Xbox Series X still use Batteries for the Controller WTF???

This is the dumbest premise I have seen for a thread in a long time. Replaceable battery will always beat a non-replaceable one.

Get out of the fucking stone age and get some Eneloops. Or, you know, take advantage of the flexibility of having removable batteries and buy the rechargeable batteries of your choice, or a play and charge kit, or a nice tall glass of shut the fuck up.

Also, apparently you have never bought an Xbox or you'd realize that they come with standard batteries in the box, so you don't have to "waste more money for start to play."

How come its always the gold members who are the most fanatic?

I spent a lot of money feeding that stupid Xbox360 controller with batteries. I don't have that problem with PS4 controller.
I think the problem is that people doesn't take account different countries when they talk about spent money on batteries.

Psssst! Game consoles aren't the only place to get recharging tech. You can also recharge your own batteries, the same standard ones that work in every other device!

When systems with controllers with built-in batteries become retro collectibles, everyone will have to pry open those controllers to replace the dead batteries. What a pain.

I had about 4 rechargables batteries that didn't resist at all. And since we have one controller for each of my brothers it was not only stupid waiting but moronic spending more money on that crap.
Maybe its cheap for you in your country, but it was no easy feat keep suitained batteries here.
With PS4 controller? Couldn't give a fuck. Just recharge on console or PC. Best of it, you can play normally while recharges.

My ps4 controllers are always plugged in. Fuck wireless.

Well, I think that DS5 should be last longer than this generation. Wouldn't be suprised if Sony goes for 15+ hours. But integrated battery still means you have to put it into the bin after some years. I prefer the solution with the removable rechargeable batteries, A pair of Eneloop run my Xbox One controller for 30+ hours. My first DS4 was recharged so often it barely lasts 3 hours of gameplay now so I feel you.

Well, fair point if your rechargeable batteries wouldn't last. If that's what you mean by "resist".

Perhaps good ones were not available at a decent price in your country.

Not trying to sell you anything. Its just that was a terrible experience to me altogether. I don't have hard feelings for Xbox One controller, it looks great. But keep buying batteries is not for me, big nope. If this PS4 controller was the same, I would probably not pick it as well.

I'd rather have that easier to replace rechargeable battery (play n charge kit) than the battery inside the PS4 gamepad which is kinda of hard to replace without damaging the controller. Microsofts approach is superior in every way. Especially because it gives you options.

An xbox controller with the P&C kit costs about the same as a Dual Shock 4, heck it's even cheaper if you buy an off brand P&C kit. The P&C kit gives you the same functionality as the DS4, you can plug it in wherever you want and keep on playing. You don't have to use AA batteries.

4 AA Eneloops with charger for $18

Buy these once and you're set. Add more batteries and put them in your other various remotes also and you'll no doubt save even more money over the long run, especially since a lot of people seem to think that the only AA battery options are the super shitty off brand ones that last a few hours at best.

I use these in my Xbox controller, 4 other Xbox controllers (kids/wife), 2 tv controllers, 2 VR controllers and after the initial investment, haven't had to buy more in years. You can even pay a little more for the faster charger but the link is for the basic set.

I bought 8 AA rechargable batteries with a recharger for 8€ from Amazon 8 years ago. Still works. Whenever my battery is empty, I can change them within 10 seconds with new ones and can play without a cable. I prefer this to 100% over plugging in a cable and play with a cable while the controller is loading. Also price for new batteries is waaaay cheaper then a new controller.

I wish PlayStation would switch to this as it's a lot less tedious than replacing a lithium ion battery or buying a new remote, and if buying a new dual shock 3 today is any indication it's only going to get harder.

Getting up in arms about this is kind of ridiculous imo. There are upsides that a lot of peopel in this thread already listed.

I had no idea replaceable batteries were still a thing till I saw this commercial

I'd almost rather use AA batteries over the pathetic shit quality Sony has been releasing for the past 15 years. You can charge your controller's battery while using it though.

Easy solution... have 2x SKU's for the XSX controller.
-One with an internal rechargeable battery.
-One which requires 2x AA batteries or a play and charge kit.

See what the sales stats look like after 12 months.
Microsoft wins either way and consumers get (more) choice.
This is a perfectly sensible course of action to take. I sure as shit don't want one with an internal battery, but diffent strokes and all.

Ugh, I hate the prices of controllers this gen. In Canada, PS4 controllers are about $50 if I remember correctly, which isn't bad when you compare them to XB1 which are $69 (about $80 with tax in my province) Joycons are $99 (about $114) and Pro Controllers are around $89.

Of course you have cheaper third party options, but I'm rarely impressed with the build quality.

Xbox and PS4 ones are on sale for under $50 all the time. Never pay $70

Pro controller usually drops to $59-$69 around Boxing Day

then don't use AA batteries... there are multiple options...

choose one. rechargeable, some with cables some with charge stations... you got the official bundle that comes with a battery, a cable and a mono headset.
AND aside from all of these you can also use AA batteries if you want to

The choices here are good, but i'd rather not bother personally.

I remember as early as the PS3, the joy of not having to worry about batteries anymore was amazing. The only thing i've ever had to replace are the USB cords.

If i have to choose between buying AA's/3rd party battery pack, i'd honestly just get a wired controller.

In fact, I think the last 360 controller i had was wired, or i bought a wired adapter or some shit, can't remember.

Not bout that AA battery life.

How come its always the gold members who are the most fanatic?

BRUH i thought i was the only one who noticed??

they have the WILDEST fucking opinions around here yo

Then again, the thought of paying to post on a forum has never even crossed my mind.....so...

Got to sell you that play and charge kit, mate

Not like 1st gen PS4 controller were better. Battery life is shit. New PS4 controller battery life is better. But still shit.

So you have 2 choices. Buy batteries or shit battery life.
Well for next gen that is not entirely true, Sony have already said how they've dramatically improved battery life. And to palm having batteries off as having better battery life is why we are behind, because people accept the bullshit they do. It's a money making scheme to sell additional accessories. I complained this current gen about the Xbox Controller having batteries. Maybe Microsoft just needs to get some better R&D regarding battery life if that's the reason why we still get AA's... News Flash.. It's not!!!

With normal AA batteries, you just swap for new or keep 2 pairs of rechargeables and never have to connect the controller. And Xbox gamepad lasts like 40 hours on 1 set.

Well I guess the bright side is after 40 hours you will have played all the xbox games you'll ever want to 😂😂😂

No no I'm just kidding. I have a x1x!

.....I've probably played it less than 40 hours......

EXACTLY! Options, not having to throw away the controller and never plug it in.

I've had 360. Xbox one pad I use on PC. I kinda like ds4 more this gen but it's battery sucks and PC usage sucks too.

Is this guy for real? AA batteries are far better than risking some internal battery you can't change craps out on you. The moment my controller dies, I already have my backup eneloop batteries ready to go.

Honestly batteries are a model we should have developed further : a standard, one-fit-all model than can work across all devices. Instead of having all controllers/phones/whatever have their own power storage, we could have a unique standard that you could easily swap from one device to another. It's better for your wallet and the environment.
Do they at least have passthrough charging via the controller cable? That was my biggest gripe with the XB1 controller, having to open them up and take out batteries to charge them.

I just open the damn thing up and swap the batteries. Then throw the dead pair on the charger.

My Eneloops from 2013 are still going strong and my Xbox controller lasts pretty much a week before I have to swap the batteries out.

My dualshock controller is perpetually plugged in now because it dies in under 2 hours.

Why in the hell would you use regular batteries? Have you never heard of rechargeables? You somewhat have because you showed an image of a power bank that *gasp* recharges. You do know that there are AA rechargeable batteries correct?

eneloops are amazing. My oldest ones are from 2009 and still test out at over 1850 mAh. Not bad for a $2 cell.

Anyway, built-in, non-user replaceable Li-Polymer batteries are fine in devices like phones and tablets because of the high drain requirements and space/form factor constraints. For bulky, low-power draw devices like controllers, I prefer eneloops.

Better yet, they should design a controller around an 18650 or 21700 Li-Ion; on-board charging and user replaceable. Some of my flashlights are like this.

Proves the majority of people are clueless. AA batteries is the best feature ever in a controller. I game for ages and when the battery finally dies I instantly change them. The stupid DualShock 4 spends half of its life docked, going a measly 4 or 5 hours on a charge. Actually the controller is shit so I gave up using it and bought an Astro C40 for gaming on the PS4. And besides all that, any serious gamer on Xbox should be also rocking both an Elite Series 1 and Elite Series 2 for different games, moods and controller grip styles. I am a four paddle guy on the series 2, 2 paddles on the series 1. RPGs on the series 1. Better ergonomics. Series 2 better paddles, tighter sticks and controls. Better for shooters, action games, combat, etc. Built in battery is shit. It weighs too much. But at least it lasts 50 hours....I hate charging it. I got enough shit to plug in already.

If they changed to internal I'd be pissed. The rechargeable batteries you can get are amazing and I want the controller to last forever, not get a new one when the internal battery dies.
If you hate changing batteries the play and charge kit is an option but if you don't want to give Microsoft more money for some reason the eneloops you can get will destroy any internal battery.
I guess the switch pro controller has good battery life, though once again won't last forever.

Honestly, for my household it's probably preferable. Unless the battery capacity of the controller is really awesome. Even then, my wife is often prone to forget to charge things (to my annoyance, and since the PS4 is terrible with battery time, it's REALLY annoying).
So I don't have a problem with a solution like a battery pack or using AA batteries. It likely gives you far more flexibility, though it might also cause issues like what 360 controllers at least have (with the connection). I honestly think the best option should've been to include a battery pack and the part for using AA batteries. Thus given a choice, but keeping both standard. Still battery packs and AA batteries give you the ability to easily switch and not have to worry about charging. So overall it's likely the better decision. I know I have less pains with my Xbox 360 controller for my PC, compared to the PS4 controllers and PS3 controllers.
It also allows for Microsoft to sell you additional battery packs and likely some sort of dock to put them in to recharge as well. It also gives you the option to switch out the battery pack, instead of buying a new controller if the battery starts to go bad.

Because I'm too lazy to keep tracks of each battery needing recharge, it's just a hassle in my book. You also have lots of pieces that can potentially go missing out of sights and sometime lost forever in your home. A controller is just one controller that I have to worry about recharging. A power bank will last very long time before I need to recharge it, and when I do need to recharge the power bank I just charge it overnight.

There's nothing to keep track of. An Eneloop kit comes with 4 batteries and a charger. just rotate two pairs in the charger. Label that side Xbox with a marker if you can't remember something like "where do the batteries go?". How is that in any way complicated?.

Flexibility my ass

I Mean... WTF??!!! In This 2020? Controller still use Batteries AA????

Fuck you Xbox.!!!! People dont wanna waste more money for start to play.... People want Enjoy the new system.

This day and this present year, rechargeable batteries internal is the most basic thing in a controller

It's funny... Replaceable batteries are absolutely superior to built-in batteries in every way.

When replaceable batteries were removed from phones people balked. Once the battery life was over, the phone was useless and led to upgrading more often. I miss replacing the battery in my old S3 and have it be "new" again.

I still use my Xbox 360 controller for my PC. I got that pad in 2008. Inuse rechargeable batteries and it gets like 25+ hours of charge.

Both my PS3 controllers are in great shape, batteries are done so they're useless.

One of my PS4 controllers, the same.

Invest in some rechargeable AA batteries. It'll save you tons of $$$ and make this look nonsensical. In fact, it's consumer friendly and the better option for longevity. And you can use them in other things besides controllers. LPT

But you do get the fact that if my Xbox Controller Batteries run out, I can still hook it up via cable just like you with the DS4 and keep playing, right?
Batteries are literally the better solution because I can swap them out in a instant if they run out, you can recharge your own batteries to always have a pair ready and charged and in worst case when you happen to have none ready, you can still use the cord and keep playing.

I don't know what country you live in that batteries are not easy to have around or keep them charged, but here in Germany you can use Amazon to even buy 48 batteries for.. jesus 12€ or so?
I swear I gamed roughly a year or two on those before I had to buy new ones. The only thing that screwed over some gaming sessions were the DS4 controllers when I forgot to charge them before gaming and one of us had to sit close to the TV to charge them while playing.

We've done this before.
Whenever I read "anti-consumer" somewhere by now, my first reaction is to just laugh and expect that some person has no real clue what they are talking about or the entire topic is unrelated to consumers in the first place...
It's become such a worthless phrase.
