I just made a post on hogwarts legacy's subreddit about how the is kinda mediocre , it was a little long but it basically said that its level design is simplistic with the exception of the castle , there is no depth to the rpg elements and the best thing about it are the graphics and atmosphere

And in a couple of minutes it got deleted but not before a couple of sensitive people told me to just move on if i dont like it and my criticism is ruining other's experience with the game

seriously ? thats all it takes to make you change your opinion on a game ? my fav game is witcher 3 , no matter how many people say that the combat is crap , exploration is crap or that its not a true rpg , i dont care it will remain my fav game until a better one releases

Is free speech only true when people say what i like and the moment someone says some criticism im like "omg your such a pesimistic person that cant enjoy anything , dont ruin the fun for me "

there will come a time when even reviews will become pointless because you are not allowed to talk about the flaws of a game

Hogwarts can do no wrong.

Their opinion is all that matters. Says a lot about that subreddit and the people there. Probably for the better.

Gaf is full of these people aswell.

You can't criticize shit because you are either trolling, being salty or console warring.

Fuck, if you want an echo chamber of back patting, maybe a public forum is not for you...

I mean, you kinda already touched on why. People don't want to hear that their favorite product has issues. They want to feel secure knowing that they spent their money wisely. Same reason people hate on other platforms. They want to feel smart.

Yeah, but on gaf, we ban those losers.

Era, reddit and twitter you just cant say anything negative nowadays. And then people wonder why gaming is stuck in the 2000s. If no criticism is allowed, how will devs hear it?

but are you truly ever happy this way if other people's opinions matter more than yours ?
its like going to the cinema with 5 friends and i liked the movie but before i get to say my opinion to my friends they all say that it sucked so in my mind i start to hate it aswell , thats not normal behaviour

I don't want that neither, but it's not true, just look at the zelda tiktok topic, every dude who has something to say is salty or it's gonna eat crow very soon...

But then you see the same people shitting on horizon dlc, you can't make this stuff up:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Subreddits can be really strong handed with any kind of criticism that isn't glowing. It just all depends on where you are. Can't say I'm too surprised, unfortunately. But subreddits do typically revolve around people that enjoy a specific thing, especially if it's a specific subreddit. Like... r/ResidentEvilVillage, as opposed to r/Resident Evil for example.

I wouldn't even say that it's only seen in "gamers", it's just seen through out all kinds of internet related communication as far as I know. I don't know if I could really blame some though, especially with the amount of people being really toxic about their own opinions vs others nowadays, lol.

I mean, you went directly to the subreddit for the game. People that frequent it most likely all enjoy the game.
Yeah, exactly. Typically in subreddits when there's a thread where people ask for peoples opinions on something, that goes over fine.

A subreddit is a hive mind. You would have had a better experience on a more general gaming one.

Reddit is only good for news and porn. Anything negative is down voted or deleted.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Not sure. But its highly annoying and leads to complacency.

If Devs/publishers never hear criticism, they'll never push forward and we'll be stuck with the same game design for the next 20 years. Status quo.

Thats why I like and respect devs that don't give a fuck about negative fan reaction. Make the game you want to make. Just have some ambition. Salute to Neil Druckmann and Ken Levine.

so its basically a place to worship a product ignoring all of its flaws

look i get it when you wait for a game a very long time and you want it to succeed and when it releases with alot flaws you are kinda afraid to accept that it sucks because you were invested emotionally for so many years

the same thing happened to me with cyberpunk , after i saw the 1st trailer in 2012 and hearing mike pondsmith describing what kind of game they want to make i was immediatly hooked , i was thinking to myself "this will be the rpg of the decade " , it was hard for me to accept that the game was very mediocre

“Hey guys, I went to r/[thing] subreddit and made a post all about the things that suck about [thing] and it got deleted! What about my freedom of speech!! Why are people so sensitive??”

Come on man. Are you that upset that you needed to make a reassurance thread about it?
yes , reassure me of whatever you think i need reassuring of

Well, it CAN be, at least. It just all depends on the subreddits rules. Hogwarts Legacy's subreddit is probably a lot more strict than other ones considering all the nonsense that revolved around its existence.

I wouldn't get too strung up on it.

Who cares what other people think? I wouldn’t let it bother you. Just move on with your day

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
Perhaps it's because certain ie: a lot of people tie their identity to external stuff like music, movies, videogames you name it. So to criticize something they identify with directly criticizes a part of their very being. When one bases their sense of (group) belonging and derived pleasure from a certain external source, any criticism will directly come across as an attack and thus it's response is emotional based. And we all know how emotional mature some are when it comes to these types of situations.

These days?
The only difference with the "good old days" is that there was no internet back then.
You think the reaction would have been different if there was a Super Mario World subreddit in 1990 and you went there to tell people the game is mediocre?

Given the shit around this game, the sub was likely infested with loads of trolls and allies making shitposts about the game.

If it was kind of a low effort post and you weren't a regular, it's likely they assumed it was one of them.

A subreddit for a specific game is probably the worst place to expect a discussion. The hive mind wins with their up and down vote setup.

i dont know , im a gamer since 1998 and everytime i was capable of talking about the flaws of a game with my friends without one of us getting mad , ofc its not reddit but still i bet even in real life you cant have a proper conversation with these people

Yeah that goes for all focused discussions, those who are negative on Horizon dlc, Starfield, Zelda, PSVR2, Steam Deck, 4090, OLEDs etc are considered salty, trolls, spreading fud or whatever else that is fitting to discredit any concern. It’s just the way things are, hiveminds, clashing preferences, everywhere, from all sides, all the time.

It kinda speaks for itself that subreddits like that are echo chambers. Why even bother engaging in discussions in those places?

Actually, Reddit in itself is an awful place to have discussions. Any place with a 'thumbs up and down' system is.

Large portion of the millennial generation and below grew up without father's in the home. Societal conditioning to be more emotional(feminine) in their behavior.

Someone hurt your feelings on another forum, so you create a thread here complaining about it.

WHO is too sensitive again?
