What was everyone's first computer and first computer game?

First system we ever had was an Atari STFM
Atari+520+ste.JPG

We had this "discovery pack" which came with a few games, but we also must have had another bunch of games bundled in aside from this official bundle. Googling suggests it may have been a variation of the Atari Power pack.

Whatever it was, my first computer was a system that right from the start I had access to the likes of Outrun, Space Harrier, Afterburner, Bomb Jack, Carrier Command, Eliminator, Nebulus, Pac-Mania, Gauntlet II, Super Hang-On, Xenon, Roadblasters, Atari Grand Prix and others I don't remember right now. Thinking about this list, its mostly arcade conversions, so it was ironically a home computer and not a console that got me into arcade style gaming in the first place.

The first of these pack in games I ever played was either Bomb Jack or Eliminator.

The venerable and unconquered Commodore 64

and of course dat ODell Lake

I remember my dad giving me the box to this and wondering "what the hell kind of game is this?" This was the Dark Souls of educational fish sim/rpgs.

Some eMachines piece of shit from Best Buy and the original Rainbow Six. Half-Life 1 followed shortly thereafter.

Edit: I guess technically I played on my parents TI-99/4A when I was a kid but due to the cassettes and joysticks it felt more like a console to me.

Either an IBM PC 8088 @ 4.77MHz with Hercules Monochrome, or SVI-728 Spectravideo MSX. Unsure which arrived first.

As for games, would be some Swedish text adventures on the PC and some Konami cartridges like Nemesis (Gradius) for the Spectravideo.

Not sure what the computer was, but we had some DOS machine with 8-inch floppies including Windows 3.1x and a few games. The only one I remember is Ernie's Big Splash (a Pipe Mania style game):

We also had an MSX but considered it more of a console back then.

Commodore 64, I can't remember the first game I've owned on it as it was not unusual to buy a C64 with a floppy disc box full of pirated games, I even thought this was somehow supposed to be like that as I didn't know better in the mid/late 80's.

First game I have played on a friends C64 before that was Maniac Mansion.

286 something or other. I believe my first game was Gorilla (that Worms game written in Basic). Following that was Commander keen.

The oldest thing I remember playing on was something like this:

cpc464.jpg

Not 100% it was that exact model but it was something like that. Can't remember any of the games it played.

If we're talking about my first proper PC then it was this:

pc_club_small.jpg

Specs: Windows 98, 14" Monitor (not sure resolution), Cyrix MII 300 cpu, 2.1GB HDD, 32mb RAM.

it came with a Pingu game and an Adiboo game. I loved them. My favourite game was Motorcross Madness (1998). Can't remember the other games.

I only built my first PC this year. Specs: i5-4590, 16GB RAM, R9 290 4GB, 1TB SSD. my favourite games are GTA V/Witcher 3 at the moment.

1st Console game = Karateka & Super Mario Bros. for the NES

1st Computer game = Thexder on a very old PC clone (forgot the brand/name....i think it's called Cubic XT or something...hey, i was only 8 then)

My first computer was an Amstrad CPC 6128. Past the initial awe, it was a pain in the ass.

And the first game that I remember on it was either P-47

or Ikari Warriors, I dont remember which one I played first.

My first computer was a dell xps m140 laptop.

But my first computer game was Ragnarok online, i didn't have a mouse and the vents would burn my arm often, but it was great having my own computer and i payed for it, yeah!

My first home computer was a Spectrum ZX80 and the first game I ever played on it was Percy the Potty Pigeon. I'd played plenty of other games before that, but the Spectrum was the first one our family actually owned.

Eheh, same here

But in brasil it was called "TK80x"

Don't know why.

First game I have no clue... I can remember the first time I've played any game ever (at an arcade) but not the first game at this computer

First computer was a zx81. As far as I remember you had to code everything yourself there was no way to load programs or games.

I don't THINK we ever coded a game onto it.

First game was Horace goes skiing on the spectrum 48k+

My family's first computer was a Ti99/4a and my first game was either Parsec, Chisholm Run or Alpiner.

My first personal computer was an Apple II. I only had a monochrome green monitor to use with it though.
I played Kareteka or some other random game on it, but I usually ended up just playing NES to play proper games.

Dont even remember exactly, but I remember my dad buying laptops. I think the one I first played on was a compaq laptop. My first game on that was Doom in 1994.

Atari 800 XL it had to be late 1982 or early 1983.
I'm not sure first game, but earliest gaming memory on Atari was Super Cobra (Konami's Scramble sequel/clone).

The first computer my family actually owned (I used Apple computers at school and the library for a few years as a toddler) was a Gateway computer that looked exactly like this:

It ran this:

And my first game for it was this?

Or this?

Does anyone remember playing Lander on the Archimedes? Not my first game as that would have been Ghostbusters or Pole Position on the Commodore 64 but really stood out to me. Maybe because we had it at school and we're allowed a go on it every now and again.

Commodore 64.

And Boulder Dash, probably.

Where's my grimdark HD version of Boulder Dash? Even Bomberman got one.

An Atari computer in the early nineties that my uncle gave me. I also got what seemed to be every Atari game ever on floppy discs to use on it.

Some old PC with a Hercules card in it. No idea about the specs anymore, but the processor ran at 8Mhz and it had a turbo-button which increased it to 16Mhz.

First games on it were a golf game and some multiplayer game in space, I think. (one player was a triangle, the other a circle, and you basically move around and try to shoot eachother, from what I remember at least.)

First computer game was Electro Man or Bumpy's Arcade Fantasy on my friends IBM PC. The only computer in neighborhood. My first PC was P3 600 MHz so the is big time gap between the two. PC was so expensive back then.

This guy right here

I was a young pc gamer, so I started off with a lot of educational software like reader rabbit and Disney software.Don't remember what was first though.

I remember my dad bringing home a 286 running a DOS shell called Direct Access in either 88 or 89. I loved it!

My first PC game was Astro Grover.

DickSmith_VZ200_System_s1.jpg

My first computer was a Laser VZ200 which was my parents christmas present in 1985. It was quite cheap I think, but it had no games..

Had to wait for the C64, which I got one and a half years later.

flashgordon.gif

and there my first game was Flash Gordon. A cheap but awesome Mastertronic game.

Captain Comic:

As played on an IBM...I forget the model and such. It had a big IBM logo on it, and had drives for hard disks and big-ol' floppy discs. This was in...I want to say, 1991?

My first computer was a Commodore 16 and the first game was something I found in one of those "write your own game in BASIC" books. I don't remember what it was.

My first computer was a PC with an 8088 CPU and a Hercules graphics card which had to be switched between text mode and graphics mode. The first game I played on that was possibly Pango. I had to manually disengage the turbo or it would be over in 1 sec.

Unfortunately we didnt own a PC in the 80s so only way to experience the games were by visiting friends or relatives. So I cant really remember what system or game it was I saw first. But it was surely monochrome

But first computer game I remember best must have been on an Amiga 2000 in 1989:

North and South

north_and_south_01.png

Then back to PC gaming stone age....Had to wait till 1994 before I played games with full color and sound again....

Parents bought in 1994 a Compaq 486sx25 with Windows 3.1 and used that machine for office work till 2004. Very sturdy machine overall

First monochrome PC game I played was Lakers vs Celtics on a friends 8088 in 1992
First full color and sound PC game was Jill of the Jungle in late-1994
