Week-Long 1up Ridge Racer 7 Cover Story (PANTS DAMAGE WARNING)

Seriously what the hell is going on with Namco regarding next-gen? Has Bandai's inner shittiness rubbed off on them?

It looks like they put a first gen ps2 car on next gen backgrounds.

The car looks so tiny against those extra wide roads. In fact it sort of looks like a toy car or a remote controlled car. They need to fix the lighting on the car pronto. The game looks excellent from a first person perspective, however.

Full Auto :: Full Auto 2
Ridge Racer 6 :: Ridge Racer 7

Namco fails at next-gen (so far, though 60fps is nice)

Does Sega fail at Next-gen too, because that is who publishes both Full Auto 1&2 (albiet psudeo interactive is the developer)

uh...i'm going to hope that the blandness of that video is just the "looks bad in low res/looks good in high res" phenomenon we saw with the screenshots. i'm optimistic like that. :x

On video, it looks just like the screens... but in motion. Better than RR6. Not a large gap though, but it does look better. What were you guys thinking?

I'd love to see the vids but gamevideos.com doesn't work for me and they have asked the youtube vids to be taken down. Woe is me :'(

LOL @ people who're judging the graphics of the game by some early beta video :lol

Oh teh noes where's the lighting? R77 IS D00000MED!!!!! Man, I swear...

the utube video has been taken down btw. didn't get a chance to see it :(

This is one of 1up's worst cover stories yet.

I'll take that as a compliment since you've never had a good word to say about any of our covers to date, anyway.

And to anyone else who's interested, the cars do have real-time reflection and environment mapping in-game. We were just restricted in what we were allowed to show in our footage. Sorry about that, but it's not like you had to pay for the content, lolamirite.

youre retared.

sure tha game doesnt look awesome, but it looks ok for a launch game. 60fps smoothness and no ****ing blurr are the best things.

Lol Racing games always look good. Look at GT4, looks the same as PGR on 360 minus the cardboard cutout crowd.

What? That's PURE BULLSHIT.

PGR3 has one of the best next-gen graphics.

I've never really said anything about 1UP's cover stories before. I liked your Yakuza stuff, for what it's worth. :P

I'm looking forward to picking up RR7, but on the cheap right around the Virtua Fighter 5 launch (as this is when the PS3 becomes worthy of purchasing). I defintely enjoyed RR6 a lot more than PGR 3 (too bad about the online lag that I experience for a while just because my Media Center was enabled...debug the game Namco ya basstids!)

It looks good, but it just doesn't take that next step. Like a very nice and extra detailed and clean current gen game, but it just doesn't make that jump in lighting to wear it really starts to look photo-realistic in some respects.

I keep seeing folks talking about 60 fps like it's a new feature for RR7...

IAWTP. and to the guy above saying it looks better in motion than RR6? wtf? is the PS3 version running @ 120fps or something? have you even played RR6? doesn't look much different motion wise from what i've seen from RR7 footage.

I think a lot of the RR7 boosters haven't seen the excellent 360 game. RR7 - if it's more of the same is at the TOP of my shopping list. I love the arcadey slickness of the new drift system and the overall pacing of RR6.

If they were bagging on the 360 version then they're in for a nasty surprise, because RR7 is going took and play very similar.

Maybe it'll look similar but its not going to play similar due to the customization meaning we get get rid of those borefest drift mechanics that started in RRT4.

I actually get the folks don't like the exaggerated drift, so no argument there - but won't that be the default? So won't most players be playing the default experience?

I like the crazy drifting in RR don't get me wrong, but its way too easy in its current form. But yah i'm sure it'll be the default setting but with the ability to change the settings I think people will do that also.

exactly, which is not a bad thing because RR6 plays like butter. even if it doesn't end up adding anything new to the driving mechanic, i'd still be happy with the new features that are slated for RR7. in fact, i loved RR6 so much that when i get a PS3, RR7 will most definitely be part of my library.

Hey as long as you acknowledge that the video selected was... less than exciting.... then I'm cool with that explanation.

I think people are simply stressing it as it has become far more rare than anyone anticipated.

The Japanese PS3 concept site has an interview with the producer (?) or RR7:

http://www.playbeyond.jp/

There's no game footage there AFAIK, and it's all in Japanese of course, but it might be useful for some.

someone please translate this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't even bother translate that. I bet he doesnt say anything of interest. Just some hi-def crap.
