Really Microsoft? It wasn't like that for the 360.

What the fuck. This is...wow.

Difference between PS4 / XB1 is larger than PS3 / 360
One has an additional peripheral while the other doesn't therein lies the reason for the extra $100. Trying to spin it without mentioning that is just wrong.
The problem is that Sony decided to go out and publish a bunch of numbers, which are in some ways meaningless, he said. Because this isnt like 1990, when it was 16-bit versus 32-bit.
!
I don't remember them focusing too much on tech.Oh look. People criticizing a company for saying their focus is on game development. Shortly after complaining that the same company didn't focus on their games, but focused too much on tech/features.
Must be Friday.
I'm still getting a 180, hopefully early next year. Had an O.G. Xbox and a 360 and loved them both. Also had all the other platforms in those generations too. I just buy everything and play as much as I can. During DRMgate was the only time I wasn't going to get a 180. After the turn around I was right back in. I flip-flop my main console so many times throughout a Gen that I can't even tell you my favorite console from any generation except 8 and 16bit (NES and SNES).
GAF? The hearts and minds of gamers? Wimbledon? Dude talks up his product, downplays deficiencies and all was the same.
It is interesting just how much favor MS has lost in the last few years. I can't wait to see how this plays out because although I'll be getting a PS4 first I do love a good underdog story. More expensive, less powerful and a bitter taste from the DRM fiasco. Add in a Sony that isn't missing a beat and the story gets so good it should be a movie.
Absolutely; getting one for exclusives and Xbox is for exclusives and multi plat titles. I get much more out of my PS3 lately than my xbox.

Allot of people (on gaming forums more so) will ignore it because we largely dont want the "extra" peripheral to begin with. Im curious to know how much of the casual market will fork over another $100 for a camera attachement, when they will see a largely similar game library attached to both consoles.

Adam Pollington (Microsoft Xbox Australia) said:It’s also been stated that the Xbox One is ten times more powerful than the Xbox 360, so we’re effectively 40 times greater than the Xbox 360 in terms of processing capabilities [using the cloud]. If you look to the cloud as something that is no doubt going to evolve and grow over time, it really spells out that there’s no limit to where the processing power of Xbox One can go. I think that’s a very exciting proposition, not only for Australians, but anyone else who’s going to pick up the Xbox One console.

I am the same; I flip flop a bunch since the old days. I think I am starting out this gen with the Xbox because the exclusives at launch appeal to me more than what is on the PS4 at first. Thanks for the answer.
Why would you get the multi plats on Xbone?
Haha, had forgotten about that. Can't get any more meaningless than that.
Which would be part of doing a hardware analysis, that is entirely meaningless according to MS.One has an additional peripheral while the other doesn't therein lies the reason for the extra $100.
The irony.Trying to spin it without mentioning that is just wrong.

What a hypocrite.
I've never once seen you flip-flop on the X1, dude.
You've been spinning like Marley's been toking.
Embrace your fandom.
The context is what makes this statement funny. Few people actually disagree with games meaning much more than specs.I don't really think he's wrong in his opinion. Most people don't really care which one has better specs and even less people understand what they specs even mean. While it might be a point of discussion before they launch the large majority of people will choose a console based off the games and not which system they perceive to be more powerful.
No problem! The only downside to liking all of your consoles is that you can come off as a fanboy depending on what thread you're in. Current Gen I went past the trifecta and got accused of being a PS, Xbox, Nintendo and PC fanboy on different occasions
What a hypocrite.
Xbone me if old:
Xbox product planning boss Albert Penello feels that hardware analysis is meaningless because its all about the games.
Speaking with OXM, Penello said there are very few gamers who will buy consoles for the specs alone, so there is no sense in comparing Xbox One and PS4.
The problem is that Sony decided to go out and publish a bunch of numbers, which are in some ways meaningless, he said. Because this isnt like 1990, when it was 16-bit versus 32-bit.
As a matter of fact, they actually go out and they talk about how proud they are about their off-the-shelf parts. Our guysll say, we touched every single component in the box and everything there is tweaked for optimum performance. For me, Id rather not even have the conversation, because its not going to matter.
The box is going to be awesome. The games are going to be awesome. I heard this exact same argument last generation and its a pointless argument, because people are debating things which they dont know about. Theyre not [head silicon engineer] Nick Baker or [corporate vice president of IEB hardware Todd Holmdahl], and Im not [lead PS4 architect] Mark Cerny, so why are we having this discussion?
Penello feels consumers will pick a console for the games it offers, rather than for its capabilities on paper. "Here's what you care about," he said. "You bought a system to play great games and have great experiences. I feel like our games and experiences are going to be every bit as good, if not better, technically - on top of all the magic we're going to add with the instant switching, and the power of the cloud.
That clowd powa!
I will wait to see the difference between third party games before deciding on which one to buy.
If the difference between the on paper specs appears in such a comparison, then I'll go with the PS4.
After saying:
What a hypocrite.
I think from day 1 you will see a substantial difference between the consoles on multiplatform titles, hence the larger difference between them. Not really. Diminishing returns my friend. Though since the ps4 eliminates certain bottlenecks so I think the performance will pull slightly ahead fairly quickly.
And then to bring up "cloud magic" (I can't believe he actually referred to it as magic). That's when you lost the argument, Penello.
You're buying an XB1 for multiplat titles?

You should probably wait a year after release, then. There's little reason to believe it will show up on early, cross-gen games.
Lowest common denominator.
When designing for multiplatform you have to make sure the game can run on all platforms. Which means it will be designed and built for the least powerful system first and foremost. Then ported up.
A great example for this gen is Skyrim. Built for the 360 first then ported up to the PS3, which ran like hot garbage.
