it was such an insular reference that i couldn't help but laugh

For 10+ years now people have been taking an okay song from an okay movie from 1996 and mashing it up with any song they feel like, and it's still going on. Someone even made a parody JRPG off of the idea. The next time you hear a song that's good and popular in internet circles, someone, somewhere will put Quad City DJs into it. It's such an strange thing that random people with audio editing software have kept going for so long. I think it's one of the weirdest yet coolest things to come out of the Internet.
