Xbox Series X still use Batteries for the Controller WTF???

Nobody's trying to get a new controller cuz it wont recharge anymore. I'll stick with the same four rechargeable batteries ive had for years, thanks.

I mean, those devices that have play and charge kit dont have AA slots.
Again, not sure what is the issue with AA batteries. They are cheap, you can buy rechargeables, they are standard, you can get them everywhere in the world, they are easy to use.
Why to fix something that is not broken in the first place?
What do you mean? The battery plugs into the same place.

I've never seen anyone actually explain why internal batteries are better. Is it the shorter battery life? The need to turn it into a wired controller if it needs to be recharged, like a Dual Shock 2? The way it turns into a brick when the battery dies? The e-waste it generates?

Dont understand OP's anger. Chill dude. Its batteries.

I have both systems so my opinion....

PS: Battery life isnt great. Maybe it's the light bar. Maybe they use a cheap battery and then lock it inside the controller. Regardless, I charge it all the time with the 3ft cable provided.

Xbox: for $20 I buy the play and charge kit and the charge last a very long time. Just bought a 3rd party kit with 2 batteries for $14.
If I dont have a battery, then i can do AA batteries.

I much prefer the XBox option. To me it's one feature that helps make the xbox controller my preffered choice.

So? i don`t mind having the choice to use batteries and the XBOX pad is the best design out there, i can guarantee that the only people moaning about this are people without an xbox (ps4fanboys)

It's embarrassing at this point. Have to save that killer rechargeable battery feature for the $180 controller.

A battery is an essential part, a permanent solution should come by default. Throw in your rechargeable pack and let the people who've convinced themselves that AA is better use them. It's about being cheap over battery, which is embarrassing for a company the size of Microsoft.

Also, the fanboys here with their "permanently plugged in" arguments. Built-in doesn't mean short life, not everything is a Dualshock 4.

OP is a drama queen looking for a problem to complain about.
I like being able to use my Eneloops thank you.

I too am dissappointed. I have to continue to use rechargeable batteries for a wireless controller? Why not wireless transmission of power on demand? Or put a cold fusion reactor in each controller? This business of charging batteries to use non-tethered controllers is so last century. PS5 and Xbox One X are rubbish for relying on batteries.

Day one XB1 user with a rechargeable battery pack from MS, still to this day I get two days or more out of it. Best purchase I ever made.

Slightly less if I use a headset.

Elite pad + Battery pack.

if you use either the official battery pack or one of the hundreds of third party battery packs, yes
Sounds like the 360 setup. They should have evolved it to charge regular AA. My cordless phone does it, my sennehiser cans do it. No reason Xbox couldn't, except no one would buy overpriced batt pack then.

Odd how my Xbox One Controller lasts longer than my PlayStation 4 controller. Maybe it's because I can choose which rechargeble batteries I put in it. Not to mention when my batteries run out, I can quicky swap them out for a fresh pair instead of being tethered to a wall or the system. Grow up you fuckin man children, an internal battery is not a good thing, especially when it ceases to charge any longer.

well I have an Energizer thing that came with a charge cradle and 2 battery packs for 20€
I use them for like 3 years already, both still work without issue and last 10h a charge.

not sure what you think overpriced would be... but that's pretty cheap if you ask me.
the official pack costs also 20€ but it's only 1 battery pack.

Right OP - Fuck Microsoft for making me spend 10 seconds every few days to swap batteries, when I could just sit 3ft away from my TV with the pos DS4 plugged in to the cheap 3ft cord provided because I game for MORE THAN 4 HOURS at a time.

I bought a charger and 4 rechargeable batteries for my Xbox 6 or 7 years ago for $12. I'm still using them and although they don't last quite as long as when new they last infinitely longer than the internal battery in the pos DS4 and I have NEVER had to plug in my Xbox controller and sit 3ft away from my TV in order to play games.

That shit pisseses off, what's stopping them having something like Sony has in theirs?

I luv that about DualShock.
Battery life for one. My ds4 lasts for six hours, my xbox lasts for six days.

and then you have to take into account longevity, built-in chargeable batteries (and shitty third party battery packs) die over time, ive gone through three ds4's because of this. With xbox i just use eneloops and im good

I need to pick up those Energizer rechargeable ones then..That sounds hella nice if they last that long.

Flexibility my ass

I Mean... WTF??!!! In This 2020? Controller still use Batteries AA????

Fuck you Xbox.!!!! People dont wanna waste more money for start to play.... People want Enjoy the new system.

This day and this present year, rechargeable batteries internal is the most basic thing in a controller
I prefer replaceable. My PS4 battery is shot but I'll I have to do for Xbox is go to Best buy and buy a new rechargeable battery for $10

Those are garbage controllers. The Xbox controller is built better, I get around 30 hours out of regular batteries with rumble. I don't want MS to bother with built in batteries. what they currently have is better.

What next all Wireless keyboards and mouses are terrible since they use batteries?
I bet a lot of the Sony Defence Force not doubt even used a wireless keyboard's to type their wind up crap

I remember buying pack of batteries and put away in the closet, many months later the batteries leaked out acids.
Playstation internal battery is better because you don't have to worry about running out and having to go buy at store, especially in time like this where almost everything are out of stock at the stores.

DualShock 4 + Power bank = Best solution!

My Eneloops from 2013 are still going strong and my Xbox controller lasts pretty much a week before I have to swap the batteries out.

My dualshock controller is perpetually plugged in now because it dies in under 2 hours.

Why in the hell would you use regular batteries? Have you never heard of rechargeables? You somewhat have because you showed an image of a power bank that *gasp* recharges. You do know that there are AA rechargeable batteries correct?

Easy solution... have 2x SKU's for the XSX controller.
-One with an internal rechargeable battery.
-One which requires 2x AA batteries or a play and charge kit.

See what the sales stats look like after 12 months.
Microsoft wins either way and consumers get (more) choice.

I love that I don't need a built-in rechargeable battery for my Xbox One, glad they're continuing this trend.

Nothing more annoying than the deteriorated batteries in my PS3 controllers or my Nintendo DS.

Oh sweet now I can be tethered to something that also needs to be charged.

10000 power bank can last very long without needing to recharge, and It charge the controller while you are using. I don't have to worry about pausing my game to change out the batteries.

When the Xbone launched the controller used AAs and people shit their pants about it. When they stuck an internal battery in the Elite S2 people shit their pants about it. They put AAs in the new controller, people shit their pants about it.

I like the 40 hour pack in the Elite S2, but I never had an issue with AAs, because they aren't that complicated. It's not like changing batteries is a 10 minute ordeal.

For anyone vacant enough to not have already done so, go buy an Eneloop kit and never buy new AAs again. They're the most simple thing ever made and take 10 seconds to swap out. Over 2000 cycle count. I've had the same 8 batteries since the X360 days and they'll probably outlast me. Use them in cameras, flashlights, stick them in your dildo, the potential uses are near limitless. Who still buys alkaline batteries at this point?

Because I'm too lazy to keep tracks of each battery needing recharge, it's just a hassle in my book. You also have lots of pieces that can potentially go missing out of sights and sometime lost forever in your home. A controller is just one controller that I have to worry about recharging. A power bank will last very long time before I need to recharge it, and when I do need to recharge the power bank I just charge it overnight.

Do you just have that thing sitting next to you at all times? Sounds to me that eventually you will need to go find it. To each there own, removable batteries are not bad.

So I lost my PS4 controller because his battery didn't live up. I could only play on cable

Also I live in Brazil, so I have to import it. It's not that expensive, but way more than a set of rechargeable AAs with a charger.

It's a matter of math, man. Math

What's with this charade of trying to get rid of personal choice? I would have been very disappointed if the new Xbox controllers didn't use AA. Eneloop blows any internal battery out of the water, not even close. No need for a 10 ft usb cable to keep playing when the controller dies. 2 min battery swap and back in the game. Plus with kids I use eneloop for all their battery toys, it just makes sense.

tldr; get the fuck out of here with your AA hate you bigot

LOL. Replaceable batteries will always be better than internal batteries. My rechargeable batteries will work just fine in the new controllers.

Anyone getting angry about something like this needs their heads checked.

Repeated farting out of my dick

This is the dumbest premise I have seen for a thread in a long time. Replaceable battery will always beat a non-replaceable one.

Get out of the fucking stone age and get some Eneloops. Or, you know, take advantage of the flexibility of having removable batteries and buy the rechargeable batteries of your choice, or a play and charge kit, or a nice tall glass of shut the fuck up.

Also, apparently you have never bought an Xbox or you'd realize that they come with standard batteries in the box, so you don't have to "waste more money for start to play."

Never said removable batteries are bad. I just find Sony solution is more convenience for me, and I place my power bank next to my gaming systems.

Stop buying dollar store batteries then.
