Wow Lair frame rate is all over the place

I know (hope) you are joking, but that's why I don't want to start. Pointing out flaws in a game just ruins the experience.

I'm glad I never read TTP's impressions of SotC. I would imagine they would have read quite poorly, given it's poor framerate and rather bland color scheme. It would probably followed by some Okami comparisons to boot.

So Lair is comparable to SotC? Got it.
However I'll wait until TTP can post full gameplay impressions. Despite being technically unsound at times SoTC showcased some impressive and intelligent gameplay design. I can only hope the same for Lair.

Ok, I've only been playing it this morning - but I wouldn't dismiss the game so quickly.

Nice! Leave us hanging here.......waiting........still waiting!........oh screw this.:lol

Waiting sucks.

Don't be a moron. He's giving us honest impressions. All we can ask for is that.
He's giving us impressions mixed in with "What am I saying. Warhawk destroys Lair in every department." That's a poor comaprison at best.

Well that sucks. After not being that excited originally, I had recently become kinda stoked about it after the latest trailer. Maybe it was finally watching it on my largish TV through my PS3, but I got a little hyped to shoot through the air burning the faces off dragons and other soldiers.

And I'm not a framerate whore. I don't need 60 (although it's nice in certain genres) but regular drops below 30, particularly for flying games, really bother me. I am worried again.

So that leaves an opening for you to explain Warhawk's faults. Instead you ignore it and just bitch. How does that make you the better man?

I have played neither Warhawk nor Lair but I am interested in both. I would appreciate impressions from both ends so I can understand the full story.

discus!!
TTP?! TTP kicks ass and gives impressions solely based upon how he sees things rather attempting to support some agenda.

are you seriously accusing TTP of being anti-Sony? you people need to get out more.

thanks for the honest impressions TTP. ignore these asshats.

The levels in Warhawk are much smaller.

They are less detailed even on the smaller scale.

The water in Warhawk in non interactive as opposed to the water in Lair which is actually interactive.

There is far less activity going on in Warhawk as opposed to Lair.

In terms of scale and all the activity going on, Lair destroys Warhawk.

Are you happy now? Now you have heard all the negatives regarding both games and they would both appear to have no redeeming qualities.

TTP is mostly a straight shooter, he gave pretty solid impressions of LAIR in the Official LAIR thread.

Care to briefly elaborate?

Sure - I really am enjoying the flight controls, and I'm also a huge Rogue Squadron fan and you can definitely feel some of that influence.

I've only played a few levels though.

Can you say anything about the physical dragon combat?

Care to elaborate on the fra..a...mme...r...ate? :D

Is your copy a rock-solid 30? Close to 30? Or just, "all over the place" as the OP said?

EDIT: And what resolution are you at?

First Factor Five screws up Super Turrican 2 and now Lair...what are we to do.

In all seriousness, this is a big blow to Sony's lineup for the rest of the year if Lair doesn't go over well. I think they're looking at it as another major system selling bullett point.

I'm not really sure how much his wildly varying impressions based on two builds of the game that aren't confirmed as final really tell us. The other day, his impressions from the E3 demo were far more favorable, to the point that he was even taking issue with my suggestion that we withhold judgment on such limited playtime. Now, it's almost a 180 and it's not clear how much additional playtime that's based on.

Ooh boy.

I don't even know where to begin.

The Play review said the framerate was fixed. Who to believe?

Has any build on a show or whatever had good framerate? about 30fps most of the time that is.

I have a feeling the final product chugs quite a bit :(

Thanks for the impressions, TTP. It really sounds like this game is a mess. How's the story? Is it as devoid of drama as that in F5's other games? A good story could get me to slog through it.

Looks like Warhawk is the PS3 game I'll buy this month. Which is odd considering I'm not a big multiplayer fan. Really wish they hadn't canned the single player.

Play magazine quote regarding Sonic for the 360 - "You simply can't ask for more out of an action game. Mission accomplished. Sonic is born anew."

wow. A classic magazine review that we think it is totally a shit.

Hmm, reviews so far have not mentionned a terrible frame rate, have they ? I think some previews also recently mentionned a good improvement of the framerate.

I don't know, we'll see with the demo :P (provided they do not give us a 6 months old demo of course <_<)

They probably could have nailed 60fps locked @ 720p, but they had a marketing bullet point to chase after so...

:lol

You're not serious ... oh wait, this is Shog.

Um ... no ... :lol

Top notch.

It's decent. Albeit frequently interrupted, missions are very hectic and drag you about between air and ground attacks. I like this. What I dont like is not actually understanding what's going on around me. For example. The mantas level. There are like 6 of those huge beasts slowly flying around. Dragons are attacking the mantas. They are coming from everywhere. You go defend a manta of your choice. Burn some dragons. Cut scene of a manta exploding somewhere. You go "uh?" for a sec but you are back in the game. Mess around you. "They are attacking us!". You go "Where?" "Who?" "How?". But you keep going and attack a random dragons squadron approaching a manta. You kill all of them. Manta is safe. Cut scene of a manta exploding somewhere. You go "uh?" for a sec but you are back in the game. Leading towarda another manta. You... Cut scene of a manta exploding somewhere. You go "uh? WTF?" for a sec but you are back in the game. So now you go searching for the next... Cut scene of a manta exploding somewhere. You go "uh? WTF? Seriously now" for a sec but you are back in the game. So, the mantas. Right. Let's see... Cut scene of a manta exploding somewhere. You go "uh? WTF? Seriously now what did I do wrong?" for a sec and then it's game over.

It can basically get very confusing a times. A kind of I-NEED-A-****ING-MAP degree of confusion if u get what I mean. You just have this arrow pointing you towards your objective, but in more open missions like the one I described you gotta look around yourself and decide where to go. But then again, this confusion is mostly due to the lack of visual clarity.

So basically, you're escaping from Hoth protecting mantas instead of supply ships, and shooting down dragons insted of Tie Fighters? Is that pretty much the jist of it? Why didn't they just make this another true flight game, since it's obvious that some of their old conventions (ie radio chatter) seemed to have made the transition, even when it didn't make sense?

I think the main differentiator is the physical combat, as well as the ground combat.
This is really what I'm most interested in.

Lair will pull a Lost Planet, I.E, sell at least a million copies after launch :D

Man, the enxt 2 weeks will be unbearable

SCEH(SCE Hong Kong) hold a presentation about Playstation 3 games this week in Taiwan.Of course,There is a Lair demo onstage for any gamers.

From some gamer's feedback, they are not impressed by what they saw.Precisely, they say their impression was not good as they had thought before..

Wouldn't trolling have to contain some kind of reference to one's own opinion? This sounds more like just unsubstantiated claptrap, not trolling.
