Do people really realize that most of sony's lineup didnt have any release window(s)?
Yeah, the games were amazing, hell, the orchestra was amazing as hell! but they didn't even have a trailer for crash bandicoot!

Yeah it's a negative, but if MS's lineup included games people were genuinely excited for and release dates they may have won. As it is, they have release dates but not the titles people are most excited for.

I tried it out, really disappointing. It was basically as if I was sitting front row in a movie theater and had to move my head to see other parts of the screen. If I went too far for any one direction I got the black borders etc. It was kinda cool how the women looked 20 feet tall though.

did you happen to look up and see your name?

I keep seeing this. You do realize that Sony has 4 big gaming shows per year right? They kept their entire Fall lineup of exclusives off the show except for TLG.

The majority seem good for 2017 except days gone.

Microsoft won E3. They unified two platforms. They made the bigger impact on gaming. Period.
I disagree. As a PC owner, MS is in a weird limbo with me where I see no need to ever buy their console yet I refuse to use their W10 store on PC. ReCore was incredibly underwhelming and Gears is simply more of the same while Nintendo and Sony are shaking up their core franchises.

Without Steam, MS's so called "platform unification" doesn't really interest me as a consumer. State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves are looking good though.

Overall, I would say that Sony won E3 and Zelda was game of the show.

Given how dismissive the whole industry was of their e3 plans and how things actually panned out: Nintendo won.

Sony had a good showing but that was expected, and for me a little unexciting tbh. But Nintendo? Holy fuck.

What does the winner actually win? Or is it just another excuse for fanboys to wave their dicks on forums?

Thanks for your valuable contribution to this thread, which I am sure ModBot would have closed long ago if he shared your opinion. And the answer you're looking for is indeed bragging rights and having fun, which is sometimes allowed...

Hahaha. That's funny. The ones they've shown for the past 2 years, sure. Anything just announced that isn't a remake won't be out for several years.

Porno company wins it. That line was long.

All those games been on dev over 3 years.

Spider-Man,Days Gone and God of War and Detroit.

Uh, you're buying Monster Hunter and Zelda and FFXV but you don't think you'll like Horizon... even though Horizon takes heavy inspiration from MH and inspiration from the same open world RPGs that Zelda and FFXV are inspired by.

You never watched the E3 demo, did you?

FFXV will be a story focused JRPG. Zelda will be, well Zelda. Horizon will be a western open world RPG. Not sure how they are that similar.

Bit harsh but yeah I cringe when I read anyone saying a game for their console of choice won E3. It makes reading N4G feel like an intellectual piece in the times.

I dont think its any one particular set of fans, but it would be interesting to count them up and see which group are the worst offenders (Joke)....

Seriously, the only people that win E3 is those whose sales in the coming months exceed those that they expected or budgeted before their marketing push.

The winner of E3 should be announced at Xmas, who really did have a good campaign and gained share.

I did vote for porno company just for funs. I think Horizon will sell better for GG than most would of expected when it was announced and they will probably gain new fans, but remains to be seen. I also see Insomniac getting more respect which they deserve imo.

Hardware wise, cant see much difference in fortunes really of the big 3, except for PC gaming will get a bump due to the influx of cheap powerful GPUs.

Minus the combat all three actually look pretty similar to me. Each game looks like it will offer a vast and detailed world to get lost in. Horizon is more of an unknown but that makes it more exciting. With Zelda and FF you pretty much know what you're getting but that's not a problem.

Nintendo

Nintendo won E3 with Zelda. No competition. They're the only one showing a game which had people going nuts, the E3 Zelda demo stampede almost rivals the Wii stampede when it comes to hype and interest. In 2017, WiiU or NX, whatever you have you know you need this game. A true system seller.

Runner up:

Sony continues to impress with the exclusives and just like Nintendo this is their biggest strength. Focusing on the exclusives and not showing Neo was a smart move, at this point you know that you'll really miss our not owning a Sony console. And since they know they can't win the multiplat race anymore with PC and Xbox merging together there is no use in hyping an upgrade, it's smarter to show the games you simply won't ever get to play anywhere else no matter how powerful the other platforms are.

Microsoft did great too, as a platform-holder, they really showed that they're ready for the future however it may look. Scalable 4K and VR ready console and all games and services available on PC too. How do you compete with that? Merging PC and Xbox is seriously the smartest (and most evil?) move ever. No matter how you look at it their games will always be available on the most powerful hardware where the multiplats are the best. The only way MS can fail going forward is by stop making awesome games. And businesswise it should now help them securing more MS exclusives since their userbase for exclusives just got a slight boost when evolving from XB1 into XB1+PC.

Sony was the best!
Can't stop watching trailers of God of War, Spider-Man, Death Stranding, ... over and over.
This was definitely better than last year. Seeing Spiderman finally get a decent developer and GoWIV was enough for me. TLG release date, Kojima, opening with Bend.

The odd moment was the close. Anyone else notice that? I think with what happened in Orlando they may have had another game planned but pulled it for Days Gone gameplay. I've never seen the same game show up twice like that in the same conference. Maybe it was Sucker Punch new IP? Gut tells me they had something else planned to close out but pulled it last minute.

They win more eyes, advertisement, possible game sales, and word of mouth.

Other than the microsoft Xbox PC conference I don't even know what was in that other PC conference with day9. I didn't see PC game trailers like the others. I should probably look that up.

"Bragging rights" lol Fanboy dick waving.. For which there is already too much on here. Some threads become unreadable after a few pages.

It is cringe worthy, and all "sides" are to blame. Although some are more vocal than the rest.

Clearly Zelda won.
Not Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony. Just Zelda.

I kind of feel like this is the big story of this E3. That a game of immense quality can inspire this many people. It just completely dominated my thoughts this year, and many others by the sounds of it.

I wonder if sony will do a similar thing for PSX. Maybe not since they would be better off interacting with the crowd instead of just showing new trailers to them with no communication.

I will say though that I think the entire concept of winning E3 is a stupid one. It's a trade show - some companies will have stronger years than others, and that's absolutely fine.

I love E3, don't get me wrong, but the amount of attention that is dedicated to a "victor" just strikes me as silly. E3 isn't the be all and end all.

I bet a very high proportion of posters who say a company won E3 are invested personally in that ecosystem. Its just confirmation bias.

What would be more interesting is posters saying who they thought did well for games on a platform they are not invested in personally.

So I play Ps4, so I should be saying what interested me from the other non sony conferences.

Zelda: BotW, meaning Nintendo won. The game made such a huge impact, people lining up for hours and hours, people running to get to play the game, the most amount of publicity in social media, the actual game being something totally amazing, blowing people away in awe etc. It only required one game from Nintendo to win the E3, and they did.

EDIT: Sony is pretty close 2nd though as they had lots of games to show and while I personally found most of them somehow dull, for many people there was more than enough quality there.

I keep seeing this. You do realize that Sony has 4 big gaming shows per year right? They kept their entire Fall lineup of exclusives off the show except for TLG.

Exactly. The other part of Sony's E3 is to also acknowledge what they "didn't" show.

1st party-wise. GT Sport, Gravity Rush 2, Bound. 3rd-party wise, Ni-oh, KH2.8. Other indie-first games titles like Abzu, etc. And that aren't even including less popular games like KoF, Star Ocean, etc.

If Sony wanted to sell themselves as having a meaty exclusive lineup for 2H of this year, they have the quantity and quality to do it. They chose not to.

For better or worse, Sony consciously chose to not give any concern to the whole "Sony has nogaems for holidays" narrative and are instead focusing on delivering "wow" moments for E3, even if it means showing games that are a fair bit away.

I didn't feel as impressed by Zelda as everyone else seems to be. It does look really good, but I'm currently playing The Witcher 3, and by comparison I felt like the world looked a little bland and empty. I do really love the art style though, and I'm sure it'll play well - I do like the emphasis it seems to have on physics and fire. On balance I prefer what Horizon is doing though, and I really want to see more of that game world as apparently it has jungles and snowy mountaintops, and so on.

Anyway, Sony 'won' E3 for me. Their conference was superb; I only wish they'd given some time to indies and Japanese games, which would have made it perfect as far as I'm concerned. The orchestra was just delicious icing to the whole thing.

God of War 4: Push forward for cutscene dad simulator with a dumb protagonist, cliche muh parenting emotions direction, and uninspired, scripted combat.
Scalebound: Clumsy faux Monster Hunter co-op focus with bizarrely terrible combat from Platinum Games that seems unappealing in every facet.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Arbitrary loot drop system crammed into an empty open world that technically looks two generations behind the standard.
Battlefield 1: The Battlefield you know and are tired of but at least it has a new WW1 aesthetic*. *wont in any way be historically accurate to WW1
Watch Dogs 2: Le may may trendy hacker adventure penned by clueless hipsters more interested in how their cast looks and fits in rather than authenticity and believably.
Horizon: Developer with a bad track record presents a generioc open world game with quests and leveling and all that other box ticking junk but hey it looks pretty I guess?
Gears of War 4: Remember Gears of War? It's back! And looks exactly like it always has!
Steep / Wildlands: More gems filtered through Ubisoft's patented Open World Game Generator TM.
Mass Effect: Andromeda: We swear our game isn't in development hell!

Sony: Predictably flashy production, tech, and presentation to distract you from how basic and monotonous all the games without release dates actually are.
Microsoft: Here's a bunch of games not exclusive to our console that we had no hand in developing either. Have you heard the good word of Windows 10?
Nintendo: Please buy Zelda.
EA: Said they wouldn't do E3. Didn't do E3.
Ubisoft: Girlwood.

Gamers: Trash
Journos: Trash

E3 2016: Confirmed Trash

All in all a pretty good year. I really liked South Park.

Agree!
There was a rumor that Sony wanted to announce next Red Dead in the end of conference, but after Orlando incident...
I think they wanted to show Days Gone like Horizon (E3 2015). begins with a trailer and then gameplay, but after cancellation a game (Red Dead or another game), they splited Days Gone in 2 parts.

When was last Guardian first shown, though?... Heh

Last Guardian made for a great "gaming story" for us enthusiasts. Of course it sucked that Sony mismanaged the game and people have been waiting years for it, but in the end I really don't mind. Look at Zelda and Horizon. Both got release dates early on, both got delayed in the end. That doesn't make their debut any less memorable.

I expect other things from E3 than a live action version of a press release.
