I actually never experienced waiting in line for a console. I am assuming that I can get to meet a lot of like-minded gamers and strike up conversations for the ages.

I did it for the 360, a short 12 hour wait in front of a CompUSA (RIP) during a cold November night here in Minnesota. The people I got to chat with, the friendly store staff that served us donuts and coffee, getting the console and heading out to grab a sleepy eyed breakfast. It was really fun and I'm looking forward to doing it again.

You took what I said out of context. But....

-Shitty launch games. (that is strictly your opinion, just because a game doesn't merit the purchase of a console on it's own does not make it shitty)

-Hardware failures. (MS offered free repairs, other then that I have never had a problem with my console, expect my PS2 but that was years later. But there is this thing called insurance, best buy offers it and so does amazon and gamestop.)

-High prices. ("High price" is in the wallet of the beholder, if I can buy a new console with less then two days of work, is it really still foolish, personally I don't think it is.)

I'll buy new Xbox console if it can run Halo 3 in HD and 60 fps. :/

Bitter...or wiser?

I've been gaming since the C64 days. Since then, I've seen one truism in all console launches - all of them had problems that were later ironed out. High price, early hardware failures (hello, RRoD and YLoD), shit launch games, shit games for a whole year after launch (hi there, DS) - all reasons to avoid the first iteration of a console if possible.Plus, by the time you're ready to jump in, everything will (hopefully) be cheaper. How can you possibly lose?

Hell, the closest I came to a launch-day purchase was my JP 60GB launch PS3, which I still have. Thankfully, no problems yet.

And as I said in another post, this makes plenty of sense. What I was reacting to was people getting angry/being insulting towards those who are day 1 adopters. Speaking of old farts, I've had every console and major PC iteration since the late 70s, many of them on or near day 1, and while once in a while you get dud equipment that needs a revision, it has also been very exciting to grab the latest video game tech the moment it comes out. I have a lot of fun memories of day 1 lines.

Poor...or more intelligent? A fool and his money are soon parted, after all :p

I've explained my reasons, rich boy. Now you explain yours.

buying stuff on day 1 is luxury, plain and simple. This has nothing to do with being intelligent or not. want it = pay for it = enjoy it.

No, i have sold my 360 and PS3 due to the let down of GT5 and halo reach. I hate that devs are sacrificing framerate and screen tear for fancy effects. At least on PC I can enable vsync and change settings for a decent framerate.
Next gen I will be PC and nintendo only.

That's fine, but you're also assuming they're rushing "crappy inferior hardware" out the door again. After the financial and PR hits both MS and Sony took with faulty consoles, one would assume they're going to try their best not to have that happen again. Seems perfectly reasonable to wait it out and see, but on the other end, it isn't reasonable to assume they're going to be faulty, either, and that anyone buying them is throwing their money in a hole.
You do have a point, because the Vita already has a surprisingly good value proposition at launch. 250 bucks for all that tech is kind of a steal really. And would probably make it a justified purchase no matter what. If they continue this strategy with the PS4 then 'm totally on board.

If you bought a PS3, iPad, 3DS etc. at launch, though... That was just pure idiocy.

Yes to both. I will develop an affinity for one, criticise the other with snarky comments on the internet, but secretly love them both the same.

I really hate it when people call it the x720, even Xbox 3 would be more logical than that.

And probably no.
hate away, it's not going away until they revel the real name. It makes sense as a code name that plays off 360. 360° is one turn/cycle/generation past Xbox. 720° is two.

day1 for a new console launch = either waiting in line for 2 days in front of best buy or paying 2-3x markup to a scalper on ebay

no thanks

I doubt I'll buy either at launch. I didn't buy a 360/PS3 at launch this gen and that worked out fine for me.

Whether I'll buy them both or not, I don't know. This gen I bought all consoles and handhelds, but in hindsight it was a waste of money. I gave my DS Lite and Wii away because I wasn't using them, and I barely use my PS3 and PSP Go. I'm fairly sure about getting a Vita at some point, and if the new Xbox lets me use the same gamertag, XBLA games etc. then I'll probably just get that, otherwise I'll check out the specs/games of all 3 new machines and make my mind up then.

Dreamcast and PS2 are the only systems I've ever bought at launch and it looks like the Vita may be the 3rd so it's not something I do often. The only thing I can say with certainty is that I will buy the PS4 or whatever they end up calling it. No way I can say day 1 or not right now. Depends on the price and launch line up.

Hell no. I will wait to see how reliable they are and if they are not, I will wait for the next hardware revision. Also I'm probably just going to get a ps4 considering all the bullshit MS pulled this gen.

The 720? Hell nah. Unless they undergo a complete transformation before next gen (or money hat my favorite series), I don't think I'll be interested in whatever console that Microsauce releases. I'm not a fan of their business practices, to say the least, and they seem to be moving farther and farther away from what I want from videogaming.

I imagine that I'll be a bit more inclined to purchase the next Playstation, but at the same time it's not something I'd stand in line for. I'll probably wait for price drops and the library to improve before I consider getting on board. Overall, I feel kind of apathetic about whatever they do.

The thing is, since going PC I've lost a lot of interest in consoles. It's the ideal platform for me, I don't need much else. I'd much rather just spend a fraction of what a new console would cost and upgrade my GPU instead. That being said, I'll probably purchase the next Nintendo since I'm most attached to their franchises and it'll compliment my PC platform better than the other two.

If there are still console games worth buying, maybe. If it looks worse than the current situation of yearly sequels selling 15 million copies and getting perfect scores on the 8-10 review scale, I'll pass.

Exactamundo..lower price, bigger library, no fuckin red rings of death and all this crap.

I honestly have no idea why anyone would buy any electronic product on day one.

Maybe because they want to play exclusive games right now and not 2 years later?

THIS!
I am currently playing through planescape torment at 1920x1200 with a few mods that fix the bugs and add deleted content and I've never been happier also steam has done more for my gaming than microsoft have managed since I bought a 360 at launch.

Launch line-up means everything. Same for Wii U.

If there's something in it I want to play I'll probably bite.

Nah. Didn't get a PS3 or 360 day one either. I might not ever as I plan on being a single console owner going forward. I have less and less time for gaming going forward and Nintendo's IPs are my favorite so I'll be picking up their new console. I only got a 360 originally because of the games missing form the Wii (RPGs mainly). There shouldn't be a need to do that next time hopefully. I'm moving more toward hand helds as well.

I'm done buying systems on launch day. The hardware is usually garbage, the launch games such eggs and after a brief spurt of playing all the launch games it sits and gathers dust for a year before the real games start coming out.

Lol, just imagine that fanboy wars that would take place between the two lines outside of Best Buy. There would be blood.

No, just one line, and the maximum number of people who get consoles is shared between the two.

If you're going to have a fight, have a FIGHT

Before my little pony? Maybe. Now, everyone is friends.

MS would probably pay for the 5 hour timed exclusive launch.

I'll wait until the first major third party shooter is available on them and then decide...so probably 8 months into the hardware or so (assuming Xmas launch, and either COD10MW5 or Battlefield 5(?) launches in the fall)

Perhaps earlier if it can play my old games too (PS3), but I will not bet on that.

I had some thoughts about jumping to MS, but can't see myself putting up with them.

X3 - no, reasons: RROD, Kinect, lack of exclusives. Halo 5 and Gears 4 not gonna work for me.
PS4- probably, if it's $399 or less with a decent game like Uncharted 4 and Dual Shock 4 is still standard for controls.

I may buy ps4 day 1 depending on price and lineup. But the chances are not that high since I plan to stick with my ps3 for a long time...

Depends heavily on the lineup. Vita will be the first gaming hardware that I'll be buying Day 1 and that's because of the amazing tech and great launch line up. I won't be buying day one unless there are 3-4+ games at launch that I could see myself playing for a long time.

Yes, most defiantly day 1 for the next Xbox and PlayStation if it’s possible. But I’m not going to stand in line for them, maybe pre-order and just drop by the store later that day.

Good luck with that.
I kind of wish it would happen already, tbh. Having to have 3 consoles around just to be able to play all the good games is a pain in the ass, they take up so much space. I could really do with either one of the three pulling a Sega and going software-only. I don't think it would impair competition on the hardware front too much as there would still be two titans left standing, feeling the breath of Apple in their neck.

I'll buy the first one of them day one, to get my next gen fix. Second one I'll wait for a price drop and better game lineup.

Seriously. By then, it would be at least eight years since the launch of the 360, and seven since the launch of the ps3. I can't speak for others, but my hype level would be through the roof.
