People can enjoy what they want, however I am truly baffled sometimes how people can play what is essentially the same games over and over again.
I am thinking of '' franchises '' like Assassins Creed.
I can kinda understand CoD because it's an online game same with fighting games but I really have no clue how anyone can still have an interest in franchises like Assassins Creed or how people can put up with literally rehashed assets and blatant rip-offs like with sports games.
Like you've gotta have some standards at least when you're basically being ripped off and when game franchises should've ended a billion years ago and are just being milked into oblivion I do begin to wonder...
I also think that most people aren't that invested in games they just view them as time wasters akin to watching TV or reading books.
So they just see a game in a commercial which is mostly going to be the huge titles from big AAA studios and then just consume.
They don't really look outside of that they're not enthusiasts and a lot of them still view a lot of things as '' for icky nerds '' and will only play things that pander to that normie mindset.
They're fine with CoD because it's a military dudebro game but they see games that have basically any sliver of fantasy in them as '' for nerds '', maybe they'll go as far as Skyrim in some cases but that's about as far as they'll go.
It's the same with movies too, people are kinda sheepish and don't really want to be challenged whether it's a matter of actually having to use their brains or actually having to try something a bit outside of their comfort zone.
Most people don't realize how many amazing foreign films they're missing out on and refuse to watch them because reading subs requires a bare minimum of effort and they're '' too slow not enough explosions ''.
There's countless of movies like Parasite and Old Boy out there but people won't watch them unless they blow up by chance and big outlets starts marketing them.
People want to be told what to play and watch they don't want to search for it themselves.
And what they're told to play and watch will be whatever the money is behind.
Just play the games you want to play.
The industry is big enough to cater for all tastes.
This "them and us" situation happens with films. literature, music. Its really not worth getting angry about, as long as the choice to play, read, listen or watch that less popular media is still there.
I agree with you however I think that a lot of people feel like the industry is too small in what it covers.
The problem is that the industry doesn't really cater to all tastes at least not outside of indie games and even in indie it's a bit stale too imo.
And when we look at AAA it's basically only catering to one sensability and type of gamer and no one else.
And often times if the games are foreign they become compromised when brought over to be closer to that so we often can't even have that.
Same with remakes and remasters they're often watered down to be more samey with '' current day gaming ''.
