What one year of Playstation Plus looks like.

Makes me think GameTap was really ahead of its time.

I got a year of EU+ for half price, and if the quality remains good I'll probably get another year when it's on offer.

I do think Sony has been doing a fairly bad job of communicating the benefits of plus, you know the community is doing most of the heavy lifting on it with threads like this. All they do is blog posts and videos. It would be nice to see a proper archive for both regions.

Eh, I don't know about PS+. I've owned almost every single game they've offered for free, or else been uninterested. The discounts are cool, but never amount to enough in any single month to get me to sign up. I also have serious issues with the way that you "own" the free games via PS+. I know many would say its no different than any digital service (you're just renting the games) but I find the idea of not being able to play my PS+ free titles in the future or offline unsettling.

Myself personally I never went for Plus. I was satisfied with the basic service as is and have pretty much stayed that way since launch. It's just when companies do something like this it feels to me as if it's there way of saying, "Hey, everything is as good as its going to be so we'll throw in some extras and call it a night". I'd rather they draw people in by constantly improving the service itself and upgrading and/or integrating new concepts and ideas to make it more than simply competitive with something like Live for example.

So you think if Sony improved their online service they should hide the better version and the best features behind the Plus paywall? I don't understand the reasoning.

but I find the idea of not being able to play my PS+ free titles in the future or offline unsettling.

You can play them offline.

It's a good list, and honestly if I knew someone who had just bought a PS3 I'd gift him a one year subscription, but as for myself I hesitate to buy into a service when I don't know for how long I'll be able to download the games on that service with PS4 right around the corner. Plus I never really liked renting games, I usually read and know enough about them that I almost never regret a purchase, and then get the advantage of being able to keep it indefinitely as a disc.

Most of the times I get games I already own or don't care. But a lot of times I get games I actually want to play. Add discounts into the mix and the service has payed off for me.

PS+ shines a lot when given to inlaws who don't buy games very often.

But isn't that what they are already doing with Plus in the first place? I'm saying if they are going to be competitive and convince more people to pay for Plus I would hope they would focus on the service itself rather than simply attention grabbers like hey come get your free copy of Chronovault.

I'm with you OP. If MS doesn't change their thinking on Live Gold, I'll have no real reason to continue with them into next gen. PS+ is killing it right now.

Lemme ask you folks, here's an issue I have. Were I to sign up for PS+ right now, would I gain access to past benefits or only those going forward?

PlayStation Plus.

Pros: Discounts for games and keep them permanent, "rental" of games at no extra cost provided you are an active subscriber

Cons: If you are in North America, Grace Chen Time.
Oh come on just chek the store on wednesday or thursday lol

But the whole point of Plus is the free games, early access to demos and awesome discounts. I don't understand how that is wrong.

Only to those that are still going. Free games are retired after some time (some after weeks, others after months) and discounts are always for limited time.

Only going forward. You can only pick up PS+ freebies while subscribed. That's kind of the hook: the longer you stay subscribed, the bigger your pile grows.

Is it unsettling that you don't get to watch your Netflix streaming movies when you cancel your Netflix subscription? It's the same principle.
I can only understand the hesitation when it comes to people who have gym memberships and never go, and have rentals but never watch them and end up with late fees. It's a use it or lose it thing, doesn't suit everyone but the terms are fair however you cut it.

Why is Sleeping Dogs on that Reddit list? I thought that was a UK Plus only freebie? Otherwise seems like a legit list for NA Plus

Year subscription and I haven't switched my PS3 on in ages. I think it's better if I don't know what I've missed out on. Dammit.

I thought the main pulls, or at least I saw these as being things that interested me when it first came out, were things like cloud storage and a streamlined updating feature. Stuff like that I find appealing. Otherwise I only see it as a rental service no different than Gamefly. As for as discounts go how can making someone pay money per month to save a possible percentage on a purchase work for your business when PC sales on services like Steam, GoG, and Greenman can offer enormous discounts with no required memberships in the first place. I would wager they see more in sales on those platforms than either the Live marketplace or the Sony store simply due to the absence of an entry barrier like a paid membership.

PS plus you are renting games, sure even though it's different and better in the way it does it ( otehr renting ways include you to give back the product once you used it, here you have to for ever and IT IS YOURS, as long as you have PS plus)

Look at it this way, it is either SONY do what they currently are doing, or they don't do it at all and we don't get free games to play.

But how does that compare to renting the ability to play games you paid money for ( whether it be full price or not) ?

Yea, PS plus is awesome.

Sure you can look at that list and go, meh not many games I want, but I think that is missing the entire point.

The best thing about this is that you get to, for free and for as long as you are subscribed, play games that you may not have paid money for anyway and the chances are very high that you may end up enjoying quite a few of these games that you would have straight up ignored and not experienced if not for PS plus.

That is the beauty of this, you get to experience games that you may not have cared about and for all you know, it could be that next game you are craving but just didn't know it.
Happened to be a few times already, games I never cared about but thanks to PS plus I would buy any sequels and such.

Experiment, try something new and give other games a go, might as well since they are free.

No, only the titles you download to your account while they are available are playable.

So if you were an EU customer, you wouldn't be able to get Batman: AC anymore, but if you joined and downloaded Hitman Absolution now, you can play it as long as you're a subscriber.

Protip: You can unlock everything that's free in a given month, but don't download it. It'll stay in your download list to play later.

But that means since I didn't sign up day 1, I'll never get the full value of the service.

Not really. If you signed up a year ago, you have a pretty healthy backlog of games to choose from.

If you sign up today, you will accumulate a lot of games within the span of a year

That is being competitive. Free games and discounts. Emphasis on the discounts. What does Xbox Live have? Voice mails, cross game chat (done on Vita), Game invitation (some PS3 games have that), and online behind a paywall.

I bet my ass that PS4 will have those and PS+ and more since it's already announced. Not like Sony is going to remain static. They got caught with their pants down with the PS3, it's not going to happen this time around.

Eh. I'm not getting your argument at all.

To get the full value of the service from day 1, you'd have had to subscribed from day 1 and therefore paid more than you would have if you subscribed today. Subscribing now means youll get all the content going forward.

Well, not quite. I looked over the list, I already owned every single thing on it (that I would be interested in), often times on other platforms. All I would have gotten is discounts, and the only digital games I've bought off of PSN all year are Deadly Premonition, Way of the Samurai 4 and Tokyo Jungle, as well as as Vita games in P4G, Gravity Rush, Lumines, Soul Sacrifice and Hot Shots Golf.

I doubt the discounts would even have covered the yearly fee.

Ironically, PS+ is most valuable for gamers who aren't day one buyers.

If you're willing to wait a while, you'll often find that the game is discounted or made "free" later on down the line.

I was going to buy Hitman Absolution, but was playing a lot of other games at the time. Next thing I know, it's a featured game on PS+. Sweet deal.

Very impressive list. Never got on the PS+ train (saw it more as a discount service and I don't buy that many games in a year to justify it) and it's too late in the generation to sign up now, but I'll definitely consider it for the PS4.

Plus has conditioned me to never, ever buy a Vita game on release day.

I love it, I personally preferred it a bit more when it wasn't just full games because of how little time I get to game but I can't wait to see how they adapt this for the Playstation 4.

Same here. I love the service and think it's the best thing out today for the consumer, but it really makes me never to want to buy a Vita game. I wonder how much harm it's doing.

PS+ is partially a game rental service. Yes, I lose all those "free" games the moment my subscription expires. The thing is, cloud saves, auto updates, and game discounts across the PS3 and Vita pretty much ensure that I will never cancel that subscription. I save too much money and time with it.

The only bad thing I can think of is when I buy something lately, it goes free on plus a week or two later. I bought a copy of Spec-Ops and a week or two later it went free. Same with The Cave and a few others. The discounts are great.

I think this is the core of my issue. Until PS+ starts doing substantial discounts on games day 1 I can't see myself ever signing up.

I buy very very few games, so PS+ is great for me. Other than my home internet connection, it's the only "monthly" subscription I use. Even at $50 a year it's a steal, but I recently bought the year + 3 free months and a $10 credit for $40 using the random $10 credit they gave out earlier this year. Ridiculous!

Here is a EU list by Redditor IceBreak

I just wanted to reiterate a few things. Sony is struggling a fair bit with the messaging of PS+ but once they get marketing figured out, this is Sony's jewel in the crown. This is their hidden weapon, this is frankly, a supreme service. After a year I still can't believe what I have received.

Word has gotten out (subs have apparently trebled in the past year) but once they are able to simplify it Microsoft should then be scared at its potential. Nonetheless Microsoft could start a similar service anytime but I do hope they jump on it quick before Sony becomes Netflix and MS is just Hulu Plus.

My PS+ backlog is like 5 times bigger than my Steam backlog.

I can imagine PS+ being the greatest thing ever for parents to keep their kids entertained with a new game every week.
