Where's the hype for Xenoblade Chronicles X?

No idea. The answers were published in the physical magazine only, and the only scan of it I can find with a quick Google search didn't include that part.

I'm sure it was pretty good, though. There's no way Famitsu would publish in their magazine something overtly negative about a Nintendo property.

That's true, I don't really trust anything published by Famitsu lol.

I'm not as hyped because I sold off my Wii U. I probably will not play any Wii U games til the NX is announced with backward compatibility (if it happens). If not, I'll buy a Wii U at the end of the cycle.

Plus no time with college. :/

All of the things the reviews and impressions derided were the concerns I had prior to release. I might pick it up still to support the series, but it's not something I'm hyped for. I wanted the series to go one way and it went another.

1. Hype culture is fueled by millions of dollars of marketing money.

2. The kinds of people who would get games that are designed for those able to pass the marshmallow test generally dont join in blind frothing hype.

3. A lot of people like myself have gone on blackout since the game released in japan. I only know enough to have a very strong hunch the 8-4 localization completely destroyed the story. And no, that has nothing to do with removing itty bitty cleavage, that one actually gets kudos.

I don't know. Here's one metric for you:

Xenoblade: http://wiimk2.net/title.php?title=757

Highest rated Wii RPG on the site.

XenobladeX: http://wiimk2.net/wiiu/title.php?title=124

Far fewer reviews, but fairly middling compared to its predecessor. (A 59 on MK2 is actually fairly decent, relatively).

Even Famitsu (lol) rated it a bit lower than the original at a 34 (vs. 36). I don't know what surveys you're referring to, but the general reception is not nearly as strong as Xenoblade for the Wii was.

WOW. so to the Japanese fans XB WII was S(10/10) and XBX is D(6/10)?

good thing I didn't pre order it. I'll wait for the review thread.

my hype for this was supplanted by my hype for fallout 4. Will still get this but I'll need to finish fallout before I start xenoblade

I'm very very hyped. MGS 5 is out so Xenoblade Chronicles X is the only other game I'm hyped about this year.

I'm hoping it will blow me away like Xenoblade Chronicles did.

This is what happens when you release a game in one region 8 months earlier.

You learn the game isn't as good as you thought before it released and now have 8 months to mull that over and lower expectations. Nintendo aren't doing anything for it, aren't treating it like their huge Winter release, it feels like they're sending it out to die.

From what I've heard, it seems to have a story that is meant to be explored just as much through the main campaign as from the side quests and activities that you have to do (apparently, a lot of character development takes place in those). Since this is more of an open world game than a traditional JRPG, it has a fundamentally different method of playing than the first game (again, from reading opinions), which is what apparently turned some people who preferred the first style off.

Still, the reviews have mostly been very positive from what I've seen.

There are only 3 western reviews that I've seen out, one of which (Kotaku's) was not that great (but that guy didn't like the first game either), but the other two were very positive - DualShock gave it a 9.5 and Nintendo World Report gave it a 9.

Not an rpg fan. They should have just did an hd version of the first one. It got such praise that i would have tried it instead of the 3ds version.

At this point, ill just stick to what i know i like.

good thing I didn't pre order it. I'll wait for the review thread.

The site has become less active over the years and it is a comparison of 114 reviews vs 22 reviews, so each XenobladeX review has much more weight. Don't take it as gospel of course.

I do personally think it will see a lot of 6 ~ 8 scores from the western media, though.

the localization better be damn good

From what I saw at PAX, it seemed solid. Lyn was a dramatic improvement as she sounded like an actual person instead of stupid trope.

Not sure how much hype you are expecting for a Wii U exclusive JRPG.

Nuh-uh. This consistently made it into the hype threads of GAF, Top 10, for like two years.

And that's the problem. Game took too long. Should've come out last year, and localization sure shouldn't have been eight months. Eight months?! Who authorized that?

I'm getting it because I'm bored, but I don't have high hopes. MMO combat + a silent protagonist killed those.

I'm still hyped.

I don't talk much more about it because there's not much to talk about it.

Game looks great and fun, please get someone to make a good battle system on the next one Takahashi, thank you.

And that would just be the same thing over and over >.>

Although I do wish Nintendo would have released more footage of it by now (like, how much footage of the English dub did we even get after that tiny bit at E3?)

Also, I'm not going to play the game anytime soon, I'll probably be buying a Wii U around the time Zelda releases, but right now I simply don't have the time to add even more games to my list (I'll have some time at the end of the year, but I'm already drowning in titles to play).

So yeah, that's my case.

I forgot the thread, but he posted a novel's worth of conspiracy theory stuff and more or less went off the rails because 8-4 changed the names of the various Unions that the player can join. At least, I think that's how it went.

Eh.

I believe this game coming out in JP so long ago squashed a lot of the initial interest people had for the game. It seemed it wasn't getting the insane reception people were hoping.

I don't know, personally I don't really want to play this on a Wii U. My gaming time nowadays is a very social one and I want to be connected with my friends while I play, even if its just in a party chat over Xbox Live.

It's hard for me to get excited about anything on the Wii U. That ship has sailed, unfortunately. =(

Persona 5 got delayed and I enjoyed the first Xenoblade as much if not more for the gameplay than the story so I'm really excited about the sequel. It also helps that I'm not particularly interested in the other bigger profile games coming out this holiday season.

My hype doesn't usually kick in until the week leading up to release. I got my SE from Amazon ready to though and the launch is right when my winter break starts so I'm more than ready to dig into it then.

I had this pre-ordered ages ago, but canceled it because of the negative early impressions (also not a fan of the silent protagonist business, not after Shulk). The game isn't going anywhere, so if it is good, I'll just pick it up later.

I think you'er talking about the B.L.A.D.E. acronym change thread, which got changed from "Beyond the Logos Artificial Destiny Emancipator" to "Building a Legacy After the Destruction of Earth", which I was initially a bit mad about since the former had a connection to the story, but the translation isn't that far off.

And some of the division names went from cool sounding names to less cool sounding names.

I honestly expect a lot of reviews in the score range of 7-9

no 10s

and the odd 3-4 with the reason being 'its a pretty but boring wii u game'

Oh, yeah, that was it!

But man, "Beyond the Logos Artificial Destiny Emancipator"

What a riot. I can't read it without cringing.

"Where's the hype for a very niche game on a niche console?"

To be fair, I'm pretty interested in Xenoblade X. I'm all for more JRPGs and games with mechs and especially JRPGs with mechs.

But even if the game turns out to be a disappointment, at least it has really cool box art!

Plenty of hype here for me. It's probably the only real game I'll play (for more than a few minutes) since Splatoon.

I have no qualms with the music either. It'll be a fantastic, new, refreshing experience.

Hey wait, weren't you that guy bashing them getting rid of nonsensical Engrish?

Oh boy, thanks for the heads up. Was worried there might've been some actual evidence to substantiate his claims for a sec

Had to cancel my preorder. I want to be hyped but it's just not hitting me. I'll grab it once the price has gone down a lot.

Also yeah the way I heard it, there's been some hype deflation over something Really Fucking Stupid about the antagonist's motivations:

Mega Spoilers:

...Because the governments of Earth had to make some sacrifices and not let EVERYONE onto the arks which have LIMITED SPACE AND RESOURCES, Lao betrays BLADE and goes to Growth to wipe out humanity.

That's right. Because humanity did what was necessary to make sure at least SOME humans survive, it's time to wipe the survivors out. Humans are such bastards, y'know, doing what's necessary to not go extinct. What an unspeakable thing.

LOGIC!

Seriously, it's fucking Fallout 3 Ending levels of stupidity.

Care to elaborate?

Xeno stories are heavily based on the works of famous philosophers mixed with takes on interpretations of similar subjects in religion. Knowledge of these subjects drastically changes the interpretation of what actually took place in the game.

Xenogears was mainly Frueds works and gnosticism

Xenosagas was a fairly weak, but overt work based on Friedrich Nietzsche's will to power.

Xenoblade Was based off of Gottfreid Leibniz's'The Monadology', Sacred mathematics, Pythogorean religion, and functional programming.

Knowing the monado is based off of monads completely brings to light what is actually going on in xenoblade, which is far more than 'a boy and a magical sword'.

Had localization say, renamed the monado 'light sabbre', and removed all the other aspects of the philosophy the game was originally based on, that entire aspect of the game would be destroyed and parts in game relating to it would be nonsensical.

The localization has already completely removed heavy references to jungian works, to make things 'sound cooler', and have already completely removed the rooted concept of the collective unconcious from at least the beginning of the game.

I am not confident in trusting them to notice what they have done and attempt to rectify it.

I've heard worse motivations in my animu
Maybe he's angry about who decides to let who lives and who dies, maybe he lost someone close to him because of that

This and Yakuza 5 are the only games I'm excited for at the end of 2015.

Though I'm sad that after Xenoblade, X doesn't have as much story. Though I'm glad to hear their next project will be story heavy (or at least they want it to be).
