Lol why would he do thatOr, he's saying that to set expectations, so that if Microsoft announces a $399 price point, everybody will lose their shit and pre-order a Scorpio (whatever its name will be).
Edit: $449 MAX.

That robot ad was a coincidence. The number most likely references the release dateI don't believe Geoff, why else would they have that robot $400 advert? Some sort of trade-in program? As wobbly as Microsoft's PR sometimes is, I don't think they'd mess up like that.
It's $400, or give me a silly tag.
Yes but explain to me why it makes sense for an iterative console whose inferior version hasn't exactly set the world alight. This should be Xbox making money from their hardcore consumer base, not losing it.Trying to think back which console was released at a huge loss.....
Anyone?

I don't either but I don't need one. The benefits to 1080p displays is pretty awesomeI haven't even got a 4k TV $499 LOL RIP
Microsoft spreading rumor about $499. Then they will announce 449 and claim that they won E3.
I wonder if MS would put $499 in their rehearsals to throw leakers off and set expectations, then announce a cheaper price during the conference?
Ya I think this would be a great strategy since expectations are out of control. You have Giant Bomb saying they might come in at $349 this week.I wonder if MS would put $499 in their rehearsals to throw leakers off and set expectations, then announce a cheaper price during the conference?

(Scorpio games are going to look great, but I hate the way MS marketing is putting "True 4K " on everything when some games won't be, and most games would be better off using the power in another way)
I agree, But its aim is 4k. £429 tops for me, problem is $ don't convert to £ that well with MS.I don't either but I don't need one. The benefits to 1080p displays is pretty awesome
I'm on my mobile so it's tough.Calling bs on 'true 4k' on everything. Prove it

Yeah. Before that I was sure it would be 500, but that weird ad made it seem it would be 400. Unless there is some other hidden message in that ad, it's gotta be 399, under 400. Otherwise it would be so fuckin random I'd have to assume John McCain posted it during his Comey rant.
There defenatly aiming this at 1080 peeps as well otherwise what was the point of letting the dev use the power as they pls. Then you're not who they're selling it to anyway....unless you just want downsampling.
As someone with a 4k TV, I'm interested. Also 4k State of Decay, Crackdown, and Forza in multiple rooms (without multiple PC builds) sounds nice.
The point is to make money from the hardcore. I love my PS4 Pro and it looks excellent on my TV and I'll be looking to but this too. They need good PR.
Sales are now moot, Xbox in Europe is dead.
Something, anything.
Or what's the point?
Honestly, those saying that "Microsoft learned nothing" from the original Xbox One launch price are not considering that Scorpio will be considerably more powerful than PS4 Pro whereas the original Xbox One was actually less powerful than PS4.
It's hardly a surprise it would cost more.

Here's the thing, DF got the sneak preview and stated it seemed like a $499 console.
The general notion among consumers is that $499 is not a mass-market price. Also, the XO reveal is still fresh in people's minds so $499 is basically turn the channel and whatevs to most people.
If you have fallout from the price, there was no reason to even do it in the first place, just make some games instead.

The issue is the system doesn't live in a vacuum. It's coming a year later so if you scale up the tech from the pro to the scorpio you should expect to see the same price range. There are other factors to consider though: uhd drive, manufacturing costs, etc. That could contribute to them having a higher SRP. Still it seems a bit odd they would go to that 500 price point again. Maybe they assume the pro won't receive a discount this fall so they're price is justified.
I'm on my mobile so it's tough.
1. The reveal video claims no limits on power and it's a true 4K gaming machine
2. That quick speck sheet. With the 4 numbers and black background say it's "The first true 4K console"
3. They etched "4K" into the chip
4. The mixr stream tweet was "experience true 4K"
5. "Microsoft's 'Project Scorpio' Xbox promises true 4K gaming" link
Just off the top of my head.
I might buy one. Haven't jumped in on Xbox yet this gen as PS4 has had those sweet Japanese games and exclusives. But if this shows well at the conference, I'll bite.
However, at $499 and whatever that will be in £ (probs £450 because Fuck the actual exchange rate, right) this won't help them make up any ground on Sony. Pretty brain dead move. But it costs what it costs and selling at a loss probably won't help them now anyway.
£450 is perfectly fine for what's in there.
So what's the fucking hype for a niche console aimed at the existing and paltry Xbox One install base? lol. Why wait a year for a Jag/Polaris-based console that's $100 more than the competition. Can't be like PS4 and launch $100 cheaper and offer more power? Out of concern for them, $499 actually has an adverse affect on the brand. Better if it didn't exist and the money went elsewhere if you're not aiming at mindshare.A premium device isn't made for the mass market. In any case, the basic Xbox One with Kinect was $500 in 2013, so it's not like MS is above charging that much. At least this time you're getting a bigger hard drive, a much more powerful console, with a 4k bluray player for around the same price. As far as games go, yes they need to improve here. However I don't think they necessarily need a bunch of exclusives. They just need to make sure that Sony gets less exclusives. Not getting ports of games like Nioh, Nier, and many others is what's hurting them more than lack of exclusives to me. I don't even think the 360 had that many exclusives, but Japan was still making many of their games for both PS3 and 360.
Like i said $499 is not smart. It will create a negative narrative.
Exactly what is happening now.
You missed 360 Slim, so Xbox 6, I posted that a few posts above, I'd like that. Would be pronounced Xbox Sex in Sweden. Can't go wrong with that
