Weekly Famitsu news - Ninokuni PS3 (Ghibli)

Sony generally only publish IPs they're directly involved with. They've owned every one of the IPs they've published for Level 5, iirc.
If Level-5 don't do it, maybe Disney will pick it up, they're pretty serious at the moment.

I secretly hoped that Ninokuni would come to PS3 when they mentioned a console version, but I never thought that it WOULD. Holy crap!!!

Too good to be true, if its a ds port then that just doesn't make any sense
It's hard too tell from the scan, but it looks like it's real-time cellshaded as appose to the prerendered backgrounds, so, not a port.

Holy fricken crap!

This is...this is...... wow. Looks absolutely amazing. Please be a Move RPG, the DS verison magic system would fit perfectly with the peripheral and it would. be. awesome!!

PS3 is mine this year. Mark me words, Can't fricken wait!!

On another note, this really does make me wonder if Inazuma Eleven Break and/or Dragon Quest X are still coming to Wii or not....

I heard Nintendo is involved with the development with DQX or so something like that.

Kinda sounds like when we hadn't heard or seen much of anything about DQIX and everybody started talking that it had moved to PSP.

Is this confirmed true? Ninokuni PS3??!!!!111one!eleven

This will truly be a playable Ghibli movie now with the power of the PS3 and Blu Ray technology (tm). Seriously though this is the most excited I've been for an rpg since... hmmm... Chrono Cross? No... no... wait I was pretty hyped for White Knight at its initial unveiling (but that hype tapered off into complete disappointment).

Looks like a ground up game for the PS3. Probably the same story on the DS. They Might have started working on this for the Wii until they where shown the Move. It'll be interesting if they port this later.

Really? So they spent a ton of money to establish Level 5 offices in LA with the specific purpose of taking full distribution and control of the sales of their own games in the west because they don't care about the west? Right.
Oh c'mon you know they could be doing more to appeal in the West. They still have Nintendo, Square, and Sony publishing their games here. I know they are finally starting to establish and publish their own IPs in Japan, but they still rely on larger publishers to bring their games to the West. Have they self-published any games in the West yet? Bottom line: I hope we see this one hit the west regardless of the publisher.

its in the TOC and legit scans are out.

interested in seeing how this game will go now

On the one hand, bad for handhelds. On the other hand, good for people who don't play them. This is something (I bet) that everyone should experience. GLORIOUS! It will be glorious!

They haven't canned the DS one as far as we know.

Move does seem to be more appropriate for this, IMO.

I wonder why Nintendo don't step in to get this game in it's console, they have pretty olse relationship with Level5, at this pace Wii will not survive until end year in Japan.

:lol

Guess I'm getting Ni no kuni on PS3 then!
On another note, it just occurred to me that Disney won't be handling the dub, unlike the Ghibli films. Hopefully that aspect turns out okay.

Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!! Ninokuni on PS3??? I wasn't expecting this at all. Seriously!! I know it was announced for DS and another platform from the beginning, but PS3? But then, it makes total sense. The cutscenes on DS looked really bad, lots of compression, small resolution, small screen even!! It wouldn't be worth it asking Ghibli to make all the cutscenes for the game if they end up with that quality. I think I'm gonna play the DS demo a couple times today to celebrate the announcement :D :D :D :D
Seriously, this is the kind of news that deserves teasing on magazines and online countdowns!!! Now all the shit we had before E3 !!! Nothing good came out of all the E3 teasings :(

A lot of developers don't publish their own games here. That doesn't mean they don't look at the US as an important market. It may simply be out of the their reach to publish their own games here atm.

Ninokuni PS3 is a stunning announcement. A Studio Ghibli game running in HD on a PS3 is an animation buff's wet dream for the visuals alone. I hope Move support is in and I hope we get a release date soon. Go go Level-5!

I just saw the scans. Most pictures are animated cutscenes from ghibli, but the 2 screens on the center-right say game image in the corner, so I believe those 2 only are in-game screenshots.

fuck fuck fuck. :D

So excited. I hope the localization is not over a year.

Maybe they're preparing for the inevitable.
And by that I mean Wii HiFi :P

Versus XIII DETAILS!!!

Game Jouhou has updated with a few additional Versus XIII details from either Famitsu or Dengeki.

Apparently, the included screens show a massive wilderness scene. Also included is a battle scene that's set in a city modeled after Shinjuku, and a scene showing a gasoline stand.

Says Nomura about the game's world, "If you try to go all the way to the end, it's truly far."

Also from the Nomura interview:

The game's cloud effects use real physics calculations
The world is an open field, and you can go everywhere except for the mountains
The battles are seamless
The game's encounter system is both random and symbol-based (meaning you can see enemies in advance). Hmm... what could this mean?
The game's world is mostly seamless, although there are some load points when you switch between the massive areas.
You can destroy objects that you find on the road.
The quality of the combat scenes is so high that people will not be able to believe it when they first see it.
The staff is excited about making the game.
Nomura also confirms that the screens in the magazine are all realtime, captured off the PlayStation 3. Of course, this won't mean much until we can actually see the screens...

Best Famitsu update ever.

Ninokuni on DS looks good... visually.

I have no faith in Level 5 though.
The battle trailer for the DS version was underwhelming. I still don't get why this game has turn-based battles, or battles at all.

1. Bu-Bu-But Inazuma 11!

2. I fully expect this to disappoint me as much as Professor Layton did, but the experience will still be magical. I'm not even sure that Ghibli's my favorite Japanese animation studio (they certainly don't match my favorite Japanese art animators), but sometimes sparkle over substance is acceptable.

This is awesome news! I've been annoyed at Ninokuni taking so long to come out, but HD Ghibli means all is forgiven. Even if Level-5 doesn't self-publish it in the US, I'll still be able to import. Yay!
