Xbox One | Ryse confirmed running native at 900p

The order isn't a launch title.
and still not 1080p?

Which, if people have any common sense should only lend more credence to the fact that they are making this resolution choice intentionally.

If they wanted a fullscreen image at 1080p they have more than enough time to do that, but since reveal the game has had a cinematic presentation.

It's actually getting quite amusing seeing some peoples inability to see just how clear this is.

Choosing a cinematic aspect ratio =/= the hardware is not capable, and it's pretty damn clear that other devs are not having trouble doing a "complete" 1080p image on the PS4.

The desperation and saltiness here is astounding.

I noticed this story got posted on IGN so I took a quick look at the comments and found this conversation about Killzone.

Why did you post this?

My neighbour's dog is probably a more authoritative source on Killzone Shadowfall than a random IGN comment.

Nice use of common sense. Why can't the same common sense be applied to Ryse?

It's not a hardware limitation it's a calendar limitation.
Native resolution is always the preference. No dev would purposefully render at a lower resolution. I'm sure Crytek could get Ryse to run at 1080p if they really wanted to. But I guess to them it's not as important as adding various graphical effects. Or perhaps it's simply easier to maintain a good framerate this way.

Right, so I wasn't sure why The Order not being a launch game was relevant.
We also won't know for sure if the "artistic choice" happened for purely artistic reasons.

Explain. Is 21:9 aspect ratio on many movies a hardware limitation or an artistic choice?

The Order is going to a cinematic look. Show me some movies with that type of border.

Technically a hardware limitation considering a TV doesn't fit that ratio. Most TV's are built for 16:9 (1.78:1) now.

https://37signals.com/svn/posts/1529-theatrical-aspect-ratio

Almost all movies are shot with much wider formats, Cinemascope or Panavision. It's been a standard for a while, they other cut out portions of the screen to fit on a TV, or they letterbox.

While I do agree with you, how do you know that the cinematic border wasn't put there because of some kind of limitation?
we don't. But we do know in Ryse that it is a technical limitation and that in The Order there won't be any scaling ugliness because one pixel will map to one pixel.

Nice. Looks like all Crytek needs to do is to tweak their display frame to incorporate black bars and they'll be A-OK with anyone previously disappointed with the sub-full HD resolution.

My point is that Ryse would be a 1080p game if it weren't a launch title. The change was obviously made as an easy fix to get the framerate stable before it goes gold in a few weeks. The game will be in stores in 60 days.

If people think that Ryse, Killzone, Driveclub, Forza, etc is pushing the boundaries of these console's limitations then there's no point in having this discussion.

Case in point: Halo 3 vs. Halo 4. Same hardware and Halo 4 looks much, much better than Halo 3 while running at a higher native resolution.

Ryse should've went with the black bars as well. There'd be much less backlash. Not kidding.

It wouldn't have helped. Trust me. First people complained about the supposed QT events, even though a lot of successful game used it. Then it was the gameplay. Then it was the animations. Then it was clipping. Now it's resolutions. There's still a lot more time before the game comes up for people to complain.

I know this is off-topic, but I was wondering if someone can make a thread for it.

Spencer had a meeting with some Japanese developers about the release of Xbox One in Japan. He intends to develop an exclusive title in collaboration with those developers. It will be announced officially closer to the Japanese launch of the console.

Didn't CBOAT say something about this?

Platinum Games IIRC.

Yeah. He says it's a Platinum Games title.

You don't know what the PS4 will do either. Will it be upscaled also? You will have to wait and see.

I like this notion. I would love to see the reaction if when PS4 releases and it's the same. I'm not saying it will be... but how awesome will it be to watch EVERYONE do a 180. -Adam

People are ignoring the most important part about all of this.

Greenburg didn't lie to our faces. Did he try to sell the upscaling with his PR spin? Yes, but he didn't outright lie.

After all of the shit with Penello and Major Nelson, I'm 100% ok with him telling the truth, even if it is bad news.

Absolutely true. This is something I really appreciate.

Of course not. You don't know. You don't know at all if it is a technical limitation or not. But you do know there's a limitation with Ryse, and thus it is the inferior?

Ignorance is bliss.

So are we expecting all PS4 games to be 1080p? It sounds like some people are popping champagne during the warm-up drill...

I expect most of Sony first party games to be 1080p everyone else is up in the air IMO .
Thing is i think some people would be less angry if this was a 3rd party game .
Being first party means you expect the best out of the system and in this case Crytek chose less res for more effects .

This post is just silly.

So Ryse is pushing the Xbox One hardware to the max so much so that Crytek had to lower the resolution because they hit a performance wall?

This means that Xbox One must be the easiest console to develop for in the history of consoles if developers are able to tap it out on day one!

Most likely the situation would be somewhat similar with some denial. Then people claiming Neogaf is biased to Sony. Same old same old but yes there would definitely be a 180 from some of the users here.
I <3 Sony btw.

Wait, are people actually saying that The Order's low resolution does not count because they don't bother to scale the picture?

I know Xbone is supposed to be the next evolution of TV, but that's a Microsoft thing. Technical limitations of your actual TV are not the PS4's fault.

60 FPS is what matters most for KZ MP. Dropping the resolution to get 60 FPS is ok with me.

this is what most games will do first to get the FPS they need. I'd be fine with Driveclub dropping to 900p if it meant a solit 60 FPS.

native 1080p is pretty damn demanding for the specs these systems have. don't expect all games to be 1080p with all the bells and whistles in graphics

But the Bone was designed with such a hard to code for memory system so games will improve a bunch more as time goes on since no one knows how to use it now.

Am I doing it right?

Yeah, kind of, LOL.

The Xbox One certainly isn't like the PS3 where you can combine it's cell processor along with the RSX inside of the PS3 to give you more better graphics. Neither Xbox 360 or Xbox One has some sort "secret sauce" inside of them like PS3 does.

Similar to how Perfect Dark Zero, a sub-HD game, maxed out the 360? :P

(Yes, I'm aware the above is sarcasm).

OMG, Gamersyde has 897MB version of Order 1886 realtime trailer!!!! I had only [lowly and pitifful] 330mb version.

/bows to gamersyde
