Why haven't you bought a vita yet?

I own a PSP and 3DS already, if the Vita had a real Call of Duty, Diablo 3 and NBA 2k i would seriously consider it.

I'm about to buy but people here reckon there will be some announcement about a price drop at gamescom... so I'm going to wait until august.

But in def buying one. I don't get the argument it has no games because from the list I seen the other day on here Vita has loads of games. I have about 10 games on + waiting for me and this will last me about a year by itself.

I can't help think theres a certain amount of hive-mind or group hysteria regarding the Vita here. No one will buy b/c everyone is waiting on others to jump first. I mean I don't find the console that expensive only the memory cards and games are well discounted on + if not free. Plus you can get really good deals on + itself by looking around. I got a one year sub for £19.00. What's that.. about 15 dollars?

Recently I night my wife a 3ds xl and I'm so not impressed. The hardware is cheap and it's the same bloody Nintendo franchise all over again bar some good 3rd party. No Vita is where it's at for me.

The system and memory cards need a price cut. There are games that I really want to play but I can't justify spending that much for it.

Not cheap enough for me yet.
The memory prices are far too high for too little. Get it bundled with a good sized one for a fair price and I might be interested.
Not many games that interest me (but have some stuff queued on plus in case I do get one in future).

I think price has little to do with the console just not having any must have games that really scream at you to go out and buy. You can save your paycheck for three months so you can afford the console, but there's little you can do to get those games you really want since western third party publishers just don't want to invest.

I guarantee you the system can go for $400 and sell well if there are some really impressive and immersive experiences that can't be found elsewhere. Sony just doesn't want to take the huge risk on money-hatting a third party or investing a boatload themselves.

Of course reducing the price of Vita to a bargain bin $100 will see sales go through the roof for a few months. But when all the new adopters get bored of their impulse purchase and don't have any really amazing titles on the horizon the console will just leave a huge hole in Sony's pockets and will likely be relegated to paper weight for most folks. Also, Sony's target demographic, 18-35-year-olds, generally have more money to burn than parents who want to get their kids an affordable handheld.

That's what happened to the Game Gear. The price-cuts just couldn't make third parties interested in the console again because most parents already made their choice with the sub $100 Game Boy.

Had Vita received the price-cut last summer, back when publishers sort of cared, maybe it might have made a difference. I think at this point, only a re-design of the hardware and a major third-party title will really drive sales, not price cuts.

I got one at launch, been collecting dust ever since I finished Gravity Rush.

Its not that the games are missing, I just think they are too little to satisfy a diverse range of gamers, plus I think it seriously lacks a killer app.

I mean there is absolutely no reason to pick up a Vita right now...Maybe the PS4 integration thing might change its fortunes.

Because of my experiences with the psp. It was imo a great system but it just didn't fit into my lifestyle, the only time I really played it was on holidays (vacations) as I would always opt for the pc/xbox/ps3 when at home.

I can't see how this would change with the vita.

Would rather get a PS4 Or a second PS3 than a vita. The vita games tend not to be as pick up and play as 3DS games. More like home console games, which I prefer to play on big screen

The lack of a vita exclusive franchise that is a killer app and doesn't appear on PS3.

For me it's:

1. Price, despite being the most powerful handheld ever made its to expensive when you need to have a freaking memory card to boot games up.
2. Expensive memory card prices, I mean Holy moly. Sony is making a killing with their memory cards but. Hey are to darn expensive compared to micro SD cards a.
3. Lack of big IP's like GTA as an example is what is holding me off to buy a Vita.
4. Oled burn-in, despite the glorious screen I keep hearing that it suffers from burn-in which is sad.

So if Sony fixes all this problems I will buy a Vita.

Not enough games for me to justify the price just yet. I'll probably revisit the Vita once the PS4 gets closer to coming out. Vita looks to be positioning itself as a mobile indie powerhouse and the remote play feature is intriguing as well.

Only game I'm interested in is Tearaway. Well, and Muramasa - but I've already played that about 4 years ago.
Meanwhile, the 3DS I've bought one year ago is in constant use since then, so I'm set already.

Not enough exclusive games and I already have a 3DS, on which I can never hope to play all the good games that are coming.

If Sony doesn't give a shit about it, why should I?

You've got a high price, a veritable wasteland of must-have exclusives, and an uncertain at best future. You figure Sony has to drop the price and bankroll some huge games for it to give it a chance, but they won't do either so you figure it's well and truly fucked. And that's not even getting into the proprietary memory cards, which just smack of Hirai-style classic Sony arrogance. "Oh, but the sticker price is lower! The consumers are so dumb, they'll never notice!" Fuck off with that.

Meanwhile 3DS is killing it with incredible games all the time, and tons more on the way... I can barely keep up. Not to mention the Wii U's strong holiday lineup and new platforms, Battlefield, GTA, and whatever else have you, and the answer is basically: there's too much other good stuff to spend my money on before the Vita even crosses my mind.

Would you consider one? What can sony do to convince you to buy one?

I don't think that Sony can do anything to get me buy one, because most likely I would just pass it forward even if I got one for free. I usually carry a smartphone and a tablet with me, so next to those Vita is an obsolete device that wouldn't add anything or have any use in my daily life.

memory cards are far too expensive, as I'd be fully digital.

Will get one sometime no matter what though, it's an amazing device.

Screen burn in
If there is a possibility of burn in, I am out, Games HUD and burn in are a bad combination and I tend to leave things on pause for long periods.

I can't justify the price considering how much i will use the thing. Same goes for wii U and 3DS so far and will probably be the case for the other next gen consoles. I no longer have the time to play all of the consoles anymore.

The games available don't justify the price. Will need to get a PS4 first for it to realise it's true potential, so might as well wait till I buy that and the Vita should be cheap by then.

For me its the games and then price, the PSP has spoiled me with what to expect of games for the next Sony handheld and I'm still holding out for the next PW, Dissidia, BBS and etc. As much I find Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice really interesting, they aren't enough for me cough up the cash that Sony wants especially those memory cards.

Memory cards. £55 for 32gb? And that's on a very good day on Amazon. A pricecut of the system won't help, because if if they officially drop it to £150 (which a couple of places sell it at anyway), you still have to add the memory card price on top. £150 with a 32gb card? Bring it on.

I have one but honestly sort of regret buying it.

Mainly because there are too many port and almost no original games. And then we have something like Uncharted which is just a lesser part of the PS3 games...feels like I'm playing an overall worse version of the game, which is understandable due to hardware and such.
Gravity Rush was amazing, though.

If I knew what I know now, I would have bought a 3DS instead.

Edit: The "inferior version syndrome" happens with many other games too like Stranger's Wrath, Jak collection ( just installed it and it's terrible on the vita ), r&c, and others. I just feel like developers who aren't indie don't give a shit about the vita, so we get shitty ports all around.

Almost entirely due to the price of a 32GB memory card.

There was a bundle for the console, LBP or All-Stars Battle Royale and a 4gb memory card for £140 which was a little tempting but no good for my PS+ games, a 32GB card would have put the price above £200 and I'd have to add Persona 4 on top of that.

They've started pre-loading the smaller memory cards with games which is a great idea, if they did the same for the bigger ones (just with more/better games) I may consider buying one.
That said at this point I may as well wait for an eventual hardware re-design, price-drop or limited edition console (or theoretically a PS4 and Vita bundle but I couldn't afford that at the moment).

I suppose it's worth adding that without PS+ I wouldn't consider buying one at all.

I'm just not into mobile/handheld gaming. I'm definitely more of a home theater/50 inch TV/comfy couch kind of guy.

I'll admit though, the Vita is intriguing from a hardware perspective. It seems pretty powerful, but like I said...I'm just not into handhelds.

The best feature is the lock button. No reason to leave anything running and using the battery.

i had one and i sold it after the E3.

the E3 was my last straw for the VITA. i only wanted Killzone and FFx from that list. and i can have FFx on PS3.

i would buy another one when there are actually games for it that i want. its really a nice system.

keep in mind i never took my system to play outside. kinda weird for a 30+ years old to do so. mainly because its not a phone.

i always bring my HTC One / iphone 5 and use it public without an issue.

Is it the price on the vita system?

No the pricing is fine, though a price drop wouldn't hurt

The high memory card prices for small size cards?

The memory card price is one of the biggest factor that's putting me off, I don't want to pay £59.99 for a 32GB Memory card and quite frankly I think it's ridiculous, especially when you need a memory card to play the games.

Is it because you think it lacks games?

Yes the Vita still lacks that big game that you can only find on a Vita

Too many port not enough originality?

Yes.

What can sony do to convince you to buy one?

Drop the memory card price, release more games that aren't ports or indies and release an add that allows me to play my physical PSP games.

I don't think they're arrogant. I just think they misread the market massively and are letting it quietly die. Sony doesn't pull the plug on systems quickly.

It's pretty telling when your AAA in house devs decide to ignore it tho lol.

I find portable gaming systems too awkward to use.

Or, maybe I'm just too awkward at using them? However you describe it, I've never been comfortable using them. I do get tempted from time to time, but then remember I have a GBA SP, DS lite, and DS XL that I have barely used even though they have awesome games.

It looks like a beautiful and powerful piece of hardware and I don't mind the memory cards. For me, it's all about one fact: There are no games that interest me.

$250 price on sale.

Memory cards ridiculously expensive.

I download all the Vita games on PS+, waiting for the day the console gets a mega price cut.

Also I don't have time for another console after the 360, PS3, Wii U, iPad.

It's quite interesting that UK folk are still complaining about the price, when there's been a stealth price drop: Vita + 8Gb memory card + 10 downloadable games to fill said memory card has an RRP of £169.99.

8GB is nothing and will fill up fast, beside the 10 downloadable games don't interest me and is too pricey for my liking.

Just interested to hear from those that haven't bought one, what is putting you off owning one?

Is it the price on the vita system?
The high memory card prices for small size cards?
Is it because you think it lacks games?
Too many port not enough originality?
Not enough ports?
Are you considering one but need that push?

Or a different reason?

Would you consider one? What can sony do to convince you to buy one?

I think it lacks games that I personally am interested in, that's a completely different subject to the more inflammatory 'it lacks games'. I'd have to see more RPGs, SRPGs etc like we had on the PSP before I pick one up. Also the memory card situation- that's stopping me buying one on principle.

Ports don't bother me, and I don't understand why they would do anyone else- as long as they aren't stopping the games I want being made, what is the problem? I don't buy 98% of the content on any system I own, why would I rail against the release of something I'm not interested in? More power to someone's elbow if a port of something they love is hitting a handheld they own.

The price for the unit and memory cards is what's holding me back. I want one, and I will get one eventually (especially since it's going to make a great PS4 accessory).

I bought a Vita on day one. I enjoyed some games on it, and the fact that it has a proper online, tied to a network and account system which is also tied with my PlayStation 3 feels good. I appreciate the technology, its a beautiful handeld.

The problem is that after 2 months it started collecting dust, and i would find myself just playing my Ps3.

Last week i bought a 3DS XL with Luigi's Mansion 2 and Animal Crossing New Leaf, and im having a blast....the kind of blast i never experienced on Vita. I have at least 4 other exclusives that i want to buy in the next weeks. Sure, it is less powerful, but the games make the difference. It just clicked. I love how "gamey" it feels, and how it doesnt feel redundant.

The Vita just needs more exclusives unique to it, in my opinion. More Soul Sacrifice kind of games.
