What realistically can Nintendo offer at this E3?

My (relatively optimistic) predictions:

WiiU
Zelda is obviously their big title (and as long as Zelda doesn't disappoint, I won't be disappointed with the show, since my expectations for this E3 are incredibly low). Smash Bros, X, Bayonetta 2, FExSMT, Hyrule Warriors and Yarn Yoshi will get new info/trailers, possibly release dates. Besides that, at the very best there'll be one other major unannounced game (Miyamoto's game) and another HD remake. Oh, and plenty of indie/eShop stuff.

3DS
Majora's Mask 3D will finally be announced. Smash Bros and Pokemon Z will get some attention. Maybe a new 2D Metroid, some eShop stuff and some localisations (e.g. MH4). A money-hatted third party exclusive could possibly be revealed too.

Zelda and Animal Crossing for Wii U, Pokemon Z and Majora's Mask for 3DS.

Maaaaaybe Paper Mario Wii U.

The big news will be that they'll announce a new handheld.

essentially, yes. 2015 will be remaining software. maybe the wii u will get an animal crossing in this time. 3ds should get bravely second and ace attorney 6, among other games from third-party partners. in that time, they'll make their next platforms known and have vague release dates ready for 2016.

if 2016 is a target, then they need to be working on games for those platforms now. that means whatever retro is working on is scheduled for one of those systems.

....Okay, this I can actually see. After this year, very slowed but still existent releases for Wii U/3DS (a decent portion coming from third-parties) while they're still on the market as Nintendo prepares and focuses heavily on their next-generation systems. I think this is the safest and best plan for them going forward.

I think maybe we'll see hw revisions for both platforms

Zelda and Animal Crossing for Wii U, Pokemon Z and Majora's Mask for 3DS.

Maaaaaybe Paper Mario Wii U.

The big news will be that they'll announce a new handheld.

YES! Can't believe I forgot that! It's probably unlikely, but that game alone would make this E3 Nintendo's best since 2010 for me. (As long as it's a proper Paper Mario game and not like the awful Sticker Star)

announce another custom robo.

the last remnant and a sequel is announced for wii u, focusing on the gamepad (ok ok i know, not going to happen)

megaman legends 3 is revived by nintendo for both wii u and 3ds (lol alright i'll be more realistic)

release a pokemon game that is similar to the elder scrolls. create your character, collect pokemon, go on quests and train your pokemon. the main quest is of course become the pokemon master. there should be around 150 pokemon in this one, and each pokemon should have some kind of variations to their looks and behavior. not all ratatas are exact clones, nor do they all act alike. gameplay is pretty much controlling your character, unleash your pokemon, and a button to swap between your character and the pokemon (the a.i. will handle whatever the player isn't controlling, and the player can help define the a.i. through options). it would be a 3rd person brawler/rpg sort of thing. yeah i know....be realistic...but i would definitely play this sort of pokemon game. but i'll move onto more realistic stuff

nintendo shows what they already announced (smash, bayo 2, kart, x)

maybe 2-3 new ips by nintendo themselves, and 1 new ip (if they are lucky) by a 3rd party

some ports from 3rd parties. maybe re6?

a bunch of indie games that can be found on any platform will be shown in e3

cross fingers for smash bros and mario kart to be the system sellers.

ends with a young elf looking creature holding onto something. it brings him hope, and sad music is played. crowd instantly knows what this game is. nintendo revisits time traveling in this edition. the time traveling will take place between other previous editions of the same brand. besides visiting familiar places, there will be a lot of original content. trailer ends, and you can hear the hero of the rainbow dragon utter three grunts of power "hiyaah" "hnghh" "ahhh", excusing him from the princess of twilight and her court, as he goes on another epic journey. crowd goes wild, and everyone will say nintendo is saved

Zelda. Then NOTHING MORE ABOUT IT until next E3.

When's the last time they did something like this? It isn't going to be like stuff from last January's Nintendo Direct that was shown extremely early in development. Zelda will be far enough along to have gameplay shown, so you'll definitely see it, likely plenty of times before E3 the next year.

Who says Nintendo will even attend E3?

Nintendo have. Repeatedly. They have said that the new Zelda will be shown, as StreetsAhead said they've promised to show the NFC game there and last year they even mentioned being there.

The question is, why do you think they wouldn't? Just because the Wii U isn't selling well is no reason for them to suddenly stop doing what they have always done. If anything, it's the opposite. I firmly believe, and with the spacing of things on the Nintendo Directs, that Nintendo is saving their entire July - December line-up for reveal at E3 2014.

By, on or around E3 I can see Nintendo coming with this:

3DS
- OS update/refresh
- SSB hands on and release date
- More F2P (like SubWars)
- Long list of 3rd party games
- "New" Nintendo IP
- Price drop/Bundle/mild redesign (XL with no 3D or more built-in storage & SD Slot removed)

WiiU
- OS update, eShop Revamp
- SSB hands on and release date
- X details and date
- Bayonetta 2 final version hands on, release date and full details
- Yoshi Story game gets detailed and dated
- A handful of new VC games
- F2P Game (SubWarsU? or StarfoxU? Free unlimited 6v6 deathmatch & $20 campaign)
- ZeldaU announcment and no date
- Hyrule Heroes will be dated
- Announcement of Miyamoto's new ip
- Bundles announced (MK probably)
- One major new game announced (probably 3rd party but Nintendo publishing) 2015 date

And If the QOL thing really does have to do with games we will get some update. So nothing too crazy but a whole heap of good stuff that is suppose to come in the next 9-12 months to spotlight. Would love to start getting hints about the 3ds 'successor' but that might be more of an E3 2015 thing.

Wii U

Smash bros. 4 Trailer
Mario Kart 8 wii u bundle
Legend of Zelda Wii U trailer and possibly live demo
Bayonetta 2 trailer possible release date
X trailer
Hyrule warrior's trailer + name reveal and release date
Sonic Boom trailer
Indie Games Slideshow trailer
NFC wii u game

maybe a few surprises

Animal Crossing U
Paper Mario U
Another collaboration title
Yarn Yoshi
Shin Megami Tensai X Fire Emblem
CG Metroid teaser ending with the retro studios logo

Honestly I would prefer that they focus on the 3DS. All teams.

I really like the Wii U, but it's a lost cause. The only problem is that if Nintendo went full throttle on the handheld sector that no one could ever, in their wildest dreams, stand even the slightest chance of competing in the dedicated portable gaming market.

I own a Vita and like it, but it would be even more dead than it is now.

To be honest I'm expecting the new Zelda to look worse than the tech demo, I thought Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess were good games but they weren't the level of Ocarina. With Nintendo being reserved with their latest hardware it seems they've become less ambitious in game production.

I do think that nintendo will show
1. their new health product.
2. Zelda
3. Yoshi Yarn
4. Fire embled vs...
5. NO metroid :(
6. Retro will show new ip -> FPS
7. Suprise first mario galaxy 3 trailer

Done.

Steel Diver: Sub Wars was developed jointly by Nintendo EAD Group 5 and Vitei. I don't find it hard to imagine that only one of these studios still work on the project (probably Vitei, as the Blue Shark is front and center on their website homepage, Steel Diver is such a signature IP for them) making more content such as additional shop subs (I hope). This would open up the other dev team to work on something new, which would almost certainly be a Nintendo project regardless of which of the two studios does it. Whether it could even be mentioned at E3 is another question entirely, since Steel Diver: Sub Wars first got, insignificantly might I add, mentioned some six or nine months before its first trailer and its release 30 minutes later.

The real question is what Nintendo's plans for the 3DS are. Their announced software plans for it are incredibly weak. They need to do something. It's still going to be some time before they can get a successor out.

The WiiU is what it is, I wouldn't expect Nintendo to do much more than go through the motions and avoid sinking more money into it.

A Pokémon MMORPG is never going to happen in a million years for the following reason;

-It will not save the Wii U sales

-It will not work since Pokémon is turn based, which means the game will have to be heavily changed just to make it work.

-Pokémon is aimed at kids

-Japan don't play MMORPG especially one on a console.

For that matter a main series Pokémon game for the home console isn't happening either, as Pokémon is and will always be a handheld series.

It'd be dumb because it'd take years of expensive development and subscription MMOs are archaic at this point. If they wanted to go that route, it'd make more sense to make a F2P Pokemon game and put it on everything, including mobile. That'd actually make money.

I dont see a reason for them to do anything but a Direct?

Signs are pointing to that's what they are doing at most, small venue PC if not
They've already said that they will be in LA at E3.

Thankfully, the idea of F2P, paid DLC and forcing kids to pay beyond the initial purchase of the game is fully against the philosophies set by Game Freak and the director of Pokémon. So it'll never happen.

It will probably be an even smaller ND than last year, hosted from Nintendo HQs basement.

What signs? There is absolutely nothing to indicate that other than the belief that, because the Wii U is not doing well, Nintendo is collapsing, despite the fact they are expanding.

Something to note, for those of you anticipating a WiiU F2P game: at least for PC F2P games, a large userbase, even larger than for subscription-based or packaged games, is considered to be a bare essential to making a viable F2P game, because most F2P strategies rely on, at best, 20% of the user base spending any money at all on the game. 3DS has a notably large userbase (Pokémon for the win), but WiiU does not.

Now, it's absolutely possible that Nintendo may accept a loss on a F2P game; after all, unlike most F2P games, Steel Diver: Sub Wars, for example, has absolutely now way for the user to spend more than a certain amount of money on it ($15 currently). In fact, Nintendo's strategy might not even require a large userbase like most in order to make a profit, depending on how their current F2P games do, in which case a WiiU F2P game would be downright likely!

Still, conventional wisdom within the PC F2P market dictates the necessity of a large userbase, which the WiiU unfortunately (perhaps even confusingly, given the quality of the system's games) does not currently have.

I'd like to see them showcasing all the already announced Wii U games:

Mario Kart 8
Smash Bros
Zelda Musou
Bayonetta 2
Project X
Yoshi Yarn
Fire Emblem x SMT

Confirming aso the new

Zelda U

and adding a couple of internal games and a couple of third party partnerships (à la Sonic Boom, something like Devil's Third publishing, Lego Zelda or something weird like that):

Animal Crossing U
Pokken NFC edition

plus some eshop games like

Snes remix
Pokemon Trozei/Steel Diver subwars/Hana samurai-like projects, but for Wii U.

Plus, eshop indie focus, on various projects like

'90 Arcade
Project Cars
many others

I don't think we'll ever see much more in the Wii U lifecycle, especially Metroid or Star fox related, that would be two games I'd really want to see. If they'd show something related to this, add also Shadow of the eternal co-funding and I'll bless my Wii U ;p

For 3DS, I'd really like them to announce various localizations, as for DQ or Fantasy Life or Yokai Watch or Friend collection for example, confirming also SMTIV for PAL release...plus some new game announced like

Zelda Majora Mask 3D
Metroid Dread
Mario Land 2

and I'd be happy

Hmmm? 3DS outside of Smash Bros, sure. But I strongly doubt anything they reveal for Wii U will release this year when we already know about Bayo 2, X, Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros, other than the NFC game we already know about of course.

Why not? Nintendo typically have low reveal to release times, except when they're forced to reveal things early. Look at Mario last year, and Wind Waker.

Because the Wii U's lineup has been so anaemic and they already have 4-5 games coming out in the latter half of the year. I can't see anything else being announced for that timeframe without something like X being pushed to 2015.

Probably never gonna happen, but you have no idea the amount of money nintendo would make off of the pokemon property with a good F2P model! The fact that the IP has over 700 pokemon to collect I see a gold mine for monitizaton.

-No 3D its not needed, just High res update to gameboy presentation
-Players only interact with each other in town
-In town users can chat, as well as get and return quests.
-In Town is where they use: auction house, hospital,PVP Arena, mailbox, cash shop
-Towns are separated by large Fields (which are instanced)
-Pokemon are randomly encountered in fields
-Players level up both a trainer and pokemon from battle and questing
-Limit Trainer level cap to number of collected pokemon
-Pokemon level limited by trainer cap of course
-Pokemon require pokeballs to capture. (capture success based on RNG)
-Limited amount of free Pokeballs, pvp arena passes, daily
-More are earned from quests or dropped by wild pokemon
-More can be purchased from NPCs with in game currency.

ANd then
-Sell additional Pokeballs
-Sell tickets to Pokemon game preserve (durational access to feild with exotic pokemon)
-Sell additional Ranked PvP arena tickets
-Sell additional Pokemon Revives at Hospital (whole set)
-Sell in field single pokemon revives
-Sell Random Pokemon Egg - 1 of 100 random pokemon (list updated monthly)
-Sell Bike (for faster travel)
-Sell trading/mailing passes
-Sell additional AH listings

And I could go on and on. like I said SO MUCH money in this IP if Nintendo ever took it F2P MMO style. Even just the cut paste Korean design would print money.

Well, this year we have more "already announced games" coming out in the late 2014: Hyrule Warriors, Smash and Bayonetta2. I firmly believe that they'll not be able to publish ProjectX in the West, but it should be another game for this year in Japan. Considering this, I think that they'll announce the NFC game for 2014 release at E3, but I don't know if they'll be able to add another one for this year.
If there will be, I bet on Animal Crossing U.

Nintendo still managed to get 6 games published in NA in the 2nd half year at retail and it would have been 7 if Donkey had made it. We'll see, maybe they can do some unannounced stuff in the latter half, but maybe not.

I think that, if they'll publish Project X in the West, we'll have "only" the NFC game in 2014. Otherwise, we could see another game fit in the lineup (but could als be the already announce Yoshi, for the "Year of Yoshi" :p )

They said they'd show the NFC software at E3. Aonuma has said he will discuss Wii U Zelda at E3 as well.

I really think NFC is just another gimmick like the AR cards.

Nintendo have. Repeatedly. They have said that the new Zelda will be shown, as StreetsAhead said they've promised to show the NFC game there and last year they even mentioned being there.

So they realized last year's no show was a mistake. Doing a press conference gets you a lot more exposure than a web stream.

The back-pedalling about the Direct at E3 strategy last year suggests to me that they know it didn't work.

They could have got away with a full conference last year, but part of this thread is wondering whether that's going to be a possibility this year.

Or they could publish more than6 games in the 2nd half of the year. For example, last year in Japan, they published 8 between July & December.

Are you talking about a pre-E3 conference or the actual 3-day expo? The statement I linked to only confirms presence at the actual E3 expo, not whether they'll do a live pre-E3 conference on a stage.

realistically they can give us release dates on software so I can determine if selling my WiU now will be a better move than keeping it.

edit: I swear if I have to wait more than 6 months for 'good' or hell ANY games to come out I am done with it-

In terms of games? Their are a lot of games they can show this year (Smash 3DS/WiiU, Zelda, Yoshi Yarn, X, Bayonetta 2, Majora's Mask 3D, Pokemon Z). I actually do see them showing QOL stuff at E3. Since when has something not being suited to the event ever stopped Nintendo or anyone for that matter?

Most likely if you weren't interested in the 3DS or Wii U before this E3 you probably still won't be interested after as it will probably be a pretty tame year outside of the other things they are working on.

OP acts as if Sony and MS will only have new unannounced IPs at their press conferences - I don't care if X or Smash have been announced before if I get new information and trailers in these games. Would love Nintendo to release e3 demos to Bayonetta 2, X and Co. on the eShop.

With Zelda Dynasty Warriors and the Majors Mask 3D remake probably hitting this year, I don't know if they will or can already unveil Zelda WiiU. They probably have to live with WiiU for another 2-3 years, so they can't let all their cats out the bag at once.
