Pretty embarrassing for Greenberg. It seems like almost every day, someone who is part of the Xbox team, shows how out of touch they are with the product.

I cannot even keep up with the list. Ballmer, Don, Greenberg, Albert and Larry, the guy who is going to sell a billion xbones... Who else? Misdirection, misinformation, questions unanswered, etc. Phoning it in, and floating along.

These people should know this information, and should not have to be corrected daily. I am starting to believe they know the information, but are/were willing to let the misinformation float, although now they are getting caught each time.

I wonder who will come in, and clean house. The next two years, with post launch, Ballmer leaving, and reorganization... it will be interesting to say the least.

Personally, I think you should then prepare for generation-long disappointment. Why would they bust their asses on launch software on new, unfamiliar hardware when most people don't seem to care as long as the end-result is good/great? They're just trying to make launch at this point. Most people who claim to be into graphics on serious level here don't usually make a big deal out of the native resolution being less than full HD because they can't tell, or tell very easily, anyway. Most of the time, someone else tells them and, all of a sudden, it's a gamebreaker despite their having no issues before that revelation. I guess I understand on the purist level and that we expect minimum bars to be cleared with expensive new hardware, but I think both platforms are going to have this struggle all generation long because people tend to prefer the sacrifice (once they're made aware of it by someone else) that means they get snazzier visual effects quality and solid framerate performance at a mostly undetectable resolution loss. I figure we'll get more dynamic resolution-based games than anything else when these consoles should have no problem upscaling.

I have a PC, I'll be fine.

Right, that's a fair and reasonable response. If you value the output, you'll be willing to suffer a little more work on your part and spend a bit more to get it. Anyone sticking to consoles, though, should probably be realistic and that way they can just enjoy what they've got available.

Since KI I now read upscale as KI reads the word combo breaker.

I really think this is a result of 8 years on one console and what people got comfortable with more so then what it can not do. In a year or two I don't see this still being a issue but I could be wrong.

Well said. This thread reminds me of how Gaf was exploding with threads at the beginning of the current generation. Diminishing returns, disappointing resolutions etc. People don't seem to understand the graphics engines take time to mature. Launch games always end up with compromises. I'm surprised to see so many games that already look like a massive leap and are still maintaing the current golden standard of 1080p. But I don't see anything wrong if there are some games that prioritize differently to make a stable release at launch. It's not ideal, but it's understandable!

They're not upscaled.

PS4's more powerful, indeed. The Xbox One can't handle native 1080p perfectly like PS4 could. Microsoft simply designed the Xbox One as a multimedia machine first, & a gaming machine second, while Sony designed the PS4 as a gaming machine first, & a multimedia machine second.

/s means sarcasm. My post was pure sarcasm.

I agree with you regarding the other guys, but I don't think it's realistic to expect Ballmer to know much of the finer details about any MS product. He has bigger things to deal with.

Sorry about that. I didn't know. :)

lol... who cares. It looks amazing and is 60fps, and the new physics engine is getting a lot of incredible praise. Who cares that the time of day is fixed, who cares that there's no weather changes?

Um, a lot of racing fans that do?

Heck, Gran Turismo 6 has that stuff, & it's running off of a last gen console.

There are several problems with this.

2. These values are based on the ability of the human eye to distinguish letters on a board. That is not the same thing as perceiving sharpness or lack thereof on a TV screen, or noticing aliasing moving along a high contrast edge.

You mean like a standard eye test? I doubt that's where these numbers come from... everywhere I've seen anything on TV view distances references THX certification specs.

I agree with you both. Truth be told, it's all about the games. If the games plays right, feels right... then all else is nitpicking according to your own taste. I see no problem with that, hell most people forget that Halo 3 wasn't even 720p, and most people didn't notice until someone else pointed it out...

Games look pretty = there will be a discussion about which version is prettier

What shouldn't be acceptable in the "next-gen" for games both on PC and Console are problems with lousy texture streaming, dumb AI, and other general inmersion breaking factors (aesthetical, graphical and gameplay wise).

I'm ok with Ryse being 900p, or with K:SF singleplayer being 30 FPS, as long as they deliver as "good enjoyable games"....

The funny thing is; the vast majority of these resolution warriors wouldn't had know the difference unless they were told. And the rest are like; "I can tell the difference easily!" Sitting a foot away from your monitor actively LOOKING for a difference? No Sh!t!

And lol at people having second-thoughts about the console(or game) because of this. Gamers these days are so lame.

*PS: Can't wait to get home and play TW-101. 720p + jaggies Platinum awesomeness!*

Here we go :P

Looks like what Edge said about the power difference between Xbone and PS4 is spot on.
Xbone titles will run at reduced resolutions and/or framerates when compared to PS4 titles.

And good looking too! Neither are graphically unimpressive by any means, technically and aesthetically (in my eyes). I like discussing technical details, there are so many curious things to learn in such discussions. This thread has a reason to exist in my subscribed list, but I just don't understand why a game gets attacked purely based on numbers. If things do look blurry and muddy, that's a reason to worry, but if it looks great, why get unnecessarily disappointed?

first party

yes :)

Because Knack, Drive Club, and KZ really push the boundaries of the PS4.

Not really, The Order is confirmed to be lower res.

Pretty sure that's a (dumb) artistic decision than anything performance saving related. It's not like the game is going to be upscaled or anything. They just want you to have black cars for some reason similar to a movie. Which again, is idiotic and I hope they change course. There's still a possibility the black bars may even be rendered and switch up throughout the game, so it's too early to say at this point anyway.

Suddenly my 720p/1080i TV doesn't look that bad!

It still does

Crytek just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about awesome next gen graphics (I'm an expert), but high pixel counts and smooth frame rates are huge parts of them. It's not like this gen where you can become successful by putting out crappy, low resolution slideshows. If you screw customers over in 2013, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the hardcore gamers, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase Ryse, nor will they purchase any of Crytek's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Crytek has alienated an entire demographic with this move.

Crytek, publicly apologize and cancel Ryse or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Fucking hell, does this mean the multiplayer is not native 1080p?

So by native it might mean framerate and not resolution i hope.

When exactly did the comment section of an IGN article become a citable authority? Why are people talking like some random, uninformed user's comments mean anything? I thought people were joking, making fun of an uniformed commenter by posting it, but evidently not.

KZ:SF SP = 1080p 30fps
KZ:SF MP = 1080p 60fps

Unless you've heard something different from an actual source, why ask questions like this?

Because Knack, Drive Club, and KZ really push the boundaries of the PS4.

Actually, they don't. Going by the knowledge of past generations, the PS4 boundaries are still far from being pushed. Which is what excites me about next gen! I'd like to believe that's the same with the xbox one. It's too premature to come to any conclusions based on launch games.
