Baffling me the people who list "controller" was one of the features as if they've held the Xbone controller. Oh but hey, MS made the 360 controller, must be good right?

They said that about New Coke too...and M. Night Shymalan movies...and tons of other shit.

New Coke?

  • 720p is enough
  • Dashboard ads make it easier to decide which games to get
  • I like to talk to my electronics
  • Ryse looks great

I've held the controller, as have many others, and many others have read multiple reviews saying it feels like a refinement of the current controller, plus most people who list it prefer the asymmetrical layout, simple really.

Just to spite the internet.

Seriously, I expect it to be a great system in the long run, in many respects, but for now it's mostly the fact that it already has a fantastic exclusive line-up.

Before life happened I had a XB1 preordered. My reason were
A. Most of my gaming friends are on PC or going from 360 to XB1

B. I think the ability to plug my cable box in and use the XB UI and Kinect to controll my tv is awesome
.
C. I enjoy MS exclusives over Sony

D. In my opinion XB1 has better launch exclusives

But as I said life happened so I had to cancel my preorder :(

Dead Rising 3- I hope its not garbage :/
Killer Instinct
Crimson Dragon - maybe
I've still got another 5 months of Xbox live

Ryse is still a wait and see.

I'm getting both ps4 and xbox one though.

The symmetrical controller hurts my hands after a short period of time. The sticks can be made more resistant, the triggers shaped like the 360s, etc but this doesn't improve the core issue for me. I've owned every iteration of the Dual Shock, including two for the first playstation, and this has been very consistent.

Asymmetric is much, much more comfortable for me. That's going to factor into my purchasing decisions of course.

Well, asides obvious xb1 exclusives reason...

I'm into hardware innovation. Integrated Kinect is something that I'm interested, and am willing to play with. Kinect support will be much more robust this time around, because every single xb1 would come with it. Be it casual game or whatnot, but I will be more easily have fun with my daughter with Kinect.

Sure, I'm buying PS4 on day1 as well - but as soon as when I have some more cash, I'm definitely buying XB1 - probably around 1st price slash. To be perfectly honest, without Watchdog or Drive club on launch lineup, I'm more interested in Ryse, Forza and Deadrising. Right now PS4 line-up is full of fps, which I'm not too into.

As an next-gen hardware wise, I find PS4 incredibly conservative in terms of taking "the concept" of gaming. Basically same thing, with better (best) hardware spec. I wanted something special this time around. At least Xb1 has Kinect built in. WiiU has 2nd screen built in. PS4 has nada. Yes you can connect camera and also do remote play with vita, but having them as "separately bought accessories" will hamper its true potential.

Halo. I'm hoping instead of chasing players w/ CoD gameplay, maybe they'll chase players w/ Destiny and TF gameplay. I'm not sure map control can come back with the way CoD is getting even more popular, especially on the competitive circuit.

Edit: I don't mind Kinect and it took a big setback in this gen for them to make changes. MS has been much more receptive to complaints and won't wait till people start voting with their wallets.

I think the P90X stuff is pretty cool. I'm not planning on getting either system for a while, and the P90X stuff isn't the main draw for me but I think it could be really awesome.

Getting both but for me I think it has more/better exclusives at launch, like the controller more, got friends on Live, and I have an interest in the Kinect.

Mainly Dead Rising 3 and co-op with my buddy, Titanfall in the spring, but I also have a PS4 preordered so I plan to keep that as well. I always have every console at some point, yet I still don't have a Wii U but I expect within the next year I'll take the plunge.

Maybe it is the asymmetrical layout they prefer.

Games. Everything else is just white noise for me until I get the consoles unpacked and set up.

I guess I don't understand why so many people are hell-bent on tearing each system apart before they even launch. Most of GAF likely put less thought into their last car purchase.

I remember having a sh*tload of fun with my launch PS3 back when my only source of gaming info was an EGM subscription and overly chatty game shop clerks.

It wasn't until much later -- upon discovering sites like GAF and DF -- that I realized just how awful, inferior and unplayable my experience had truly been... :P

Exclusives.

I'm not buying one now because the Xbox doesn't appeal to me.

In terms of online, I never have a good experience with the community. I'm not a troll or anything and barely have a bad reputation but sometimes the immaturity.. I happen to meet more chill people on PSN oddly enough. All my friends have an Xbox and I bought one just to see what was so good but I wasn't feeling it. I absolutely love the Kinect so I don't understand the hate, I do love the UI and how user friendly it is, (still prefer Sony just for being simple.. Kind of Apple style but whatevs).. I love party chat and the Avatars. Overall I like the package but MS has a bad stigma that I just can't stand.

However, when I buy an XOne down the line, it will be for exclusives. I'll probably wait 2-4 years before I buy one like I did this gen just because I had a collection to pick through.

Just to add. I agree with the OP on the Xbox bashing lately. I just can't agree it's excessive tbh. I realize I'm new to Gaf but I'm sure some veteran's here can completely agree that Sony and Nintendo had to go through it when they messed up and half the time they still do. I'm sure it was excessive then because it was deserved and it the same here. I really don't understand why we should stop it when it happened to others... So let's be fair here. If MS messed up, I feel its rightfully their turn to have the entire gaming industry dragging them to hell if it takes them to come back better just like Sony. So please, don't stop.

Games are the main reason. I'm really looking forward to Ryse and I really like the Forza series. These's also no way I'm passing up on Halo considering ~75% of the time I spend on my console is playing Halo. I'm also massively excited for Project Spark.

The other main reason is the media features and Kinect. The other 25% of the time I use it is for Netflix so I'm really looking forward to the TV integration because my current box's OS is awful.

There's also very little which interests me on the PS4, the only extra feature which I like is the Vita remote play, but I have no interest in purchasing a Vita so that doesn't apply. I've also never been really interested in PS exclusives. TLOU is the only game which seriously had me wishing I owned a PS3.

Another minor reason is that now PS+ is required for multiplayer. I'm going to keep my XBLG sub for a while to play 360 games and I don't want to pay for two subs at the same time.

Not really much output based on this past gen though? I also find it interesting when people say just prefer Xbox 1st party games a lot more. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but based on this gen, really?

Yes really. We had Kameo, PGR3, PGR4, Gears of War (1,2,3),Forza (2,3,4,Horizon), Halo (3,ODST,Reach,4,Wars), Alan Wake, Mass Effect (was a MS + Xbox property before EA bought Bioware), Fable 2, Viva Piñata (1,2), Banjo Kazooie N&B, Crackdown, Dead or Alive 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 (before Team Ninja went multiplatform), Minecraft,Shadow Complex, Geometry Wars, State of Decay, Toy Soldiers (1,2), Comic Jumper, Splosion Man (1,Ms), Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Ilomilo etc etc. Those are all great games published by Microsoft for the 360...I'm buying an Xbox One based on their track record which is actually pretty good.

Xbox live is a great reason to pick a XB1 over PS4. Im tore personally. I really dont like this kinect business and im not a big TV person. I love my 360. Im going to wait kt out and see what happens. Xb1 interestes me far more than PS4 does at the moment. PS4 launch lineup is terribad.

  • Most of my friends are on Xbox, and will stay with Xbox. And I see no reason to switch to Playstation for my main console.
  • Exclusives. I'm a big fan of the Halo franchise. And even though I hate what 343i has done with Halo 4, I can not not buy Halo 5 or my collection would feel incomplete. Also the possibility of Banjo Threeie ever coming out, keep believing.
  • Familiarity
  • XBL has proven itself to me. Things as party chat, all works. Good download speeds.
  • Controller. Although I haven't used any of the new controllers yet. I prefer the Xbox 360 controller over the DS3. I also prefer asymmetrical stick lay-out over a symmetrical.
  • Kinect intergration
Also this used to be a point for me, sadly it isn't anymore :( Although I understand why.
  • The former DRM policies. It had the benefits of both digital and physical games. With the only downside being that you couldn't freely sell/trade/lend games. But as I never do either of those. It brought only positive changes.

i was gonna say better launch titles but ShockingAlberto is puttin in work on twitter right now against that...damn, Crimson not lookin so hot at the moment, hope they fix that up.

Quantum does look good though, ill wait till after the drop but ill prolly end up with one down the road. that SWERY project also might push me.

Running everything through one input really does sound cool. I'll passthrough my just my cable box because passing through other game systems may add lag. That said, being able to snap TV to my game, or control most of my home theater functions through voice/Kinect sounds really nice.
I am worried about DLNA though. DLNA support on the 360 is trash, and I would love to not have to switch to another system to get it to work right.

There will probably be some sort of synchronization between Metro/RT apps and Xbox apps down the line.

My friends are going with Xbox because of the controller, and I can't blame them.

I'm not a big TV person, but the ease of loading up personal profiles and launching whatever content with minimal faff is a really neat part of the XBone.

Having it there and ready call up anything on the big screen could be great if they can pull off their NUI.

I saw that, no idea what's up with that.
When I played it it was silky smooth, just like on the streams we get from XBLA.

Kinect
brand familiarity
exclusives (don't particularly like PS exclusives)
Xbox Live

I know the system is being billed as underpowered and its policies as anti-gamer, but I honestly couldn't care and really that doesn't even seem to match with what we've seen so far. I mean, im going to be playing Ryse and Forza and a whole host of other great looking exclusives when the thing launches in just a few short weeks, and in a year or two years i'll be playing Halo and Quantum Break and Kinect Sports and whatever other cool games are waiting in the pipeline. all while connected to a service that im more than comfortable paying for because it has proved to be stable and reliable and an overall great way to connect with friends and download games and apps and other such things.

will I enjoy the PS4 through friends and family and who decide to buy one? sure. will I myself buy one some time from now? maybe. im just tired of all the vitriol toward this decision of mine and toward the system in general. it'll be fine, guys. youre really going to wish the thing fails and I lose the investment im going to be making in it on the 22nd and in the coming months? how absolutely childish, irresponsible, and downright shameful and ugly of you.

Exclusives games, love the where the sticks are position on the xbox controller, Kinect 2, and xbox live features. Unless Sony really amazes me with something better than Halo I won't be buying a ps4. That being said I'm still a little ways before jumping into next gen. Just have to see how things go.

For the exclusive games and Kinect; my family loves it. Can't tell you how much fun we had with the first version so I can't wait to get the improved model at home.

I'm going to buy an XB1 the only reason I ever buy any console: exclusives. If it wasn't for exclusive I would NEVER buy any console.

I'm not buying one at launch... but if they end up with enough exclusive titles, I will pick one.

Halo 5 is a good start, TItanfall is apparently (rumored) to be coming to the PS4, but as of now it's exclusive, so if MS can pick up some more good exclusives I have no issues picking it up. I mean that's why we all play right? Good content.

Pretty simple. I'm just all around really excited about the system. There's lots of things that I like about it, ranging first and foremost from the games, to the way the OS looks and works, the awesome manner in which Kinect is integrated with the system, and I'm especially excited about free dedicated servers being offered to game developers. That will simply make online games better, specifically the major sports releases I'm interested in such as Fifa and NBA 2K, which makes me feel better about a Live subscription. I don't think the early releases are taking advantage of that, but that's not a big issue.

More specifically.

Games that I want and can't get anywhere else. That's the first and most blatantly obvious thing, and really the top reason.

-- I won't be able to play the next Halo anywhere else, Halo 4 campaign was my favorite in the franchise.

-- Quantum Break is a must have. I never miss any of remedy's games. I don't plan on starting now.

-- Ryse is the new franchise I'm the most excited about at launch. In fact, it's pretty much at the top of my most wanted games at launch list.

-- Dead Rising 3 looks like it's going to be incredibly fun, possibly even the most pure fun launch exclusive. I foresee many hilarious moments being dedicated to this game.

-- Forza Motorsport 5. It fell off my list for a bit, but it's right back on there. I'll probably buy this launch game after I get the others since I'm more excited about the other launch titles, but it's definitely something I see myself picking up.

-- Crimson Dragon is my panzer dragoon game at launch. Not missing it.

-- Killer Instinct looks incredible. In fact, it has been pretty damn surprising in how good it has looked from the outset. No way I see myself not picking this one up.

-- Project Spark. No explanation required. Go watch the videos. :)

-- Titanfall. Oh, you knew this was going to be in there somewhere, didn't you?

The last two games will be available on PC, too, of course, but I prefer to pick them up for the Xbox One.

My other reasons are simply a combination of features and services that I honestly don't see being offered in the same fashion on any other platform.

I'll grab a PS4 also, possibly early next year, but for now the lineup at launch isn't quite as exciting as what's available for the Xbox One. The primary game that would have likely pushed me to keep my ps4 pre-order was Watch Dogs, and that game was pushed off. It was specifically the multi-platform release (at launch anyway) that I was most looking forward to comparing between the two systems.

Summary: There's no single reason that I want the Xbox One. It's a number of things, but the biggest draw, if you were looking for one, is the games lineup.

huh, just looked up that workout stuff...P90X & Insanity coming to XB1 is pretty cool, kinect could actually be useful there. i imagine you'd have to buy the programs on top of Gold though?

I saw that, no idea what's up with that.
When I played it it was silky smooth, just like on the streams we get from XBLA.

yeah, maybe it was just that guy's particular unit? he said his was running fine, video came from the one next to him. gotta wonder if that unit is troubled or not vented properly or something.

Maybe they have? I've played the XB1 on multiple occasions.

Any I'll be getting all consoles. I buy consoles because I like good games.

I've elaborated and recanted some of my wording on top of having a small exchange with Flash via PM. He was modest and adult enough to PM me and I respect that.

But yeah, LiquidMetal and I are good. Just a little bit of confusion but we've gotten it all sorted out.

I've held both new controllers. Xbox still wins hands down. Opinions and whatnot. But don't let that stop you from fighting your little war.

Ill keep it short and sweet.

1. The X1 exclusive at launch are more appealing to me.

2. The Media functionality sounds freaking awesome.

3. Love the UI and the integration with Kinect.

4. The controller is sex in my hands.

5. Killer Instinct is sex on the screen.

6. referencing the 2 above... I like sex.

I will get a PS4 eventually, but given that I had to change jobs and don't have 1 grand to drop just for both consoles, its the X1 first.
