Fractale is the story of a boy named Crane (voiced by Yu Kobayashi), who lives on an island where the Fractale system--apparently a virtual-reality network seamlessly integrated into the land itself--is breaking down. He then finds a girl. There's been an underwhelming manga adaptation for it, for which a few chapters have been released, should you find the urge to check it out before the show airs. From the director of Kannagi. It's an anime for noitaminA, so it might be worth checking out.

Freezing. I really can't make sense of the summary, and I read a bit of the manga. Unremarkable stuff.

Infinite Stratos. The trailer may make it look like a generic harem anime, because it is. Awesome, because it has guns. Set in a world where girls do the fighting because men can't, for some odd reason or another; yet the protagonist, a conveniently Japanese self-insertion character, can and thus is beset by virgins, virgins everywhere.

Thumbs-up for generic harem anime everywhere.

Wandering Son.

I thought about writing up a long-ish post about it, but I ain't very eloquent--so I decided to link to the post that made me read the series in the first place. Hopefully, the anime adaptation--which has looked excellent so far--lives up to the source material.
Hourou Musuko certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. The first chapter debuted in the long ago year of 2002, and continues to run today; in Enterbrain's Seinen magazine, Comic Beam.

For the sake of those who are not aware, and to make thing's more simple; Seinen is the name given to works intended for an older male audience. Seinen Manga tend to be Mature works comparable to the modern novel; usually not involving strange fantasy or science fiction tales, but realistic story lines that follow relationships, growing up, and so forth.

Hourou Musuko is not a series that can be summed up to couple of sentences. Even if you read the first volume you won't be able describe what is so great about it, you won’t be able to easily digest or divulge the plot, you wouldn’t even be able to tell anyone exactly why you were reading it.

The story begins rather simply, portraying a common japanese family getting ready for school, having breakfast, and that sort of thing. The dialogue is natural, it flows alongside the plot like a calm stream of fact. The children bicker, the parent's look on lovingly, everything seems perfect; and it is, it’s the perfect family.

Over the next couple of volumes, the characters and setting are laid out quite matter-of-factly, and it doesn’t feel the least bit forced when you begin to notice that the protagonist is a bit different from all the other boys in his class.

With a shy and pretty demeanor and a tendency to cook, bake, and socialize with the fairer sex, Nitori Shuuichi is presented as a character that is completely human. A character that can be identified with. A character that even the most cold hearted Christian could love. This tenderhearted identifiable and innocent boy likes to dress up as a girl.

Not only that, he want's to be a girl; he identifies as a girl.

The series exposes one of it's prevalent themes nonchalantly and naturally, without passing judgement or playing to stereotypes and without sensationalizing, the series begins to demonstrate the most accurate account of Transgenderism in any form of media.

Nitorin, the quickly adapted nick name for the protagonist, demonstrates a calm demeanor and seems to easily befriend others, many with similar issues. For instance Takatsuki; the second main character and what could be called the cannon coupling for the young Nitorin, is a tomboy who wishes she was herself a boy, and whose influence leads Nitorin to join in cross-dressing 'dates' they share through much of the first four volumes. Visiting their grown up friend; a Male-to-Female Transexual, much like Nitorin; albeit clearly shown to be of a different sexual orientation as she lives with her boyfriend.

Hourou Musuko manages to approach the very tender issue of sex and gender roles, without being sexual in any form. When dealing with puberty that truly is a great accomplishment.

Hourou Musuko is still being published in Japan, just ending it’s ninth volume. The series is possibly the most realistic, and most honest depiction of people growing up with gender dysphoria and other role issues. It’s not in the least bit trashy, and is considered by some, including myself; to be a masterpiece of the Manga art-form.

Only show i have high hopes for is Wandering Son. Because from i read from the manga is amazing, and the trailers look extremely promising.

Fractale has potential based on it's premise, but the staff behind it isn't giving me any hope for it.

Other shows i will check out - Beelzebub, madoka Supernatural, Mazinfuckingkaiser SKL, KNT S2 (if i watch the first season).

Thank you for saving us from ourselves.

I'll check out Wandering Son and uhhhhhh whatever else people say is good. Not much is looking interesting to me this season.

I like the line about Kimi ni Todoke 2, because that's the only good thing one could say about that show. Which is also the only reason I'll watch the second season while raging at the stupidity of that awful female lead and her love interest.

So many shows to watch this winter, I wonder if I'll actually follow all that I want to.

I think I'll also watch the one about the crime solving goth loli.

Ye of anime-gaf with decent taste, which shows should I be watching?

From where I sit, all of these look like garbage.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Hourou Musuko, Fractale, that Shaft thing, the BONES thing, Houkago and maybe Supernatural.

Jerk: Wandering Son seems to be the safest bet of the season.

I stopped posted during the last 50 or so pages thanks to WoW and I'm still 5th.

MY FAMILY IS FOREVER SHAMED.

Yeah. It's 22 episodes and covers the first two seasons of the TV series. It looks pretty good from the trailers released so far.

Crunching the numbers, the top five people in the Fall thread (Jexhius, InfiniteNine, firehawk12, Branduil, Halycon) accounted for roughly 32% of posts. Top ten bumps it up to 50%.

Fractale, Gosick, Beelzebub day one, waiting on first episode impressions for everything else.

That settles it, worst season of anime ever.

Will watch the first episode of everything. Particularly interested in Haiyoru! Nyaruani (just because it's moe Cthullu), Fractale, Dragon Crisis, Beelzebub (highlight of the season which hopefully goes far), Freezing (because it doesn't make sense), Gosick, Infinite Stratos, zombie moe!, Level-E, reverse Oreimo, Wolverine, Wandering Son, Supernatural, and Mazinkaiser.

I'm predicting at least half of these will be shit that I'll drop after a few eps. Would still be a successful season though.

At least card fighting is better than moe, and Beelzebub seems like the best out of this bunch. Also when's Gintama come back, spring?

Hrm. Nothing of interest. Guess it's a good time to catch up on the ol'backlog of animes I still haven't watched.

InfiniteNine

Rolling Girl
Well last time I partook in Lovecraft moe I enjoyed it, but it's Nitro+ so they set a high bar. Will watch out of interest in our ruler Cthulu.

So are there going to be individual threads again? How many actually warrant one? Seems people want to pimp Wandering Son, so I guess that. Also Beelzebub since it could potentially be the next big long running WSJ adaptation. Wolverine maybe? Can't really think of anything else.

I think shidoshi was doing a Wandering Son thread. Or was that someone else? Can't remember.

Then... I don't know, nothing truly stands out. I was thinking about making a short one for Infinite Stratos, a.k.a. the Next Great Thing, but I'd much rather play WoW.
