Play the original without any mods first, just use the modern renderer.

Then play IW. Then HR. Then MD.

Basically, play them in the order they were released.

Mankind Divided's unfinished plot is a lot more enjoyable if you have played the original Deus Ex, and Human Revolution should be played before too.

HR is a better game and first chronologically, so play that first.

Any QoL improvements in MD will only negatively impact your enjoyment of HR should you play it after.

I actually just started Mankind Divided, my first DE game. Quick question for those that have played it, the controls seem a little wonky, should I look into changing them?

I had a quick look at the settings and there seemed to be other options, but some of the other control schemes looked like they actually lose functions?

Anyone?

The original Deus Ex from GOG.

If you're only into modern games then definitely Human Revolution. A much more enjoyable game for me than Mankind Divided (I still consider MD to be good).

So play the one that came first.

HR.

And if you really want the entire DE story, play the original and IW before HR.

Not quite every aspect. MD has the better levels and is much, much superior mechanically.

Just finished MD. Controls felt stiff when I first start off, but they grew on me. I did adjust the aim sensitivity though, it was not zippy enough for me.
