Titus Andronicus- Local Business

I like it but don't love it. Growing on me with each listen though. This got me to revisit The Monitor though.

Yup, still a 10/10. Classic fucking album.

Cloud Nothings- Attack On Memory

Really really like this. Thanks to JimmyStav for the recommendation. Been flipping between this and The Monitor all morning. \m/

I like My Bloody Valen......I mean, Tamaryn's Tender New Signs. I don't know if it's because it's good or because of nostalgia. Songs like "Heavenly Bodies" have great, haunting melodies that are complimented so well by the distortion(much like MBV). There are a few uninteresting tracks, but I'm still enjoying it.

Bat For Lashes' The Haunted Man is pretty mediocre in my opinion. She is a bit of a diamond in the rough. Songs like "Oh Yeah", "Laura", and another one that's name isn't coming to me at the moment are good ,but those are the only ones that really stand out. They are melodic and catchy, yet still creative and artsy sounding, while the rest feel empty. Unfortunately though, they are right next to each other. That one song is a complete rip off of Gotye, by the way.

First new Pinback album in 5 years. Pretty standard Pinback fare, TBH. I'm perfectly happy with it so far, but they aren't going to blow up with this one or anything.

The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free
Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner
Beck - Sea Change

Missed this mix from last year and it has been on heavy repeat ever since I got it, as well as some of his free mixes and they are all insanely good. Ben is not human.

I cannot stay out of the goddamned record store this month.

The best song out of that entire stack is Ben Gibbard's Teardrop Windows. I normally dislike whiney Ben and his Death Cab schtick, but this song is great.

right now.

What are the best lists out there for good music from 2012? I'm desperate for new music and I'm out of the loop. Any genre but metal, boring low-fi indie rock and 'club music'.

Ten Thousand Years Won't Save Your Life

My AOTY by a mile. I think at this point, only Godspeed You! Black Emperor can overtake it, but I have to give their new album a proper listen before I decide. It's been a post-rock kinda year for me, I guess, which is weird because these two bands and Sigur Ros are the only post-rock bands I listen to consistently and all three have released new albums this year.

I used to like Sigur Ros more than Hammock, but Departure Songs blows Valtari out of the water.

Bought this album yesterday too. Ha

I love it. Big fan of Hammock ever since I heard Mono No Aware a couple years ago.

Andy Stott - Luxury Problems

After putting out two of my favorite releases last year, and showing off a fantastic single earlier in the month, I was beyond hyped for this album. Here Stott employs vocals, and it works extremely well when he chops them up--splashing them randomly into the muddled, thumping bass tracks. He creates something achingly beautiful, soundtracking a lovely voice with cold, mechanical beats. Unfortunately, other tracks contain straight hymns and melodies, in which the dame's voice hasn't been altered at all. Everything sounds so dissonant on these songs; the melodies simply don't work with such dark instrumentals. There's a lot of great moments on this LP, and it's definitely a good-great album (I'd say 4/5 range), but I was expecting perfection after last year's releases. Alas. Hopefully it grows on me.

The Gaslamp Killer - Breakthrough - Is it weird that I like this more than the new Flying Lotus album? Seriously though...this shit is killer, and I love the Killian Eng cover art.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Piñata

I wasn't familiar with the band before so this album kinda came out of nowhere for me, but I think I may be in love with it.

I've been listening to some older music this month a lot. Weird to think that my favorite album (Demon Days) came out eight years ago now. It was actually the first CD that I ever got! Anyways....

Just came out today. Discovered this these dudes recently and instantly fell in love. I can't really compare it to any other bands I know, so I guess the best thing is to give their singles a whirl. It's kinda like spoken poetry with a melo sound over it.

"Dear G-d"
"The Hardest Part..."

Indeed. New Prins Thomas this month as well. Couple that with Inspector Norse(Todd Terje) and it's been a great year for Norwegian space disco.
I will have to check those others out. I'm an extreme noob when it comes to anything electronic/dance/disco/techno/whatever. I absolutely love this style, though. Space disco is the perfect descriptor.
