You will then be known as Sir 10k.
Haha.

I may joke around but I'm of the firm belief they'll name it Xbox 10 to match windows 10 version and it'll be a slim version of the console and/or contain 4K media playback and 4k up scaling of games along with built in Oculus support (they have a partnership with oculus). And it really only adds a "0" next to the "One (1)" so it flows well and will be fully backwards compatible with all Xbox one games. Xbox one games will still be made of course. It'll just be an enthusiast sku.

If I can speculate..

Introducing cheaper Xbox Slim makes sense considering hos MS is publishing sales data. MS are fronting xboxLive users instead of HW sales.

How do you then increase userbase for XboxLive?

$199 dollar Xbox One Slim.

If any revision, it will be a slim one and no power increase. At the moment it does not make sense to introduce an xbox 1.5 or similar.

They would be better off trying to get the manufacturing cost down so that the can sell a XBox One with the current spec but at a sub 200 price.

You're not getting a $199 Xbox one. 360 took 7 years to get to that price.
Because MS did not need to decrease price, they had the best selling console in the US regardless of price.

With Xbox One, the situation is different.

They also have a deal with HTC where the Vive is being sold and demo'd in MS Stores. Perhaps they will support both?

Here's something interesting too

https://fccid.io/document.php?id=2810975

this is a new model of controller, which is NDA'd until May. It was submitted at the end of last year.

Maybe totally unrelated, they have a page like this for several controllers. It would be good to know if anybody has a dusk/gold pad what model number it says on the label.

Nice find. If anyone could look that up it would be much appreciated

I've looked at my elite pad which is model 1698
My titanfall pad is 1537
I'd guess the pads where they put in the 3.5mm jack are 1697
Yupp. Just checked that too but I guess this could really be the dusk/copper controllers. Are they out yet?

I don't think there are any major issues with the Wifi, although the Controller reception is very poor compared to the 360
the WiDI (not Wifi) for the controllers used to be bad and would disconnect for me often. However in the past year it stopped doing that. Maybe a software fix helped.

Have you had a new machine.

I just saw that they changed the wifi chips at some point last year

It makes sense to do both a slim and a new box. The entire purpose of UWP is to allow cross device compatibility of games and Apps. It makes perfect sense to release a new more powerful console at the same time that they are rolling out UWP in a big way. A slim makes perfect sense in that they are going to want a cheap way into the Xbox ecosystem. But, a new box also makes sense as a way of keeping the Xbox brand up to date and ever evolving. If they have the back end software to handle a multiple evolving ecosystem then there is no reason not to release an updated box every few years. Having an entry level device and an enthusiast level device on the market at any given time just makes sense.

I don't sense the fear people are having when it comes to an iterative Xbox 1.5. If it can indeed share a library with the original, but has settings for better visuals and higher framerate and resolution if a developer allows it then it seems like a good plan. I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't make it difficult and I would not be surprised if the SDK accounted for it a while ago and the changes could be automated.

Once UWP becomes a larger and a better platform, having games that perform better on the X1.5 could also be a selling point. Microsoft could add the Oculus Rift store and allow Rift connectivity so they could say they support VR without as heavy an investment as Sony.

Not sure what else they could add aside from the 4K uprez and multimonitor/external display support for multiple users on certain titles and functions, but that has too many limitations.

While that personally wouldn't be enough for me to want to update, it should be enough to keep the platform current and adaptable to future technologies, which is their goal. Keep the current offerings, perhaps miniaturized, as the lower cost entry-level offering and set the new X1.5 as the premium offering.

I don't know. Why do the exact same thing with the numerous XBox 360 revisions
The 360 had the benefit of being hardware that was ahead of the majority of PCs at the time so being able to do revisions that added HDMI, internal hard drives, and built in WiFi made sense because it was delivering content that most people had no way of playing at an affordable price. The Xbox One on the other hand has been underpowered since it released and Microsoft has paid for that with versions of games that run worse on the Xbox One, something they rarely dealt with with the 360. Given a chance to release a console that will continue to work with the games currently available on the Xbox One as well as things coming while providing a potentially better experience for those titles is something I can absolutely see Microsoft, under its current regime, going after.

Unless the unsensible thing to do is be left behind on the VR train.

Oculus ready Xbox incoming. I can feel it in my (x)bones

I just went through the ANATEL photos again and I just noticed that the backside of the chip doesn't match the front. (missing screw holes, different size)

Here the front again:

I guess the backside is from 1682 because on the front photo it says 1682 in the document. Someone fucked up the numbers.

I own one and yeah, it's embarrassingly large, especially with the external brick if you don't have somewhere else for it to go, and the Kinect may have limited options for where it can go as well due to having a very short cable with no real extension options..
Very short? The cable is 9 feet long.

The X1 has a smaller footprint than my TiVo - supplied by my cable company, presumably to millions of customers. I've never heard anyone complain about the size of the TiVo.

Long before Microsoft officially announced the Xbox One, hadn't there already been plenty of rumours and leaks about the specs they were going for? This time around we don't get any of that. It's of course possible MS intentionally keeps it away from the public and competition or it really is just a smaller Xbox One and the one big change is better Wifi. Which would be a incredibly stupid idea if you ask me. I think that by now anyone who was interested in getting an Xbox One, has one now. I doubt many are going to buy a smaller version.

I think Microsoft has become better at keeping things under wraps. Just look at the Surface Book, which was a total surprise, and to a certain degree the Surface Pro 4, which everyone knew was coming, but noone knew what the specs were.

Not sure I agree with that. You could apply the same logic to the ps4 too.

There are still millions of potential customers, customers that will only bite once a console hits a certain price point.

Yes i agree, microsoft underestimate the RROD scenario on 360, like i knew my 360 was going to get it at some point, infact 2 of mine got it, so i bought the elite which is still alive and kicking now. :/

Give me a new more powerful console thats able to run Pcars at 1080p 60FPS locked, i can imagine even more big racing titles coming to xbox with this scenario, i'm in!

Nah, lol.

Microsoft's words were quite clear, or Phil Spencer's..... no slight upgraded Xbox One but more like a generational leap I think it was he said. But that sounded like it could still be far off. All the reports so far really point to just a smaller Xbox One. And let's just say that the reports about PS4K are true, if Sony comes with a good and somewhat consumer friendly trade in plan, they'll once again be the "hero" like they were in 2013 as well. But I've said all I wanted to say about this, starting to sound like a broken record as hell.

Klepeks report on the PS4K explicitly mentions Microsoft doing the same thing.

Yeah, none of those damn resolution issues for starters, that would be nice. In the 360/PS3 days I eventually bought a 360 Arcade for the HDMI port, but I am fine with my Xbox One as it is now. Unless it is truly worth spending another 400 on.

MS would be stupid to let Sony bring out an even more powerful console which will run games much better than the Xbox One and not bring out a revised version themselves.

Put it this way, if Sony release a new console which looks extremely good graphically, and Microsoft do nothing, then I will be buying a PS4k and ditching my Xbox One.

I just don't see Microsoft allowing this to happen. It really wouldn't surprise me is Microsoft bring out a more powerful console than the PS4K, and a slim line model.

Tom Warren knew stuff about Pro 4.

This guy:
He didn't know anything about specs, from what I know. But my point was primarily the Surface Book, which was an entirely new high-end product, that no one outside Microsoft knew about (or told the media about, at least).

I'm not sure how to take Tom Warren's tweets.

Is he just being sarcastic?

Between virtually nothing leaking about a upgraded Xbox and a full retail leak on PS4K, I just don't know what to think.

So wtf is Model 1688?
https://fccid.io/C3K1688

It includes testing reports that are usual for mobile phones or tablets but normally it's not a FCC filing by Microsoft Corporation but it's mobile division. Also the photos from the SAR tests indicate some device in the form of a pretty long remote control.
