What games did you actually finish this year?

I don't personally support the concept of a backlog -- I believe games serve me better when regarded as a collection to be enjoyed based on my mood, whim, and free time to dedicate to the hobby. That said...

I was looking over my gaming habits this year, and I've come to the stark conclusion that I've "finished" one game this year: up to the current content of Stormblood. I've come close to finishing a few other single player titles, but I usually get busy or lose interest.

Howzabout you, Gaf?

Persona 5
Gravity Rush 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
Mario Odyssey
Hellblade
Evil Within 2
Uncharted Lost Legacy
Kingdom Hearts 2.8
Horizon Zero Dawn (I personally didn't enjoy it at all)

Evil Carrot

Has anyone seen Cloud?
Not as many as I would have liked, due to a transition in life I only had access to my Switch for the bulk of the year, so I basically beat everything of note on that plus some indie stuff. I have my PS4 back though and will be digging around the 2017 lineup soon, seems I missed a lot as well.

I like to finish the game once I started and people told me the story gets much better but it never did for me.

The dreaded “it’s going to get better anytime” mentality. I’ve done that before with a few games and movies only to be disappointed when the credits rolled.

Now if something isn’t clicking after I’ve given it some solid time I just move on.

I thought I only completed one game this year, but looking back it wasn't too bad.

Costume Quest 2
Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Tomb Raider (2013)
Far Cry 3
Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Final Fight (from Final Fight: Double Impact)
Shadows of the Damned

Minecraft would be on the list if it weren't for that damn Ender Dragon. I also spent the last 2 weeks finally playing Valkyria Chronicles after buying it like in 2009. The backlog must die. 24 to go.

I like how you can't just finish a game these days. You either have to achieve in getting all the trophies/achievements, playing in a timely fashion, playing it in aggressive way, playing it in a passive way, playing through all the different endings, playing it on every difficulty.

BOTW
Pikmin 2
Mario 3D World

Honestly, the only one I'm positive was this year is BOTW. Mario and Pikmin may have been late 2016.

Uncharted 4
Zelda: BotW
Titanfall 2
SnipperClippers
Golf Story
South Park: Fractured but whole
Mario Odyssey
Mario x Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

The least amount of games I’ve played/beaten in a long time. Being a new dad makes finding time to game harder than I expected.

Don't think I finished any o.0 Didn't game between Jan and May. Then summer was XCOM 2 (got near the end of the game but then went into 'free roam' mode), NMS (free roam mode from the start), and then Darkest Dungeon (same as XCOM 2). Other than that, it was mostly GTA V and GTA Online free roam, MGS V free roam, and Ghost Recon Wildlands (got about halfway through the objectives, and ended up just going HUD-less and randomly free roaming). So, guess I got close with GRW and XCOM2 but I just didn't really care ... That said, I still game hundreds of hours, was just not very into SP stories this year and more into building my own SP stories, so to speak.

Mostly just SP free roam in 2017 for me -- was all about 'survive-build-prosper' free roam. From MGS V Diamond Dogs and GTA V bikers and CEO businesses, to XCOM and Ghost Recon soldiers, to my Darkest Dungeon estate mercenaries and my NMS farming and mining base.

Actually, I did forget one... I guess because it's a remaster. But I did finish FF XII Zodiac Age. Just since it's basically my Goat game, I've already beat more than a half dozen times. And was kinda fast/easy cuz the TZA license changes kinda make the game easy. Genuinely forgot but there's one at least haha.

The only game to actively keep my attention was Persona 5, which was a mixture of being blueballed since 2014 and it being one of my favorite series. I'm sure there are other games that I have finished, but it was definitely the one where the idea of 'finishing' felt like a real accomplishment/satisfaction, not just for completion sake.

Resident Evil 7
Zelda Breath of the Wild(my Goty)
The Evil Within 2
Mario Odyssey

Played a few hours but didn't finish cause i wasn't enjoying them enough:
Mass Effect Andromeda
Nier Automata
Walfenstein 2
Splatoon 2 campaign

Played lot of hours in multiplayer:
Rocket League
PUBG
Rainbow Six Siege
FIFA 18

33 games this year: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=227459727&postcount=102

Highlights were interesting (mostly backlog stuff):

The Witness - Unbelievable, the moment when you realise the landscape itself is a puzzle.
Mini Metro - Surprisingly relaxing and the kinda game where you always play one more go.
Hue - Last game completed this year from Xbox Game Pass, beautiful.
10 Second Ninja - If you're a fan of Super Meat Boy, you'll love this. I bought the OST online too.

Honourable mentions:

Dear Esther - Gone Home was good but I didn't play it properly. This I did and I love the walking sim now.
Halo: MCC - Screw the haters.

Biggest letdown:

Lumo - thankfully I didn't pay for this, but tried it with Game Pass. It always looked amazing, but the controls were terrible and the platforming extremely bad.

I'm hoping to play and beat even more games this year.

Super Mario Odyssey (at least the story)
Life is Strange
Horizon Zero Dawn
CoD WW2
Skyrim (for the 7th or 8th time)
Watch Dogs 2

I’ve also put hundreds of hours into “endless” games like FIFA, NBA 2K, Stardew Valley, Cities Skylines and CoD Multiplayer.

There probably are more that I simply can’t think of right now, but off the top of my head, those are the ones.

I think about the only ones I can clearly tick off are Watchdogs 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, Telltales Game of Thrones & INSIDE. Otherwise, it's principally been a lot of delving into titles as well as large amounts of CK2, which is neverending. Hoping to conclude a lot more titles this year as I'm down for the 52 games challenge

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/52-games-1-year-2018.1460268/

Though I'm concentrating on getting those big RPGs loitering in my backlog ticked off. The smaller games can wait until the heavy lifting is done.

Just two games in the whole year, has to be my all time low ever since I turned ten. I've been very aware that there seem to be less and less new games I'm interested in evey year, but this is getting alarming.

Persona 5
Tales from the borderlands
The evil within 2

In no order whatsoever.

Resident Evil VII
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
Final Fantasy XV
Persona 5
NieR Automata
Yakuza 0
Yakuza Kiwami
TLoZ: Breath of the Wild
Sonic Mania
Sonic Colours
Sonic Forces
Doom (2016)
Alien: Isolation
Borderlands The Pre-Sequel
Batman: Arkham Knight

I think 2018 for me will be more retro focused (SNES, PS1, Dreamcast etc.), I've pretty much had my fill of modern gaming for now.

Not many. I played RB6 most of the year. With The Show sprinkled in, and now have moved onto BF2.

I did complete My Name is Mayo. Admire me Gaf!

The past couple of years I haven't finished no where near as many games as I'd like (about 4 years ago I somehow managed to beat over 80 games in a year and since then I've been finishing fewer and fewer games each year) and this past year kinda continued that trend as you'll see below. Hopefully this year I'll be able to finished more games than I did last year as there are a handful of games I had started in previous years (like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Y's Origin, Wolfenstien 2: The New Colossus) that I haven't gotten around to finishing.

RE 7
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Final Fantasy XV
Uncharted 4
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Yakuza Kiwami
The Evil Within 2
Sundered
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune Remastered (part of The Nathan Drake Collection)
A King's Tale: FF XV

Note: I am not including games that have a very light story mode or have a very heavy/hefty Multiplayer component like CoD, Battlefield 1, Friday the 13th, Street Fighter V,etc. as you can't really "finish" them
