How many of those do you go through? Seems expensive and really heavy, so maybe it's only one or two drinks? (that chocolate stout is amazing though).

No more expensive than any other on tap. Alcohol content is also not that much heavier than of others either. It is very flavor heavy though, yes.

I usually just get one but I never really two of the same drink on the same night.

I've been on a Rye Old Fashioned kick lately. There are about a million variations on the drink, so it really depends on the bar/bartender.

Also, a Manhattan with top-shelf Bourbon is always a good choice.

You gotta read the bar. If its some shithole, I'll get the best bottled beer they have. A nice place with killer cocktails, go for a cocktail. A microbrewery or bar that specializes in local brews, order something from the tap.
