Wii U Virtual Console - News and Releases

Yea long time nintendo supporter.. I've owned every home console at launch.. Making me wonder if this company has any clue at all how to satisfy their user base.

Really? Mario world is the only relevant title that's new? A game we all played and beat years ago that came free with an SNES.

Where's my 3rd party titles? wheres my first party titles such as Super Metroid, or mario kart How about a real list of N64 and GAMECUBE GAMES!!

So many great gamecube games i'd buy for 14.99
n64 9.99
Snes 7.99
Nes 4.99

Sounds about right. Even Virtual console games on GBA or DS etc they could put on there with off screen support and garner lots of attention.

Nintendo you're doing it wrong. Hire some NEW people with new ideas.. Man it pisses me off they're so dumb in this regard.

Best game maker in the world imo make some of the dumbest business decisions.

This isn't your problem. I have none of the four games released downloaded to my WiiU or SD Card but it still shows the discount. So I really don't know why it charged you...are you sure you transfered?

Its really your own fault. It said $8 you shouldn't have purchased it. :P
I think you're misunderstanding my post. I haven't downloaded anything yet, I was just looking for a best practice on how to upgrade SMW "correctly."

So that being said, I shouldn't need to go into Wii mode and re-DL first then? I did the transfer last weekend, so in theory, the pricing should be correct. If that's not the case, I'll definitely report back this evening.

..Super Metroid is coming in a few weeks for 30c

that's great and all i just used that game because the 30 second teaser has it on it.

There's literally hundreds of other games i could have listed instead.. Just pisses me off they're making such a shitty list to start.. what are we going to get 2-3 games a week like before? They need to start adding 10+ games a week. 1-2 games per system isn't hard.

2 Nes, 2 Snes, 2 n64, 2 gamecube 2 Indie games..

Hell they can even have the most popular Wii titles moved to digital download.

To be fair, the indie games are self-published. Like retail digital downloads, I believe they can come out at anytime. For the rest, yeah, pretty much.

2-3 games per week wouldn't be bad, if they actually come out. The 3DS VC can go weeks without anything showing up. :/

Except for the prices being higher than I'd say, I agree with all of these points. Wii U VC should be an expansion of systems already available on Wii VC. Where are Sega Saturn games? Dreamcast games? Wonderswan games? Gameboy Player versions of games?

I think Sony is doing it right - 98% emulation is close enough, and if a game breaking bug happens because of use of a universal emulator, id it with miiverse and fix it later.

Price wise, I would think NES games in the 1-3 dollar range, Gamecube games 5-15, and Wii games 5 - 20.

Yes. Your "Wii" in your Wii U is where the eShop looks for existing games...so if it was a game that was not in your internal storage of your Wii at the time of Wii -> Wii U transfer, then you need to re-DL inside of the "Wii" mode - then go to the eShop. The discounted price should now show.

I thought they all were supposed to be 30 cents? fake hype.

What? It's always been pretty clear the promotion ones are the only ones that will be 30 cents. ie, these ones:

Make it 10-15 dollars for GameCube games and 15-20 dollars for Wii games and it's good.

Also, Nintendo isn't the one who's doing the emulation for third-party systems. Sega does it for Genesis/Game Gear/Master System games, Hudson (-_-) does it for Turbografx-16 games, SNK does it for Neo Geo games, etc. Nintendo can't control what they want to do, so if you want their systems on the Virtual Console, you need to talk to the third parties.

That's kind of weird. I assumed that it would just check your Wii Shop Channel purchase history, not look for the game ROMs themselves.

Poor TG-16, I think we can assume Konami will let that catalog die with the Wii VC. Sucks fucking balls. I need to download more TG-16/CD games before the service suddenly dies.

please don't suggest $15 for gamecube games. $10 or less has been standard for ps2 rereleases on psn (aside from san andreas for some reason, which pissed a lot of people off). i will cry many tears if they charge more than $10.

i will still buy at literally any price though :'(

i really want to know whats going to happen after Donkey Kong, they should really have a 30 cent game every month , since there are lots of games on the wii u vc that will be coming from the wii vc, just put some at 30 cents.

Hell do a 30 cent zelda 1 when Link to the past 2 releases.

If it just did that, then there would be no point in going through Nintendo's entire transfer process. They rely on several things for their "security" - your account purchase history, your hardware, and probably some kind of key that's stored on your hardware (Wii) - so you have to do the transfer in order to legitimize what you've previously purchased.

Don't look for anything to make sense when it comes to Nintendo, online, and purchasing digital content.

Yeah, while the SEGA games may show up eventually, the TG-16 games don't seem to have a bright future on Wii U, specially since they announced them for 3DS VC before Konami bought Hudson, and nothing has happened since then.

There really should be 50-100 games out at launch. At a minimum, 30 or so. Even if they're not necessarily great games, give people the chance to buy them.

so japan got "Super Ghouls'n Ghosts" and the arcade version of "Xevious"?
good to hear that 3rd parties and "VC arcade" seem to be on board already

I bet they are afraid that 3rd parties on eShop would complain that Nintendo was "sucking all the air out of the room." if they were that aggressive with VC releases every week. Plus they think that they can sell more in the long term by focusing on one or two releases a week since people will not be tempted to just buy their favorite out of the lot and forget the rest.

I'm still trying to figure out what's holding Sony up from releasing Spyro and Crash Bandicoot on Vita. Is it a marketing decision like Nintendo, or some kind of legal trouble.

If you transferred your games from your Wii to your Wii U and you're not getting the discount, the only possibility I can think of is that the country in your Wii U is not set to the same one as the one the original Wii was set to.

Either that, or a bad glitch.

Or the games weren't actually transferred. If you launched your games off of SD, you need to go back into your virtual Wii in the Wii U and re-download.

So, there is no way to get the discounted price if you didn't transfer to the Wii U, correct? I haven't transferred my games over from my Wii and don't really want to. I wouldn't mind grabbing SMW for the pad but I'm not paying $8 again. I hope there is a way to get the discount in the future without transferring but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Correct. The only way to tie your Wii purchases to your WiiU is through the transfer.
There's no unified account system so there's no way your WiiU knows what you've bought for your Wii.

Haha, don't event think about it. The only way you'll be able to get Jon transferred games you own on the game pad is after someone hacks the Wii U to pieces and we're able to run all sorts of stuff via the game pad.

I went into the eShop today forgetting what the lineup was exactly and was once again aghast at how utterly terrible the lineup is. I seriously cannot believe how they could have screwed up this badly. Six months into the system's lifecycle and they launch with six NES games (most of which have already been a part of this $.30 promotion) and two SNES games (one of which was part of the $.30 promotion).
