Xenoblade X Localization Changes for Character Models

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA7uW-Efy3k

So in short the two changes to the character models are:

-Lin's base model has been changed so that the bikinis are not as revealing. (This was already known)
-The character creator has been modified so that the bust slider has been removed and so therefore when creating a female character, all female characters created by the player have by default medium-sized breasts.

The rest of the character models are the same, so there are no more changes on that front.

Dude. Are you ****ing serious?

big one looks bad anyway

Doesn't really effect me but still taking it out because of a few deviants isn't the best reasoning. how bout you disable it when using the smaller body if it bugs you that much. I understand the Lin edit...different standards for different cultures and all that. But the other change is just sloppy and opens up new issues.

Cant say I am too happy for the insane edits FE# will get then.
Don't like the precedent this sets.

We 1990's now?

This is a puzzling choice, but it's not going to stop me from buying the game. I'm more concerned with what this means for future games with actual 'problematic' content, like FE Fates.

Thank you. People seem to be so hung up on the slider or how this attitude manifests itself specifically in this instance, when they should be worrying about what message we are collectively sending when we say tampering with and censoring content is OK.

I admit that was a dumb discussion, largely due to how I interpreted how that person used "remove."

Yes, it was removed in relation to the Japanese version, but my point was that it will never have existed in the first place for the North American market, and only people who are hardcore enough to follow very specific details of the Japanese version will notice, and an even smaller number of them will be bothered by it in any way.

Oh, sure, they definitely put that option in for "the ladies." Uh huh.
Fair enough.

Anyway, here are my thoughts. I reject the notion that Nintendo removed the slider to prevent Lin recreations. I don't even know how you could arrive at that conclusion. I also don't agree with the idea that Nintendo removed it as a slight against women with small or large breasts. I think the reasoning is simple, actually. I think that NoA just thinks that most people will look at the slider as a tool in sexualizing breasts, and they don't want that in the game. Personally, I don't care whether its there or not, but it is unfortunate that NoA thought it was a big enough deal to remove something that was already there.

What is this misogynist, patriarchal bullshit? Women should be able to make avatars that resemble themselves, breasts and all.

Removal of Breast Size slider seems odd.
Would there really be a outcry if that was left in? Don't recall it going crazy like the recent MMO thread we had. Oh well sucks that nintendo keeps changing stuff, but at least it doesn't actually affect the game itself.

Some could argue it affects the game because immersion, etc.

Dat family console? Who knows. The rating is T though. Its almost like they were trying for E with this game and other games they have censored.

The Fatal Frame game which got "censored" is still rated M.

To be fair I'm a man and in the majority of the character customizations out there I rarely find a hair style that matches mine and it's an uncommon one... There's something about people with curly hair too I guess.

The character creator is missing a ton of other features that would be required to allow for that, so kind of a moot point. It really doesn't allow for a ton of variety, even with the breast slider.

If you are angry at a game due to player bust size, why are you playing to begin with?
The anger is due to lack of player bust size customisation in an RPG. Customisation options that were present in the version of the game we've been seeing from the other side of the globe for ages now.

Also for the record, no I'm not frothing at the mouth over this and still have the game preordered (special edition, even.)

I love how Nintendo still feels they have to parent everybody.
Let people make their own damn choices.
Its insulting and demeaning to their fans.

Breast size is a pretty significant aspect when it comes to defining how a female looks, like it or not.

If you're trying to represent someone digitally, taking the option away entirely is limiting.

As an adult, I can understand this without becoming hyper sensitive over sexulisation in video games.

I think we all know that at this point Fates (and by extension #FE) are going to get edits in some way, shape or form. The question is how big will the edits be and will it actually affect the gameplay?

I wasn't getting this before any of those censorship changes but good job with your localization, Nintendo. Not including the japanese voice option (would be okay if the dub was british honestly), removing and altering content, strange localization name changes. You outdid yourslef with this one. It's like we're back in the SNES era, when we didn't know better.

I'm more annoyed by the fact that you can't make the bust smaller than medium. I usually go small/med for a more athletic looking character.

You couldn't even make fat characters in the Japanese version, let's not pretend that this breast size slider was part of a comprehensive character creator. You could change face, height and breast size, but your character had to be thin. It's silly that they removed it but even with it you could only produce a very limited range of characters.

How old were the characters in that game? I didn't buy it cause they didn't release a physical version.

They were 17 and 19, I think.

Note that the enligh #FE trailers claim "This game is expected to be rated Mature" or something like that.

I saw someone mention this before in this thread but I apparently missed this news elsewhere. Do we know there's no Japanese voices?

As per GameXplain preview there aren't, not surprising considering the game's size. If I recall correctly dual audio was the reason Xenoblade Chronicles ended up using a dual layer disc.

I did mention that before in the thread, though some people think it will be rated T instead. That said, I only mentioned #FE because Fatal Frame also had a couple of alterations despite it being M rated and #FE has more risque material in it, so to speak.

Well, according to some people the slider is just masturbation fodder.

In the fight for better representation of women in video games one of the awful side effects has been people body shaming real body types that women have. Removing overly sexy stuff that is only there to serve as masturbatory material for men is one thing, but removing an option that the player can use to express themselves or better represent themselves in the game is awful. The existence of different breast sizes is not inherently sexual, it's a fact of life, it is how they are presented in games that is the problem, but we constantly have people wanting to get rid of anything that they see as not the "normal" size because "it's sexual", what people don't realize is that claiming that large or small breasts only exist for sexual reasons is body shaming actual real life women. Breast sizes should not be an issue, it should be how the outfits in the game present them and removing the ability to have different breast sizes misses the point entirely.

So its ok to limit options even further because there wasn't a wealth of choices to begin with?

That would be a nice excuse if it was a Wii game, but this game in particular has a bunch of downloadable data packs AND modified content. Was it too hard to make an extra pack with the japanese voice option?

Well, one difference is that #FE had fanservice in its trailer right at E3 for the world to see. There's also the fact that #FE will almost certainly(if not already confirmed) have animated cutscenes with the character's outfit that you'd expect to get changed, but will be more difficult due to it being an animated cutscene rather than an in-game one.

I guess removing the breast slider is a new initiative to stop masturbation. PSA from Nintendo. Protecting families at all costs. Right GAF?

Could be for a variety of other reasons.

They made have made changes in the localization to the point that the dialogue would no longer match up 1:1 with the Japanese voice tracks.

It could also be due to a rights issue. Not being able to secure international rights for specific voice actors is entirely possible. Or maybe it would have just cost too much to secure those rights.

Last post on the matter:

changing the lin swimsuit outfit, that's absolutely fine, no problem with that, I don't really care one way or the other

removing a character design option is just plain weird and silly though since the whole point is to make your own character, limiting options is just something I don't like

A part of me hopes that Takahashi's next game has a set character so we don't have to go through this crap again.

Or you could look at why they're most likely doing it (to stop characters that look like children wearing the skimpy outfits) and realize that while stupid it makes a bit of twisted sense.

This isn't some slippery slope FFS.

That is true. However, there could be more minor changes that aren't affected by the animated cutscenes.
