Why is Niagara Falls, USA such a dump?

Canadians burned my passport
Lol yeah, I worked at target in the falls, fucking tour busses full of Canadian's would come by every day to blow up target. Then they would litter the parking lot with bags and boxes so they would not have to pay taxes when they crossed back over the border. They can't litter in Canada so they just did it here. Living there gave me a irrational hated of Canada lol.

I put my bags in the garbage :p

Also we bring in tons of money to Buffalo's economy which it sorely needs.

Which is greatly appreciated. Believe me. But there is an epidemic in parking lots where people do not clean up after themselves.

Epidemic is pretty hyperbolic lol

Yeah I hear about that too. You guys need like big red dumpsters in the Walden Galleria parking lots.

Buffalo is literally one of the ugliest cities in the world. I've gone to enough Bills games over the years (bills suck BTW GO COWBOYS!) to see what a trashy place it is. Ralph Wilson is also the uglist stadium in the world. Great tailgating though. Hillbillies know how to drink and party.

People underestimate the power of MarineLand.
lol

I find the Canadian side kind of depressing in its own way, such a blatant tourist/casino trap that it feels really gross. The falls themselves are literally the only reason to go.

Well since WWE Niagara Falls closed:p

I think its like that because people tried making money off of it for many decades and didn't care about the long term effects, and now its in a down cycle until someone upcycles it.

For those that need visual descriptions, I'll take some shots!

NF, NY is a shit hole.
Ever seen back to the future the one with the casino ( being vauge on purpose) its like that. There was this one nice looking building i think was a casino and its surrounded by nothingness.

The American side doesnt have a good view of the falls that alone is huge. Although you can go near the bottom of the american falls which is pretty cool. They give you a poncho and u walk up the the falls.

taking 104 through Niagara falls, ny is like driving throuhh fallout3. buffalo sucks and my only good experience was clubbing at hush till 4.

First off, this is not a hate thread about all of USA, so those with panties in a bunch can relax. There are some beautiful places in the States, Niagara Falls isn't one of them.

It seems every time I cross the border from the Rainbow or Peace Bridge, I feel like I drove into some Zombie infested Post-Apocalyptic wasteland.

We're talking, broken roads, abandoned stores, broken and rotting gas stations, houses, 7-UP signs from the 70s etc...

You'd think that a highly visible area where so many Canadians cross to shop and sightsee would be better looked after. It's damn near depressing when I cross that border
Until I get to fashion outlets, then it's shop shop shop till I drop...

the view from the Canadian side is the only view tourists like when viewing Niagara Falls which is why the US side is pretty much neglected and the Canadian side is maintained for tourism

If the American side was smart they would provide reasonable rates for hotels and surround/fill the area with exciting things for people to do. I know the reason why the Canadian side is preferred is because they have the view, and that can't be helped. But the American side has done nothing to put up a fight. It's mismanaged as fuck and it's depressing.

Although I live on the West Coast now, Upstate New York was my home for over two decades, and the Buffalo/Niagara area for 3 years. was born in Utica.

Upstate New York is one of the most gorgeous areas that I've seen in the world overall, and I've seen a lot of nice places in the world. The colors, the foliage, the rolling hills, the towns, the wildlife, the mountains, four beautiful and different seasons, no natural disasters to speak of (outside of blizzards)...

...however, there are a few ugly spots like the Buffalo/Niagara area.

There are a lot of reasons why the place looks run down but we can't underestimate the fact that Buffalo was the hub of a lot of mafia abuse. Not all cities can survive the overall mismanagement that would come from a mafia-run town for decades. Lots of money was put into the wrong places for a very long time. Lots of old money establishments and connections have to die.

Until money starts to go back where it should, Buffalo/Niagara will look like this.

Utica is pretty terrible itself :(

I'm from Rome originally. Another city in the dumps.

Poor Upstate NY.

The Canadian side soaked up the tourist dollars (Niagara Falls Canada is basically a theme park at this point)

I live here and that is not even close to accurate. There is one tiny section of a couple blocks and one main road that is like a theme park and the rest is a normal city. If you came to Niagara Falls and only saw Clifton Hill, sure it might seem like a theme park.

as i recall, the Canadian side has the only decent views of the falls, which are on the American side. Even Americans go to the Canadian side to see them, suggesting that the flow of traffic is typically near the best views.

The horse shoe falls are most certainly not on the American side. It goes across between them, but you can get much closer on the Canadian side.
