Xbox One | Ryse confirmed running native at 900p

These recent threads about Ryse.... I cant put my fingers on it but I have the feeling that they have an agenda....

How is it an "agenda" to report solid, confirmed news about an important bit of technology of the game like the resolution?

I for one appreciate it. I'm still on the fence regarding adding Ryse to my list of day one Xbox One games, so any additional info is great to have.

I expect 900p to be a happy "go to" for developers this generation to get the most out of framerate and graphical effects. I don't mind it as all as long as the machines are upscaling to 1080p properly.

If the resolution was the only issue I had with Ryse, I'd be pretty happy about that.

Really? I play on a 24" 1080p monitor and I can immediately tell the difference. You must not play very many native 1080p games.
Of course you can, because PC monitors dont have the scaling tech of modern TVs with quad or hexa core CPUs... Scaling and interpolation is something that needs processing power and if you watch 720p content on the latest edge LCDs or plasmas you'll pretty stunned how good it looks. And of course viewing distance. If your nose is in front of the display you'll notice the lower res.

I wouldnt expect any wonders from the scaling of the Xbone. I cant imagine, that the system will use huge amounts of power for an upscale. If your display doesnt scale good, the console wont change much to improve the IQ.

A bunch if current-gen games use this trick as well; it's actually quite effective when used right since you can save a lot of memory in certain scenes

It depends how aggressively low you go:

Disappointing, but then again it's somewhat hard for me to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on my hdtv. It has to be pointed out to me, otherwise I wouldn't know.

900p is the new 600p. Still an improvement tho (and quite above 720p) so I wouldn't complain.

If the performance gap between Xbox and ps4 meant 900p vs 1080p, but everything else the same, I think that wouldn't be too much of a downgrade for Xbox. I think I'd rather have 900p with good framerate and all effects on than reducing detail to retain 1080p.

How does 900p scale vs something like 1280x1080 or 144x1080 (I.e native vertical resolution and just scaling horizontally)?

I fell off the PC gaming wagon about two years ago due to work and other hobbies, and with nothing to compare against, 360 games have started looking decent or great. I am not willing to put the effort to get a gaming experience with better graphical fidelity (invest in PC hardware), therefore, I'll take whatever the Xbox One gives me. If that isn't 1080p, well fuck, but it doesn't kill my enjoyment.

Also, I bought a 58 inch TV a while ago, and it's had the biggest positive impact I've experienced in gaming in ages; a far better feeling than anything expensive GPUs gave me. I am actually thinking about buying a bigger TV when I get a bigger living room next year.

PC's don't tend to use GPU's with DDR3 ram, nor secondary Esram either.

Maybe more of them should, since Ryse kinda looks better than Crysis 3 in a lot of areas, and currently stands as, in my eyes, the most impressive looking next gen console title.

dat DDR3 :P

Wrong thread?

Wrong thread?

How is my post off-topic? I am just stating that due to a change in habits in the past few years resolution or other graphical enhancements have lost some of the weight they used IMO. I am not too disappointed by this news.

PS4 has 32 ROPs and 176GB/s. Xbox has 16 ROPs and 68GB/s. PS4 was built for 1080p.

Deep down released native 720p shots recently. Do not be totally sure about that. I would say definitely though that PS4 was developed to have most if not all of its game being at 1080p (deep down is doing a heck of a lot of stuff other games ARE NOT doing).

Maan who cares how good it looks :D
I played Crysis 3 and boy I got hell bored. Sure the graphics look amazing but damn the gameplay is so boring

Ryse is made by Crytek
I expect the same average gameplay experience

Isn't the game basically a year out? They've already locked themselves in to 1920x800 with fairly new info that they have 8GB to work with instead of the 4 they started their development with?

Wasnt this a choice due to the aspect ratio they are going with? damn i had a feeling ryse had something soft looking about it i guess we now know what it was.

Pretty sure they haven't locked anything in. These things can change pretty late in the dev cycle (see BF4 statements).

I expect the first batch of games to have some under 1080p resolution.

after a year I hope they are all 1080p!

But for launch and a few months I can understand new hardware means new learning.

Didn't that Edge article mention 1600x900 as a common res for Xbox One?

Yep, but I don't think that's some amazing revelation, considering people expected for some time now that it would be a smart resolution for xbox one titles. That doesn't mean it won't have it's fair share of 1080p titles, but I don't see anything wrong with going lower if you can't meet your performance needs.

Ooh boy. Actually, though, you know what? I really respect that he followed up with that guy to say that it was 900p rather than 1080p.

Well, The Order: 1886 is 1920x800.

It has the black bars. It may partially be there for the extra tech power, but also because they want that 21:9 aspect ratio.

The more important point is that, on a 1080p TV, not a single pixel will be stretched. So it's not really a fair comparison.

You could just take what the PS4 gives you? Your PC comment suggests you are more interested in Multiplatform games?

Seems strange that they are already maximizing the hardware with launch game.
I think that they are playing with the res to have games ready for the launch without spending too much time optimising the code, and the fact that in this way they can have a little more eye candy against sony line up is not something to understimate too.

If current gen is anything to go by, it will probably get worse, not better :P
