Was The Life Aquatic inspired/influenced by The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai?

I just saw The Life Aquatic last night and really enjoyed it. As I watched it, I couldn't help thinking how much it paralleled The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai:

1. A famous, eccentric main character...

2. ...Who assembles a group of eccentric specialists (Team Banzai/Team Zissou)...

3. ...Who live together in a cool clubhouse sort of place (The Banzai Institute/The Belafonte).

4. Quirky deadpan humor.

5. Jeff Goldblum.

6. Ned's letter written as a child is signed Blue Cadet Ned, just like Buckaroo's Blue Blaze Irregular junior members.

7. The approach and assault on the island hotel has the same comic vibe as Team Banzai's assault on the Yoyodyne factory.

8. The capper, Team Zissou's walk down the dock to the Belafonte during the credits seems like an homage to the Banzai March during the credits of BB.

That's got to be more than coincidence, anyone know if Wes Anderson is a Buckaroo Banzai fan?

You're not the only person who noticed this. My friend saw the movie before me and told me "there's an homage to Buckaroo Banzai."

You may be right.
