Xenoblade Chronicles (EU) release moved up, Now August 19th

It's worth noting that the Aussie versions of Nintendo games are usually based on the NA localisations even though they're PAL-coded. Hmm.

Except when the games aren't released in the US, in which case the Aus versions are based on the EU localizations.
Why is that anyway? Australia uses the same British spellings that the rest of not-America uses, right?

There are definitely a ton of first-party DS games with NA localisations, and we got a bunch of GC/GBA games with NA translations as well. I'm honestly drawing a blank when it comes to Aussie Wii games with NA translations but I don't doubt they exist. I have seen the reasons for this addressed by someone at NOA - Vooks interview, maybe?

Unless, there really is a NA version floating around.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at.

Canada gets the American spellings in games, of course.

It's crazy.. how can you even begin to sound out the word "colour" without the silent U?

Since when? I've never seen American spelling in my Nintendo games.

One of the stars in Super Mario Galaxy uses the spelling "Favorite" in the PAL version. This was probably just an oversight, though.

And as for Aussie things, we only get the US translations when there is going to be a big delay in them going to Europe, like with Animal Crossing: Wild World. Otherwise, we definitely get the same PAL version as the rest of the PAL region. I don't know where the idea that we 'usually' get US translations comes from. It does happen, but it's rare.

So even though my Wii is american, I am taking it easy with this game because I am in Europe but I'd consider getting cool pre-order stuff if I would just find a site that would tell me what it is!

the Question:

Where (which online stores) and what do I get as preorder bonus in UK and GERMANY?

Game.co.uk. They the only store with the exclusive limited collector's edition.

Thanks!

So I went to the site, searched xenoblade and there are two products: the standalone game and the one with the red controller but I can't find anything resembling a preorder bonus in the games' descriptions.

can someone please help me here? Thanks again!

The number of pre-order bundles is limited, so fans must be quick if they want to get their hands on the three exclusive posters depicting the landscapes and characters of Xenoblade Chronicles, as well as the red Classic Controller Pro. Xenoblade Chronicles is also available to buy or pre-order as software only.

To pre-order your copy of the game or the Xenoblade Chronicles bundle and to receive your special pre-order items ahead of the new release date, place an order at GAME or gamestation before the game is released across Europe on 19th August 2011.

I have no idea why there's no mention of the three posters on GAME and gamestation's Xenoblade product pages. Retailers in other countries made sure to include it in the item description.

AU prices are insane. I want the CD edition but the cost is prohibitive and I'll already have 3 Xenoblade copies by then.
I'm not exactly sure why Nintendo thinks they can get away with $98. Unless that's actually the limited edition bundle, it's too niche for that price tag. Should be $78 for the stand alone copy.

German media outlet "GameOne" plays the first hour of Xenoblade.

http://gameone.de/blog/2011/8/1-stunde-mit-xenoblade-chronicles

Gameplay starts at 4:30. The video is, of course, in German and the dude playing talks over it over the course of the complete video. So it's probably only interesting if you understand what he's saying, but just the beginning really gives an amazing impression of the game.

Everything is so seamless, expansive, dynamic and beautiful. I can't wait to play this myself.

I'm buying a Wii for this game. Funny thing is I have not seen a single gameplay trailer/screenshot or anything. All this word of mouth and the localisation issues really peaked my interest.

The voice acting is much better than expected!

Is the deal online just online? Or could I pick it up day 1 in store?
It's in store as well, but you'll probably have to pre-order since from now on stores are only being allocated according to how many pre-orders they get.

Agreed, I was expecting it to be rather painful but that is acceptable.

So, if I import the bundle it'll cost 70~ dollars without shipping.

However, if were to buy the game regularly (as in a US release) and by a classic controller pro, it'll still cost me 70~ dollars.

Hmmm, I'm thinking of importing this, even if there is a small chance of it being released here.

I just bit the bullet and pre-ordered the special edition from Game.UK. Now I just need to mod my Wii. My anger jets cooled down a bit over the past few weeks towards this whole NoA debacle.

I've had to import Shadow Tower Abyss and a few other games back on PS2 because they never made it to the US. So, at this point, what's the difference? Business sucks and this industry sucks, but I need to play certain games regardless. I can't get myself to just DL the games illegally either. It just doesn't feel right no matter how you justify it.

Well, whatever, as long as I don't brick my Wii during the modding process I'll finally be able to play Xenoblade!

From what little I heard of the game, the voice acting definitely sounds better than I anticipated.

I only skipped through the video, but I swear that guy mentioned Xenogears and Xenosaga about 10 times during what I saw.

It's the SRP of all standard Wii games here, so I'm not surprised at all. Thankfully, EB are the only ones who actually tend to charge the SRP. Big W and JB will almost surely have it in the $68-$78 price range.

Should have posted this in this thread I guess:

So, in anticipation of the European release, I fired up my import copy again. If you've seen a few trailers, chances are you've seen a beautiful vista with a huge waterfall, complete with a rainbow, far in the distance. Just for shits and giggles, I wanted to know if you can actually go there...

Well, turns out you can. It's very far and it takes ages, you have to swim and the current gets quite strong the closer you get, but you'll eventually reach it. No invisible wall or anything. It's huge. So huge, in fact, that you can't really appreciate it anymore once you get there. And there's absolutely nothing there. Except for the waterfall, of course. At first, I was kinda disappointed. I expected a landmark, or at least an achievement for swimming all the way out, but no - absolutely nothing. Then I realized that there's actually nothing to be disappointed about: Swimming all the way takes forever and is really boring, so any associated achievement would have been a pain in the ass. I swam there because I wanted to see if it's possible, not to get an achievement after all. And it is possible. That, in itself, is pretty damn cool.

So, in short: If you can see something, you can get there. But if reaching a certain place doesn't seem worthwhile, it probably isn't. ;)

PS: Also, this game would blow minds in 3D. You don't really understand how huge some environments and structures are unless you stand right in front of them, at which point they become so incredibly huge that you can't really appreciate their size anymore.
Something I wanted to add, though: Current is your friend in Xenoblade. If there's a river, is almost always kind of fun to simply jump in, go to the toilet or grab a coffee, and look where you ended up. There's quick travel after all. :)

No, it's not. 90% of Wii games have an RRP of $78.
Since when? I've only seen the more casual, discount games like Brain Age come out at that price point. The same ones that sell at the US$40 price point in the States. I admit I haven't been following local prices closely this year, but I'm certain the normal SRP was $99.95 up until the end of 2010 at the very least.

I've only ever seen big first party guarenteed sellers and hardware bundles release at that price. Pretty much all other games have been $80 or below. Maybe if you never bought a third party title or smaller Nintendo release you might not have noticed.

I used to mix my local and import purchases pretty evenly until the dollar reached parity late last year and I do have quite a large, well-mixed collection (over 50 games with at least half bought locally). Looking at the coming soon titles on EB, it seems there are a lot more games coming out at the $80 price point rather than the $100 which I am much more familiar with from all companies. It seems it is a recent change. I guess some of the third parties are beginning to be a little fairer in their pricing since I stopped paying attention to local pricing, but the pricing of Nintendo published stuff hasn't changed at all, and XC is a non-casual Nintendo game, so of course it's going to be this price.

OMG how long can this guy talk? Can only hear a few bits and pieces :/

I'll clear this up:

Portable 1st party games (GBA/DS) are/were usually the NA version/localization (no idea about 3DS sorry). This makes sense because the DS/GBA weren't region locked, and Australia just needs English, not all those extra languages. There are some cases where Aus got a European version or its own version, but these are the exception rather than the rule.

For home consoles things obviously need to be in the PAL format, so 99% of time Aus gets the European localization like you'd expect.

Useless information: Running straight through Gaur Plains, entry landmark to exit landmark, no battles or anything, as fast as possible, takes six minutes, 40 seconds.

Reserved the LE at game today, it's listed at £59.99 but hopefully this will change closer to release. Gonna get it regardless..really looking forward to it. Just looks incredible and the scale of the game is impressive.

Monolith has really stepped it up from baten kaitos and their love and care is clear to see in the game. The iwata asks with them was really interesting and I'm looking forward to what they do on wii u. In the meantime they'll get my support with xenoblade. Hopefully it does well enough that their future projects make it over here aswell.

Useless information #2: Running as straight as possible (9 areas) through the whole map takes about 50 minutes minimum ;) You can increase the time, if you cross more landscapes.
