why can't we have serious gaming polls in this forum?

Should GAF have serious gaming polls on this forum?

Results are only viewable after voting.
Wow that's a lot of votes for the joke answer. Didn't expect that many.

Spoiler
the mods rigged it

Yes, I voted no, but in my defence that was before Thor 2: The Dark World was an option, and I also did it for the lulz and because I am anxious about the economy

LMAO these polls are awesome.

being honest, I find the Thor meme kind of boring but all these polls made me laugh, whoever in the mod team did them, I encourge them to continue in their path.

specially the one with the Drinky Crow cat as an answer.

Really there's just not a ton of value to polls beyond satisfying people who really urgently need to know how many people agree with their side of whatever console war battle is currently being fought. We've experimented occasionally with threads that used polls to try to cut down on some of the "+1" noise and leave more room for discussion, which sort of worked but just required too much babysitting.

So they end up just getting used for pointless nonsense.

I used to think "Thor 2: the Dark World" had been run into the ground, but now I get a kick out of the people who get pissy about it being totally unfunny.

It's like that comedy rule of repetition. Repeat something a couple times, it's funny. Repeat it more and it's not funny. Repeat it EVEN MORE and it goes back to being funny.

I too thought it had been run into the ground, and still do 90% of the time. Then another one will come along and even though I know it's coming I still laugh.

first, thanks for addressing the question in the OP.

that being said, is it really that hard to find a particular context in which a poll could make things interesting, or at least enhance a particular topic or discussion? come on guys be creative

I really think we regulars shouldn't be able to create polls, just the mod team. that way we wouldn't have to deal with troll, silly polls like "In a scale from 1 to ∞ how unfinished was FFXV at the time of its release?" but a poll in which the options are quantifiable and that make an apples-to-apples comparison, would it really be bad for discussion?

like others have said, I'd rather see the results (as in, the opinions of GAF users) right away in the poll than scroll several pages of no discussion with single-worded posts and then read less pages but filled with posts actually worth reading.

I think certain topics, specially those presented as a multiple-choice questions, would be better off with a poll. I am not saying a poll a day is required, just on a case by case basis.

It was funny at first but it got old. I mean this is the place that got rid of gif avatars and emjios because of them just being responses but this is ok?

I..just..

Why Thor: The Dark World of all things?

Because it isn't the worst movie ever made, it is just the best at being mediocre and forgettable. It is the MCU at its laziest.

Because who really gives a flying fuck about forum polls?

Thats just hyperbole. Thor: The Dark World was mediocre at best. Very by the numbers imo.

Thor 2 however was absolute rubbish, way worse than Thor 1.

Thor 2 is a movie you watch because you want to "catch them all." You don't want to miss an MCU movie when the big ensemble one comes out. You might miss a crucial stinger! There might be an infinity stone at the center of its plot! Its events might get referenced in other MCU movies and you don't wanna be out of the loop when you miss an easter egg!

But never, based on its own merits, would you ever want to watch Thor 2.
