Skyzard ....
No, I don't even know what to say. I love your enthusiasm for Tearaway, which I share, but for the other stuff?? Come on. You're basing your impression of the game on what one "negative" reviewer (which gave the game a 9?!) said, and that makes you feel you're in a position to determine which is the best goty candidate objectively?
It's funny how you then go on to say you 'don't base your assessment on games on critical reception'.
One day you'll realize how silly that makes you come off. Until that day comes, I see no need for further discussion on the matter.
It just isn't on a popular platform, no way it will win GOTY. Handheld gaming devices just aren't popular atm. It has all (and more of) the jazz and presentation value (among other things) to make it compelling to a wide variety of people in the west (which is what people in this thread were saying is necessary to win GOTY), it just isn't going to reach them so it's hard to give it such an award. Handheld GOTY though? Certainly.
It seems to me that you're arguing that Tearaway is a GOTY contender not because it's a great game but because its presentation is good for a hand-held game, despite the fact that just about every major console game beats it in that department this year? And that that's the sole reason it deserves to be portable GOTY over ALPW? Not a very good argument. It's kinda funny that the reason you're arguing that Tearaway should be portable GOTY is the very same thing keeping it from being declared GOTY.
Maybe they should just rename it to "Interactive Experience of the Year" or something -- as "Game of the Year" implies (to me, at least) that the game play be rock solid and it's often not among contenders and winners.
Your sort of post is the reason why I put '(among other things)' in brackets after that and explained why I was talking about presentation quality specifically - others were mentioning that as being the reason why handheld games don't win. It's a really great game for a whole bunch of reasons, not to worry!
To be fair, NeoGAF is as guilty of this as anyone. Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, and Journey are 3 of our last 4 winners, with The Walking Dead, Skyrim, and Red Dead Redemption as runners up over that span. Though at least we have the excuse of a popular vote naturally boosting the best-selling titles.
Handheld games run on less powerful hardware, they're generally stripped down versions of their console counterparts, and overall tend to be inferior experiences.
There's no real mystery about it.
I'm confused - is OP referring to Spike VGA show ?
Handheld games never win on GAF either. Console games are just, on average, betterprettier games.

I'm still baffled as to why this guy hasn't been perma banned yet. His one of the biggest fanboys on this forum. This post is by far the most ridiculous yet. We all know he has spent zero time playing a 3DS game, yet he use so much energy to tell us that x vita game is better than x 3ds game in pretty much every thread I see him in, without ever having touched a 3ds title.Hey Robo!
I know what Zelda is. It's not mind blowing or new in basically any way. It's safe to say I know what to expect from it. A reviewer who gave it 9/10 also said he felt it was incredibly disappointing if that makes you feel better but I have read many other impressions on it too.
I don't try and base any of my personal preferences on critical reception and I don't need to play or buy a game to have an opinion on it.
Tearaway blows it the fuck away, try and shush me all you want.
People in this thread are talking about how graphics and presentation plays a big part in GOTY and so it won't go to a handheld title clearly haven't played Tearaway, so OP is kinda right, it's a lot to do with popularity and what the masses own for the main award and dedicated handhelds aren't popular in the west atm with this crowd.
Tearaway, an original game with actually stunning presentation, design and polish isn't going to get it.
If people are going to make an argument for why a handheld game should get GOTY then there is not much wrong in putting forward the best candidate so a more accurate discussion can take place.

I'm a huge Zelda fan and think this game is the best since LttP, but my answer to your question is "no." Realistically, if you've played LttP, you've played this game. Variations in story aside, the whole structure and world of the game basically just makes it a LttP remake.
There's nothing wrong with that, I've loving the game. I can't get enough of the orchestrated soundtrack, either. But there's nothing appreciably new in it. And I'd never buy a console solely to play a remake of anything.
Definitely LTTP. It still holds up very well today. It is longer and harder than ALBW.
You still haven't fucking played the game, and your views are always heavily one sided (everything Sony is best), but you still constantly get away with your bias. Congrats to that I guess. I've never seen you trying to argue that a none Sony game looks better than a Sony game. Jees, I guess why.Your crap aside, just today in the official thread:
Is it so shocking that I would know what to expect from the title after numerous other posts in the thread, video playthroughs, it being heavily based on older styles of gameplay and lots of reviews etc. Yeesh.
You say this when there's games that have SP tacked onto their multiplayer, which is almost always entirely the opposite when it comes to handhelds.

What, why is my post being quoted here out of context? Are you suggesting my post in the other thread backs up your claim that LTTP and ALBW are the same game or ALBW doesn't offer anything new over LTTP? Man, that's some serious twisting of words...

I think they really should be able to.
In my opinion, these all deserve to be contenders for their respective year:
Link's Awakening
Pokemon Red/Blue
Advance Wars
Mario Land 2
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
Link Between Worlds
I've never felt a handheld game has been worthy to receive GotY over console or PC games. Remakes and enhanced versions don't count. A lot of people need to get over the fact that most media outlets will never think ALBW, ACNL, SMT4, etc. are better than TLOU, GTAV, etc, and move on. I also agree with the media outlets.
MH3U is on Wii U for that 60" action. And it's 1080p, so almost exactly what you'd get if there was a PS4 version, because Capcom don't graphics this series.which I also thought about when looking through my game collection on the 3DS. Is MH3U still great? Of course. But it would be GREATER on the Vita or even BEAST MODE on the PS4!
