WWDC09 Thread of iPhones and Snow Leopards

You know, for an OS update that not focusing on features, Snow Leopard has quite a few nice ones
keyboardemojiver220_896e36e.png

like system wide text correction

put back from trash

Dock expose integration

navigating folders within stacks

2/3 less bandwidth needed for video chat

quicktime X video trimming and sharing features

intelligent pdf text selection in preview

voiceover trackpad support

exchange integration in the system

plus all the speed increases

I would've paid 60 bucks for an upgrade that does all that. Apple really wants to push SL adoption charging only 30 bucks for it.

Dear Apple and Mozilla people and everyone else who makes a browser for OS X;

Fix this please:
2iuf0pf.jpg

Thank you
Jason

Okay. Now this is the problem with tabbed applications. That menu should list all the tabs. Not just the window and the title of the current tab. Snow Leopard would be nice if it were smart enough to do this, but it won't be. The Firefox people need to work with it. Seems SL will remove that menu. Which will make it even harder. Which is why Apple needs to implement a way to send different "tabs" to different exposé boxes and allow you to select a tab from this layout of windows.

Windows 7 seems to have fixed this. Why hasn't OS X? Even Safari 4 hasn't fixed this with the Dock menu. It shows only the selected tab in the window in the menu.

Let's hope somehow this can be fixed. Would be nice.

:lol If $30 wasn't cheap enough. That's pretty awesome.

It's a slight bump from what I remember... I think processor was 2.0ghz, non built in battery, etc. I think it was ddr3 ram before though...

Edit 2: http://guides.macrumors.com/MacBook That shows the revisions...

Thanks a ton. I got really excited about seeing the 13" Pro, since that's what I originally wanted when I bought my white Macbook in early '08. The wife and I need iMacs these days, because we're doing a lot of video/photo work. But the new 13" look extremely nice.

Anyone know how the screen on the 13" and 15"s are in comparison to iMac 24" screens?

i might take the plunge on a 3Gs. Not as huge of an upgrade as I was expecting, but im on a 1st gen 4gig iPhone so anything at this point is an upgrade i guess. I'll wait and see how my OG handles the 3.0 update. Really want that Tom Tom GPS though, which may push me towards a new phone. On a side note, i really wish they would have gone back to the aluminum finish on the new iPhones, or at least something matte instead of the glossy white/black.

I just returned my Palm Pre, there was a Palm rep there who wasn't happy about my decision, but the Pre has build quality issues and the 3Gs literally fixed all my complaints

-Faster performance (I didn't approve at things like SMS taking 7 seconds to open)
-Sideways keyboard released
-Better camera and video
-Notifications
-Better battery life

I'm very excited to finally join the iPhone world on the 19th.

I'm not positive but I think I saw that the 3GS has white and black versions again. If this is so, have the cracking issues with the white 3G been solved? I like that color more, but it also showed the black hairline cracks which occurred by themselves when the black didn't.

Remember kids: Leaving your bag in the back of a taxi is baaad; especially if your laptop is in it.

On the upside, a new, shiny MBP is on the way and someone just received a free, locked down G4 laptop.

They have a HUGE need to get this one out in order to get the base using Grand Central.

Sorry to disappoint you guys but I don't think those emotes are part of the new OS, it's an app you can download that makes one of the keyboard languages display emotes instead of letters.

I'm sorry to hear that. The loss that is. Was there no way to track it down by calling the cab company? Not that that would do good since the next person in the cab probably took it. At least after opening it and getting a nice surprise.

Hope you had a backup of your data.

That smiley pile of crap has been a standard emote on Japanese cell phones for years, glad to see it's finally getting attention elsewhere :D

That's not actually true. It's been a part of the OS since like 2.1 or something like that. The problem is accessing it. The software app you mentioned just makes it so they're enabled in the settings and accessible. The emotes are already in the OS though and if you have access to it, you can send it in a SMS to any iphone user and it will show up on their end. The problem is just enabling them in the keyboard.

Man I want one of those 13" MacBookPros :(

I wonder how much I could get for this shitty HP Laptop i bought a year ago. I fucking hate it so very much. Never again.

The free iPod Touch makes it even harder to pass up on the MBP (even though I already have an iPhone, I could sell it or give it as a gift to a family member).

it's really fantastic.

it's all about saying "hey, I think this news is pretty cool but it won't change my life because I'm still a piece of crap and sometimes I feel like I don't deserve nice things. but maybe today... maybe today will be different and I can go out there, and put a big smile on my face and try to be happy for once. because maybe pretending to be happy is just as good as being happy"

I called every cab company in town and, so far, no word in spite of offering a reward. I do have a backup; it was mostly a work based machine. Honestly, I got my money out of the hardware so I'm more concerned about preventing anyone from accessing the data, but I seem to have lucked out on that so far. Posting on GAF via the iPhone sucks though;-)

Just glad they announced new machines; good timing for a bad thing to occur.

in case it's not been noticed, O2 tethering prices as well as updated 3GS packages. Verdict: EXPENSIVE!

Tethering info

3GB = £14.68 per month
10GB = £29.36 per month

man that sucks, that is a huge addition to the bill.

New packages

Not sure if I find any of these instantly attractive now, will need some serious thinking over, thats a hell of a lot of money over a year or 2, even if I do qualify for a 30% discount.

So rogers is allowing free tethering for a limited time for users with a 1 GB or higher data plan.
keyboardemojiver220_896e36e.png

no word on the price of tethering for canadians after that limited time.

Pretty much.

Dammit:

I added some emoji to this response, hoping it would show up for iPhone users. Hmmm. I wonder if that's something that is a problem gafside, or if it can be implemented into the webapp. CKohler?

I pay $30 a month for 6gigs from Rogers, why the fuck can't I use that for tethering? I know they will rape us on this.

Shame they're not letting customers upgrade early this year, and the handset prices are astronomical. :O

I have to pay to use a network I already pay to use?

Fuck you, o2!

The new iPhone stuff seemed pretty incremental (except the $99 pricepoint for the 3G!)

Also, I was disappointed to see Apple not releasing notebooks under $1000 or any netbooks.

Meh.

OK,

I have installed the various updates available, including Safari 4. I really, really like Safari 4. I don't want to use Firefox for the moment...but good GOD GIFs are still seemingly capped at around 10fps. Because so much of GAF is animated GIF images, it really dulls the experience. It's so fast and nice, though! Dammit! Is there any way at all to fix this?
People telling me to use something else should be slapped as that's the "fix" I've been using for a while now

I was in camp "Apple is not going to announce a netbook ever" the whole time. They were clearly against it saying you might as well just use an iPhone or iPod touch. They don't get it and don't feel the need to get it. I see releasing a netbook as only helping them, but I'm sure they fear it'll cannibalize iPod Touch and Macbook sales, kinda like how they gimped the ROKR in fear of it destroying the iPod.

The white macbook is only $999! Has been for a while.

Quit browsing gaf.

I'm "testing" OS3 on my 3G. I'm with Fido, and MMS does not work. Pictures do not send. Also, tethering is not activated on my account. Meaning, Fido's going to RAPE ME even though I already PAY FUCKING $30/M FOR 6GB. JUST LET ME USE IT ON MY LAPTOP.

Can someone explain WHY anyone should be charged EXTRA because they are using the internet on another device? Argh.
