Been listening to Thrice's whole catalog. I'm suddenly sad they went on hiatus. Then again, they're like my age, so they'll probably be back in a few years.
They'll never make anything as good as Illusion of Safety ever again and that saddens me.

Artist in The Ambulance had too many songs that were too alike and for fuck's sake they were all in the same key practically. I liked Vheissu though and then everything after that... meh.

I'm trying to do split screen videos where I play guitar, bass, piano and drums. I'm trying to focus on NES songs. So I'm listening to a lot of minibosses, the advantage, vomitron and the like. I'm still fixing my amps and instruments(and for the drums I'll be using rock band's drums plugged to a PC and straight into midi or something like that) so I don't think I'll be starting anytime soon. Still, (on topic)I'm rocking NES songs by real bands.

fucking iPhone dickpics
godspeed's latest
selected ambient 85-92 (aphex revisit, love)
miguel might be okay, it makes me feel older and like music less
tame impala's newest grew on me
old mercury rev hit at the wrong time in the right season

Listening to lots of new and new-to-me music this last couple of weeks.

Death Grips - NOLOVEDEEPWEB
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - something unintelligable with exclaimation marks
Titus Andronicus - Local Business
Tegan and Sara - The Con
Giant Drag - Hearts and Unicorns
Birds and the Beacon - EP

All good stuff.

I'm disappointed in myself that I waited so long to hear Tame Impala. It's so exciting and fresh ,yet vintage at the same time. Except for the beginning of the album, "Be Above It". That one just does not fit the album, to me, or at least the start of it doesn't.

I kinda like the opener.

There's something about the band overall tho that isn't 100% hitting me. Let me go listen to them again.

Another righteous jam this musical oscar season (wouldn't you describe it as such? past few weeks of releases has been obscenely godlike) is Benjie Gibbard and Aimee Mann breaking your god damned heart:

I need to pick up the new Tame Impala. For now though this is what I've been listeneing to mostly:

Devin Townsend Project - Epic Cloud

Grizzly Bear - Shields

Genesis - Foxtrot

The TRST album is one of my favourites from earlier in the year. I realised when going through my iTunes just how many excellent early-2012 albums I'd completely forgotten.

Also, I really like the opening track of the new Tame Impala, sue me!

Really enjoying this despite the mixed reviews. I've always liked the airy/electronic side of Ellie the best.

Probably AOTY at this point, there's some shit in it but jesus christ that opening block is pure gold.

Money Clothes Hoes is too damn good. I like it overall but it's kind of got the soulessness of a Ross mixtape, good beats and decent lyrics but nothing that really pops out at you.

Sun City Girls - Wah (2002)
333.jpg

Various - Darker Than Blue (Crucial Reggae)

Rangda - Formerly Extinct (Richard Bishop, Chris Corsano, Ben Chasny) (2012)

The new Godspeed sounds great, refreshing and all that. But you have to wonder how soon they might wear out their welcome if they do another couple full lengths and releases. It will be exciting to see what they do next.

Man, the new Godspeed is good and different. It sort of reminds of Portishead - Third in that it's distinctly GBYE without feeling like a rehash of their sound. There's a new urgency in this record and I fucking love it.

Yeah, it's a monster. It would have been so easy for them to just crap out Yanqui Part Two or something but this album feels like it bled out of them without their permission. Urgency is a good word for it.

I like their later records but they felt same-y in a lot of their ideas where this has an aura of freshness. Now if The Dismemberment Plan can achieve similar results than I'll be officially ecstatic for this late-90s revival :D

Damn, this album is so good. Easily one of my favorites this year, along with Perfume Genius' Put Your Back N 2 It.

Only thing I don't like about this album is how he always does random "WHA--"s throughout it.

Adorn is a godlike song, the whole album reminds me of 90s RnB.

I recently purchased BT's Morceau Subrosa.

It's just a 46-minute track of ambient sound with almost no musical format. It feels like being in space, traveling through the stars. It's inspiring and daunting. Someone uploaded it on Youtube here, but if anyone likes it I'd recommend purchasing it to support it.

I'll have to fire it up along with Space Engine sometime (preferably when drunk).

This is pretty good. Thanks!

Jay-Z's Live in Brooklyn EP is short (8 tracks), covers his recent hits. Empire State of Mind starts things off, and Young Forever with Beyonce finish it, which I think works out just fine. I'm hoping Beyonce does a full cover of Forever Young, since I loved how she sung the chorus. There's a bit where Beyonce said a line from Jay-Z's verse, which made him crack up a little, which I thought was pretty funny. I'd link the song, but I'm having trouble finding the track on YouTube.

The Black Keys' Tour Rehearsal Tapes is pretty self-explanatory: live performance without a crowd for rehearsal. 6 tracks, so it's also pretty short. It's pretty standard fare, and if I heard it in passing, I'd probably think it was the studio versions. I'm a fan of The Black Keys and live albums, so I figured I'd pick it up since it's 1 + 1.

Born to Die by Lana Del Rey is still on my playlist. Initially, I didn't like half of the songs in the album, but they grew on me eventually.

Ugh guys...

I don't get Lonerism. I enjoyed the last Tame Impala album but this album feels so middling right now.

Jessie Ware- Devotion
I know I am a bit late, but damn this is a seriously good pop album. Maybe 2 songs I don't enjoy that much; 110% and Sweet Talk are soo good.

Shout out to Cosmic Bus, I finally got around to listening to The Return of Love by Woolfy vs Projections. Great album! Love it. Hard to pick a favourite track, but I think it might be "Nina". So smooth.

Can't be arsed to do a detailed writeup this time.

Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes
I think it's my favorite of his. Calm, and cool.
Phantasm (feat. Laura Darlington)

Chick Corea & Hiromi Uehara - Duet
Two amazing jazz pianists doing what they best do.
Concierto de Aranjuez / Spain

Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert
Best jazz improvisation ever? If it isn't it comes close.
Part 1

Tomasz Stanko - Dark Eyes
Some great modern jazz.
Terminal 7

Tom Waits - Small Change
Pre-Swordfishtrombones Waits at his best.
Invitation to the Blues

Miles Davis - Ascenseur Pour l'Échafaud
Amazing soundtrack, pretty much perfect jazz noir.
Générique

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
I didn't like this too much when it first came out but it's definitely a grower. One of my favorite of hers now.
The Words that Maketh Murder

Patti Smith - Horses
One of my favorite albums of all time.
Land

Sonic Youth - A Thousand Leaves
A perfect autumn album, warm guitars, mellow sound and all.
Hits of Sunshine

어어부밴드 (UhUhBoo Project) - 손익분기점(Break-Even Point)
Korean Beefheart/Tom Waits, basically. Pretty awesome.
