attention:

Gaijin said:
In the main booth War Thunder will be available on Playstation®4 (PS4™), PC, Mac and even new platforms. Media may book personal appointments with developers that will include announcements for new platforms, further plans and a VR experience.

So, is XONE version coming? Or is it WiiU?

And as for VR - Oculus, Morpheus or both?

Tip for PC players: while you are playing your PC also hosts a nice version of the battle map at port 8111.

So, you can navigate to http://localhost:8111 on your browser to alttab it. Or, even better, replace localhost with network name/ip address of your computer and use it from another device in the same network. There's also app for that.

I supposed using mouse is easier than using stick for fine aiming. But I like a stick much more than wasd for controlling..... this game should support move.

If they make it available on XBone then would be be the first game that has XBone v PS4 v PC? I think MS wants to control their cloud and does not allow cross platform match making, but maybe they have changed the stance. Anyways considered World of Tank is not even on Xbone yet, perhaps the new platform that they are talking about is Linux/Steam box.

Played a few more days and research seems to be extremely slow even for tier 1 plane.... and because I have 2 crappy tier 1 plane now the matching making system put me against bf109s. Any tip for research?

Is this down on PS4? I keep getting "can't load profile" and "no online access" or some such nonsense despite my internet working just fine. It's a bit sad that I decided to play it on a whim, had to download a system update and an 8 GB patch and couldn't even play.

I'm getting the same thing. Played just fine last night so must just be a server down or something.
