Will you buy x720 and ps4 day 1.

Absolutely! Most likely both. You know I've always been "XBox first!" but I could not see myself owning the next MS console without also owning a PS4.
Yep. The next generation might be the last generation before Apple takes over the world. I will do my duty.

Xbox, I would. After a break from consoles between Dreamcast and 360 I'm really back into them, sure I don't like paying for Live but that's the only bad thing about it.

Although I've owned PS1/2/3 I've never really been that keen on them, I was late in getting the PS3, when it comes to next gen, unless there's something really worth getting it for I'll wait again.

I am on my 4th 360 and bought a PS3 a few years after it launched. Despite the disappointment of needing to have consoles repaired/replaced this gen I truly believe Microsoft has learned the hard way from all the monetary losses caused by their oversights this gen and they have had long enough to figure the overheating thing out by now.

I will buy their next console day 1 if the launch software warrants it. Unless Sony blows Microsoft's next console out the water with price point & specs I won't even consider it as I don't use my PS3 that often anymore.

I have always bought my consoles day one. Some may think that would be foolish but surprisingly the only console that proved to be a hassle was the 360. Other then that they have all lasted.

I'd like to buy the next Playstation immediately. I laughed at the PS3 at launch for being a media center before a gaming system but it's turned out to be the most versatile CE product I've ever owned and it has a terrific library of games as well.

Unless MS acquires some other exclusives or gains some inexplicable advantage over the next Playstation, I'll probably pass on them for the entire generation.

Probably day 1 on the new Xbox. Depends on what it's like.

I'd like to hold off on the new PS because this gen I just haven't had the time for PS3 with the PC, 360 and iOS taking all my time/money, but I'm sure I'll be fighting the impulse to get it anyway.

Not after the 360 fiasco.

I will buy one once its 1.5-2 years in the market

Sounds about right for me. See how it goes, let them develop and release a few good games. Price drop will have happened. Decent bundle deals around.

PS4 day one? Probably. I bought my PS3 day one and never regretted it so, yeah, if at least one game appeals me, I'll probably be there day one.

Probably. I've bought most of the major consoles on day 1 since the SNES, no major regrets so far. I've had good luck; my launch 360 worked perfectly for five years, it finally RROD'd last Sept. Granted, it sucks when you get a new console have to wait for a bona fide kill app to come along later. As long as they come along eventually, it's all good. I guess I just like getting new stuff when it's literally new.

I'll snap up a PS4 at launch, as long as it still uses a dual shock as standard and is a couple of steps up visually from what we have today.

As long as Microsoft doesn't do anything crazy like the Wii U (not dissing it, just don't want that in my next Xbox), yes it will be a day 1. I'll camp out for it unless I can get a rock solid preorder. No need/desire to own that and a PS4 as I don't even have the time to play all the 360 games I want to play.

I can relate to the OP, was poor growing up and I never got consoles until after a price drop or two. I will definitely get either the next xbox or playstation on launch day so friends and I can enjoy the shallow excitement of a launch day.

Only fools and fanboys buy consoles day 1. Normal people always wait at least a year to determine software support, and for games that they like to be released.

That's how I rolled this gen and the gen before that, and the gen before, and the gen before, and I see no reason to change my habits next gen.

way too early to say, if they're just rebranded 360/ps3's with motion control included then no.

they will be day one depending on:
- available gaming software
- major hardware advances (cpu/gpu)
- online infrastructure improvements (no more disc based, more steam-like)
- backwards compatability

I don't expect we'll be seeing a new console on store shelves from Microsoft and Sony for close to 3 years from now.

You still haven't answered my initial question.
Dumb question.

We know for a fact that the PS4 will have better graphics than PS3, will have games at launch, and will be less than $1000. The chances of any one of the previous not happening is only significant using troll logic.

Or, you know, people who enjoy video games and have enough disposable income to justify the purchase. God, the gaming side is so fucking bitter about everything.

PS4: Maybe.
Xbox "720": Not a chance.
Wii U: Will get when it has 3-4 good exclusives, which I don't think will take Nintendo longer than a year.

Of course I say this now, but new hardware is always tantalizing. I probably won't be able to resist PS4 or Wii U.

Exactamundo..lower price, bigger library, no fuckin red rings of death and all this crap.

I honestly have no idea why anyone would buy any electronic product on day one.

We don't know any of these things! These "facts" are just as proven as it being poop in a box.

A fact, huh.

Tell me, O Prophet, what doth the augers say about the next World Cup? I'd like to get my bet in before the odds go down, you understand.

Fortunately, I don't think like that in the real world. I need to function in society by making educated guess and assumptions.

Got my PS2 for Christmas 2001. Got my PS3 August 2007. I generally wait 8-12 months after launch. For the PS2 (I was quite young) and the PS3, it was because I didn't have the money. I'll have the money to buy PS4 on launch day but still think I'd wait about a year till I make the jump.

im fine with my current gaming system and not ready to upgrade to a new one. Ill give them a try , but chances are that i will not buy ps4/x720 day one, same goes for the wii-u.

I can say that China will not win the next world cup. 100% Willing to bet all my money and my life on this.

I have more than enough disposable income to buy any system on day 1 but I am not subsidizing them rushing crappy inferior hardware out the door by doing so.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: I don't traditionally buy consoles Day 1. (I will for handhelds, though.) I don't even plan on getting the Wii U at launch, but truthfully, it really depends on the games line-up and price.

I mean, if they announced 2 or 3 Tales games for launch, then there'll be no way I won't be getting it Day 1. :P

I think I'll stick with my strategy of actually informing myself about the products I purchase with my money.

Have fun with your poop.

Nope, not after 2 years or so while they get cheaper, several games are released, and some hardware revisions are done.

It feels so premature to have this discussion about the Wii U, a system we've actually seen for a little, but still is so far away.

How can we have it about these systems?

Nope.

Maybe if the ps4 has ps3 BC. But even then it'll come down to the games they are showing and how good the BC is- if it can run the current games at 720p 30-60fps then I'll happily buy it.
