Where Winds Meet |OT| Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Can someone explain to me or link me to a video about the monitization of this game?? I am thinking about starting it soon and I want to have an idea
They sell clothes, skins, hairstyles and other cosmetics.

The game also has a gacha system where you can pull for special cosmetics.

It uses a stamina system (like in most gachas), where to do some stuff you spend stamina points, usually the things that cost stamina are related to items to farm to make you character stronger. The stamina thing slowly regen as real time passes, so you can only do so much of those activities per day. Unless you decide to spend real money to recover stamina.

If you played Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, this game uses basically the same system. But rather than spending on characters, players can spend on cosmetics.

Anyway, I played for a couple of hours and it seems cool. But I will stick to WuWa.

If it is just cosmetics that means the game is really free to play, I mean I personally couldn't care less about cosmetics

Yup. I got bitten by this since I made my Star Rail account on PS5, so now that I mostly play it on PC, I can't purchase any of the bundles that show up in the store since it says I can only buy them on PS5. I can still grab BP, the monthly pass, and some deals from their external top-up website, but for the ones that are only in-game I have to go through the PSN payment system. Lesson learned, though I really wish they'd stop forcing this stuff in F2P games with cross-save progression between platforms.
You can't even do that with this game. The NetEase website pops out an error and says you cannot purchase anything at all unless it's through PSN. And even after you purchase it, you can't redeem any of the shit on any platform but PlayStation. So, half the shit I unlock I have to log into my PS5 to actually redeem. It's far worse than any other gatcha I've played in this regards.

I'm level 17 and barely did any main quest missions, just side quests and exploring.

Did the Crimson Cliff Moon Goddess sidequest and it's good. Exploration felt really nice.

Also the fighting tournament sidequest... That old man is constantly kicking my butt and I can't beat him.

If this was published by From Software media would be praising the crap out of this game.

Releasing this as a free to play game is completely insane.

There, I've said it.
You'll be able to post signs when you finish the tournament and claim your reward.

Is there a way to wipe your character and start over?

I'm maybe 90 minutes into the game and not happy with my character design.

I'm not sure how dense it is, but I think there's an option to adjust some things after creating a new character.

I remember seeing some option for that across the menus.

But take it with a grain of salt, I don't know if you can completely change how the character looks.

Yeah, I read about that, but it's not what I want to do.

I want to completely scrap my character and start from scratch.

I started on PC so I guess I could just start over on PS5, but I don't really want to do that either, but will as a last resort if I can't figure out how to delete my current character

I can't figure out how to link my ps5 account to my steam account. I stopped before character creation but it still gives me the error like I already have another character.
I did the email to their customer support.

You have an option which you can access in the menu after the tutorial.

You can link PS5, net ease and steam there.

Can you create multiple characters or are you stuck with just one?

I'd like to play the main story as a male character but would rather look at a female character on the screen if I'm doing side quests and stuff, is that possible or not?

Even though the game has some things I dont like, like graphics inconsistencies, weird pacing at times, very confusing UI and very weird translation issues, I think the game is actually quite addictive and its a good game underneath. I have played eleven hours since release and I want to continue playing

I think that what this game does very well is the exploration and the world building. There are lots of places to explores, hidden caves, dungeons and so on. Its huge. At the same time there are many skills and abilities which gives a lot of variety to the combat. I think the game is worth playing but one must be patience, learn everything well and deal with the up and downs

Pro tip that I read on reddit: do not use your jade (the most easy to get currency in the game) to try your luck on gacha.

Turns out that you can use said jade to buy inner skills, and there's a specific one, "something Morale" that increases a lot of your attributes.

There's an early side quest on Where Winds Meet called Echoes of Old Battles, and if you've started it, there's a good chance you were stumped by the wall puzzle in the secret chamber. This video is a complete guide to starting and finishing the quest, though it doesn't include the locations of every single treasure chest.

00:00 - Intro
00:32 - How to Start Echoes of Old Battles
00:48 - How to Open the Secret Chamber
02:05 - How to Solve the Puzzle on the Wall
03:32 - How to Complete Echoes of Old Battles

I don't know if it's a bug or intentional but I'm seeing some of the signs. First time I go to the clinic and it's expensive, then I read the sign lol.

Started chapter 2 today:

Arrived to a gigantic city, got level locked right away, decided to explore for a bit, entered a random house
shocked jurassic park GIF

the house leads to another freaking city below it

Started to play this yesterday, it gives me a good feel, like the one where you want to go slow and explore. This feels like for me it can be a sleeper, wich i was close to not give a chance at all.

Am I the only one struggling with the debate mini-game? I have no idea which cards to choose, specially because the dialogue moves so fast that I can't even stop to think what to select basically.

Is it something that gets better if you choose the Scholar Profession?

I think I'm deviating too much exploring the game, quests pop out everywhere. I'm level 30 and still haven't progressed main quest in the slightest.

We could build a Neogaf guild for this. Anyone interested?

Yes, you can level up Scholar profession and you get more efficient during the 'debate' mini-game. It's easy at the beginning to come across harder opponent and the game doesn't really flag it for you.

Call me weird but I actually dont like so much the outfits in the store otherwise I would've bought something to support these guys. The outfits are too exuberant and weird, I dont know how to describe it in english but they dont look like fighting outfits to me

Hopefully they bring more stuff later, I feel guilty for playing this without buying anything lol

Yap, same here. They're very chinese looking. The one being highlighted right now, the red one, is horrible.

I suppose chinese players like these, but I find them hideous to say the least.

There's a more casual one in the shop, a black one, which looks nice and clean, but I won't spend a dime, since I first wanna get some costumes via quests and such.

I'll probably end up buying the BP, game is good, free, and deserves support, but for now I'm super chill in terms of costumes. Just wanna play the game.

I know what you mean, I think the word 'practical' applies here, they don't seem practical.

There's some I'd like to get, but those highlighted super premium ones look a bit over the top, still, some people gobbled them up to dance etc. in the more social areas. I literally read yesterday "I bought it because I felt physically sick not having drip" lmao.

Interview with the producer from 01/2025: Link

About the numbers of devs I was asking about earlier:
Beralt: For this product, we're not a large team. We currently have around 200 people within the product team, and about 300 including the middleware team. We'll see if we can expand to around 500 later.

About the paid outfits:
Mobile Game Tidbits: I love hearing this. You just said you wanted to polish the commercial look.

Beralt: People often say that the free outfits in Yanyun are better looking than the paid ones. This is because our paid cosmetic value system follows the value system of past MMOs—expensive cosmetics emphasize showing off more.

Mobile Game Tidbits: Lower-Tier Aesthetics?

Beralt: It has nothing to do with market penetration; it's about the value of "showing off." Whether my appearance looks good or not is unimportant; what matters is that everyone can immediately tell it's expensive. For example, white hair is definitely expensive, special effects are definitely expensive, and a cool avatar on the checkout screen is definitely expensive.

Of course, the value of showing off and aesthetics are not entirely contradictory; we are also learning from and reflecting on this with our players.

However, the logic of showing off only works for a portion of users.

Users who say that showing off is unattractive feel that showing off disrupts their sense of immersion. In comparison, free clothes provide a better sense of immersion and a greater connection to the world.

Actually, we've always felt that individual users also have a need for self-gratification, but we weren't clear about the "degree" of what people liked before. Now that we have user feedback, what we need to do is build an aesthetic system that users can accept based on their needs.

This is also the space we are striving to explore.

The style is more or less typical for wuxia where both male and female usually fights in clothes and not armor. And those are often fancy.

Bought myself a kimono-like with carp design, it's cheap, and thinking a bit about cat dress, though its already a bit pricey.

I think i messed up. Been playing on PS5 and linked my account, wanted to set up on Geforce Now to have more flexibility at home and i could not for the love of me before character select screen find the damn bind account.. only time if when i finally got into the game was i able to get to the settings menu... i exited out.

In fact, many Chinese players are also not very satisfied. Personally, I think it might be because female players in China like this style.

Hit lvl 40 yesterday but got stuck on a story boss (playing on Legend difficulty) so I had to focus on upgrading and finding a healing weapon to help me out, which allowed me to finally beat the boss. Would post screenshots of the amazing looking arena but I don't want to spoil it for anybody... so all I'll say is that this game gets pretty crazy.

I'm in the second region now and I'm still amazed at how much there is in this game. It's janky and very unpolished at times (especially in regards to localization) but I'm still having a great time with it.

Glad I didn't buy Arc Raiders because this game would have stolen me from it lol

A lot of quality memes about terrorist supporter hasan piker shocking his dog. Love to see it.
Oh there was way more unhinged stuff than just memes... I'm sure those accounts are probably banned by now but it reminded me of the wild west days of the internet lol

Yeah the account binding is really poorly explained. Wanted to switch to Epic so I can get some cashback if/when I support the game but I made the same mistake as you. I emailed them to see if they can unbind/delete the unwanted account but no response yet.

Many more hours later and I am still confused from all the menus there.
I sometimes use the shortcut that popup on the left side, to access some new menu and I'm lost again

Yeah, thats where i am at deleting the epic games account, but unsure if i need to unbind my psn account from net ease. What a cluster.

Same. One of the most important elements - the injuries you get along the way and how bad they can progress if you dont heal them - is so damn well hidden that it's completely stupid.

Took me more than 20h in the game to exactly find where that shit was in the menu.

Yes, same here. Yesterday I used some potion or something that made my hair all messed up and I got some kind of a debuff (icon) over my healthbar. I was so confused and did not know where to find what it is and how to heal it. After like 20 minutes I finally found what was it and how to cure it. The cure? Go to the water knee deep and it will be good. I went to the river near me and my character was instantly healed :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Account stuff aside, I'm addicted to this game. The combat is excellent and on Legendary the bosses can be brutal. The exploration is fun, and there are a shit ton activities to change things up. Even with an issue here or there this is a damn good game.

Yeah, save your first 5k for sure. That skill is one of, if not the best in the game, and is basically meta for every weapon build. You can get it right as you are leaving the first area while doing the main quest.
How do you enter these? I've seen the icon at the top saying "Parade in Progress" but I have no clue how to access it.
Click the icon and just click on any of the characters that show up. They're the criminals you toss rotten food at, it's hilarious and really fast. You can get rewards five times a day and it takes like a minute. While you are there there are also other things you can do, like some easy multiplayer stuff that doesn't require killing but counts towards multiplayer dailies.

It would be cool if they would fix sone of the low res textures. Sometimes there is a big contrast in quality which hurts the presentation

click that yellow Time-Limited icon ^^

Bro that's legit the thing. I can't for the love of god find where you access the Parade. I see the icon, go into the season area, there's no where to be found.

It would make sense to be on the casual co-op tab, but it isn't.

EDIT: Nevermind, my Rivatuner statistics are right at the top of the button. I wasn't seeing it :messenger_tears_of_joy:
