Weekly Famitsu news - Ninokuni PS3 (Ghibli)

Wow, this is really huge and really surprising, I thought the other Ninokuni game was for Mobile or for Wii at the very best. I am really glad it turned out that way, it will be worth the price only to watch the HD animation from Ghibli. Great news!

I haven't been excited for a Famitsu since NMH PS360 and Star Ocean 4 PS3 combined. :D

Oh man, I saw the scan of Ninokuni for PS3, it´s looks stunning and exactly as I imagined, with a great use of cel-shading. One the greatest surprises this year by far.

Holy shit Ninokuni looks amazing. Might even have better cel shading than Naruto UNS. Now all we need is a cyberpunk style using this engine.

Is that the new one that looks like anime?

Ninokuni was never confirmed for the Wii though. L5 have a Wii game that's obviously Break. SE are also putting DQ Monster Victory Road on Wii too.

I'm aware. I was thinking more along the lines of why would Level 5 release this for PS3 instead of Wii if other big hitters like DQX and IEB were going to Wii.... mind boggling to me (unless they know something we don't).

But I'm happy with their decision.... as long as it uses Move and comes stateside. :D

Perhaps Level-5 was happy with White Knight Chronicle's success.

We'll know more this weekend at the L5 conference

Read this on another board and apparently has more to do with Ghibli's fear of piracy. So far PS3 is the only system with no exploitable piracy loophole. Not sure if it's true or not.

So the DS version is canceled in favor of this? :lol

Looks amazing. This better get localized in english!

Awesome news, just saw the scans. Any idea that the DS version would be completely cancelled, or would it be a dual release?

We don't know yet if it's been cancelled or if the game is now multiplatform.

Though I suppose we'll know by the end of the week.

Level 5 really needs to talk more about those PSP games they revealed a while back though.

Great looking game, that Ghibli one, shame about the miserable developer.

Versus sounds suprisingly solid, but in a world where even the Xeno series can be turned into a quest n' loot, I am a little less shocked by good twists of fate lately. Here's hoping, because I always like a good ARPG.

No, there was always two games based on this, one for DS and a mysterious second one we knew nothing about until today.

I'm pretty sure this is getting localized. Level 5 just opened their NA office, EU office in 2011.

Maybe what they know is that a new Nintendo home console will be announced next year.

I really hope Level 5 knows what it's doing in terms of localization. Send this game to Alexader O. Smith!

Wow, this could be the best looking game ever for me.

Wow, unexpected to say the least!

I wonder if this is going to sour their relations with Nintendo in any way since having the original game on the DS always seemed like quite the coup for Nintendo!

Visuals are very good. Best anime-style graphics I've ever seen.

By the way, why did people think this was going to be a Wii game in the first place?

I always secretly hoped it'd be PS3, but Wii made more sense, closer to DS assets quality wise, a Nintendo platform, the industry leader, and the Wiimote for doing the magic spells, seemed obvious.

Simple. Given that the primary gameplay mechanic has you drawing spells, the Wiimote lended itself perfectly to the concept. Add in the fact that it's also coming to the DS (and how the two consoles can connect to each other + sharing a common audience) and the Wii suddenly looks like the natural choice.

was ieb confirmed for wii at all?havn't heard from the game for 2 (?) years

It's not confirmed for any console, for all we know it might go to PS3. What we do know is that L5 said they are developing games for both Wii and PS3, we now know Ninokuni is a PS3 game, so IE should be Wii, or at the very least Wii and PS3.

How big do people think this game will be? >500k?

In Japan? Presuming the DS version still exists, and will sell far better, I think it could do possibly a million over time. From what I've read, it's a DQ clone, which means it's approachable there, and everyone has been wanting a Studio Ghibli game for years.

Holy shit. No need to buy Famitsu in a year at least guys, its impossible they can have a better scoop than this :lol

Looks so great its unbelievable. I hope we hear some definitive dates in the Level-5 conference mentioned before in this thread, not just for Ninokuni but crapload of other Level-5 games (and in that case, only in that case, you can also announce a bunch of new ones Level-5). Was a bit disappointed Time Travelers didn't show up in E3....this made up for it 10 times.

Tomorrow's press conference is ONLY for Ninokuni. It is not the Level 5 Vision event.
