Which Console is "Saved" More at E3: Vita or WiiU?

Neither, but both will continue to get games that some people want to play.

I like this outlook. Nintendo would be crazy to just give up on their console, though, and I doubt they will. SCEA has the excuse of PS4/3 focus, but I see no harm in them throwing Vita a bone, especially with so much on the way.

Nintendo seems to care about the Wii U more. The Vita strikes me as nothing but an expensive experiment for Sony. I have to imagine that Iwata feels the failure of the Wii U more than anyone at Sony does about the Vita, so I can imagine more resources are being poured into Wii U development.

They have been throwing a bone to current owners and people on the fence for a Vita all this week, but they're not mainstream titles. I think that plays to Vita's strengths since it's not a mainstream handheld. Sony may finally be accepting that.

Neither.

Nintendo is completely clueless about the WiiU and Sony just doesn't seem to care that much about the Vita anymore, it seems even they realized what a flop it is.

I'm sure they'll be profitable ventures when the end comes though.

Nintendo will announce a few new titles for Wii U (one of which will be Zelda) and show off some more of already announced games (Smash Bros, X, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Yarn Yoshi, SMTxFE).

Sony will announce something like Ratchet & Clank HD Collection coming to Vita if we're lucky.

Should be obvious.

From a purely western perspective. Definitely Wii U.

Whilst its popularity is nowhere near the heights of the Wii days, Mario and co are still far more marketable than anything what the Vita has atm.

From a western perspective indeed, which makes me wonder why people give so much stock to the western perspective when no western developer cares about either machine.

They are, and that's great. But it can't do any harm to do a 2-5 minute video at E3 showing all the software on the way.

I don't think I buy into the whole "saved" concept. At 10,000 units sold in March, the Vita is isn't being resurrected in the U.S., and Sony has traditionally ignored it at western conferences such as E3. Barring some sort of cross-promotion with the PS4, I think the Wii U "wins" the battle of the underdogs here by (theoretical) default. And by "wins," I mean gets more positive feedback from gamers and the press and maybe takes some steps toward being a profitable console one day.

Based on what they could potentially show, Nintendo has the ability to make this a stellar E3 for Wii U. A proper Zelda, Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, "X," Yarn Yoshi, a first-party NFC project, Miyamoto's new game and Retro's post-Donkey Kong project are all on the table. That's to make no mention of possible surprises.

So they could do that at a conference. Or, they could pull a Nintendo and dedicate 3/4 of their presentation to a Kirby game that you play by actually eating your chair and the remaining 1/4 of it to Iwata reciting traditional Japanese poetry. Who fuckin' knows with these guys.

Vita has 2million sales over the WiiU and it came out in the same year (albeit earlier). I'm putting my money on the Vita.

WiiU came out 9 months after the Vita worldwide launch and almost a year after its japanese launch, so it's pretty unfair comparison you have there.

Considering the great PS4 success, Vita soon can be marketed as the ultimate PS4 companion thanks to PS Plus, cross buy, cross save, remote play and PS Now during the upcoming years.

E3 is a great place to start doing it since now PS4 launch marketing campaign has been already completed so they can just focus their E3 now on showcasing a few new big PS4 games, several PS4+Vita indies, PS Now details, project Morpheus update, western Vita TV launch announcement, Vita memory card price cut and to start a Vita relaunch more focused as PS4 companion device.

Wii U has the most potential for E3.

Vita will excellence in indie games but the only way that it will ever see AAA games again is if Borderlands 2 sells great.

Simply because of the fact that Mario and Zelda are still strong IPs in the west? Besides Indies, Western third parties are a lost cause on both Vita and Wii U, and whatever games are planned for both systems at the moment, I'd say whatever the Wii U still has appeal more to the west.

Are you kidding me? Wii U. At least one large company still cares about the Wii U in the States, and that company is called Nintendo. Zero large companies care about the Vita in the States, and the small ones who do (Atlus, NISA, Aksys) don't really give a shit about E3.

(SONY FEEL FREE TO PROVE ME WRONG but you won't)
You think that some of those smaller Japanese developers wouldn't be thrilled if their American and European language translations got stage time in the brightest spotlight of American games media?

Didnt say people that last year? That this E3 would be the perfect one to reintroduce Vita as PS4 addon? And that this, with the PS4 momentum, would translate into better sales?

Do we really have this discussion again?

While that is totally true for stuff you have now, if you would like wild and crazy things like games, system updates, apps or general support of any significant level in the future, you should hope it at least sells a little.

I have a Vita and kinda sorta want a WiiU but it is hard to muster the desire when you know you're getting maybe 1 or 2 games a year that you may want out of 3 or 4 noteworthy releases each (depending on taste).
If you're only interested in 1-2 games that release on Vita per year, you're in the wrong niche. If you were an early adopter, then I can see why you'd be bummed. However, if you purchased a Vita recently and you're on GAF, I can't really imagine that you'd not know what the Vita's niche is now.

?

Sony cares

Thats why they have entire teams dedicated to loading up the system with awesome games.

Just because AAA devs are focusing on PS4 doesn't mean Vita isn't getting some amazing stuff.

This is a known quantity for awhile and the core reason why software keeps coming in droves to the platform

The owners buy CONSISTENTLY
The essence of a niche is that if you cater to it well enough, the consumers in that niche reward you. You're more focused on what THEY want and they spend their money on what you're providing because not everyone is providing it.

This falls flat regarding ports and indies though, unless the niche requires the portability factor, because most indies and ports are available elsewhere. If you like American versions of niche Japanese games though, the Vita (and not much else) is delivering that in Spades.

Japan Studio did Oreshika 2. Also Freedom Wars, I think.

Freedom Wars is like a joint project apparently SCE Japan Studio, Shift, Dimps. But its published by SCEJ. One thing I fucking worry about is that its another dumbshit situation of Internet play being added by update. We all know HOW WELL that went with GE2. Which still doesnt have it. The little info is on the OHP.

What do people mean by saved? Neither console is going to have this huge 3DS style turnaround. The Wii U will continue to get first party games I want to play, and the Vita will continue to get niche games I want to play, but those things don't at all guarantee a lot of mainstream success.

Put TLG on the vita.

Boom, vita is saved.

But to answer OP, the wiiu has the best chance easily.

Zelda, metroid, smash and Mario kart will move enough units for it to do OK. Nintendo would seriously have to consider making a new console though if it wants third parties back on their side. Or go for the indie push.

Like I've been suggesting in other posts, short of bundling it with the ps4 it's not going to move units.

Bundle it though and get timed exclusives on the thing and they might just have a chance. With the lcd screen at least the price will come down!
