Like say a friend or relative got arrested and didn't have the money to get out? I ask because an acquaintance of mind her boyfriend has been arrested for drugs multiple times and she keeps paying him to get out but she broke up with him about six months ago and he got arrested again for Meth and he was begging her for $5,000 to get out but she isn't going to bail him out anymore.

It would have to be case-by-case. I wouldn't say I'd never pay it, but I'd want to be pretty sure they're innocent/it's a low-level or "victimless" crime, they aren't a flight risk, and it'd depend on the amount.

Depends on the person and crime.
I've always found the bail system in the US weird though. Being locked up or not while awaiting trial shouldn't depend on how much money you have.

Depends whether you think you can trust them or not.

In the example given in the first post, it seems a bit like it has the potential to go wrong.

If my former roomie ended up in jail, I would do everything I could to bail her out especially since they'd probably put her in with the dudes and that would really worry me.

Depends on the person, but your example sounds like a bad deal all around. Drug addicts will drag you down with them.

That's why it's a sin to use drugs and alcohol.

If a friend needs out, I will do what I need to do to get them out. Once. Repeat offenders are going to learn their lesson by sitting there. Family? I honestly do not know how many times I would bail them out. I hope it never gets tested.

The poll should be updated to be a bit more specific.

I have bailed someone out in the past, during my Army days and before during my TN days, several times in fact. When you choose to surround yourself with the crowd that I did, it comes with the territory.

I would not do so today. Your fuck up is your own, so own it; I've got bigger fish to fry.

It's simple greed.
The bail bond business is huge in the US.
Look around any jail and you'll see several bail bond spots.

Lawyers, prosecutors, etc.. all fall into the same greed pool here.

Assuming facts to the extent provided. Seems like he took her for granted
Best rid tbh. Now he has to face consequences in jail.

Yes. Had this happen recently. I knew my friend's wife. She was having a difficult time with her ex husband and the divorce.

Should add: 'have you ever been bonded?' To your poll so we know who the criminals among us are.

Yeah, and the thing is he has a pretty good career as a Master Plumber, he just keeps spending his money on drugs.
