Xenoblade X Localization Changes for Character Models

I did mention that before in the thread, though some people think it will be rated T instead. That said, I only mentioned #FE because Fatal Frame also had a couple of alterations despite it being M rated and #FE has more risque material in it, so to speak.

Yeah those panties with a zipper have been shown more than once. We'll see what they do with that game.

That would be a nice excuse if it was a Wii game, but this game in particular has a bunch of downloadable data packs AND modified content. Was it too hard to make an extra pack with the japanese voice option?

I thought about that too, but got to see how big it would've been.

Or you could look at why they're most likely doing it (to stop characters that look like children wearing the skimpy outfits) and realize that while stupid it makes a bit of twisted sense.

This isn;t some slippery slope FFS.

I told myself I wouldn't post anymore but here, ok why remove the boob slider, why not just make it so you can't make a young character but only an adult and up? That's an option in the character maker.

So because someone might do that we all get punished?

Even adult women have small breast size, though.

I really don't think this is the reason NoA made this change. Is there some indication? Because I keep hearing this.

Makes no sense to me. Not even a twisted sense.

You can't make children in XenobladeX. Chest size is not a very good indicator of age.

Not specifically directed at you, but I'm actually pretty bothered that apparently having a smaller chest means you're closer to a child than a woman.

Didn't they say at the PAX Prime panel that nothing was going to be cut or changed?

So much for that I guess.

See, that actually pisses me off far more than the change itself. If you're going to change/cut things, don't fucking say you're not. If the call hadn't been made yet, say that. Don't bullshit me.

I really don't think this is the reason NoA made this change. Is there some indication? Because I keep hearing this.

I don't think there's any official statement that implies that to be the reason, but it's the one that makes the most sense. They changed Lin because they didn't want the Western version to have an underage girl in a bikini and since your avatar can technically look like (whilst not being, and not even in the "1000 year-old dragon" way) an underage girl and wear a bikini they modified character creation, limiting it to characters with clearly developed breasts.

I don't know, I'm just not seeing the connection. Are breasts the only thing separating a young looking girl avatar from a grown woman avatar? It just seems to me more of a "please don't sexualize breasts" than a "don't make young looking girls" issue.

I really think they made the change because a lot of Americans might think it's weird to be able to adjust the breast size of a character. The game is rated T, they didn't feel like it made sense, it makes absolutely no difference in the grand scheme of the game so they pulled it in localization.

The fact that people are acting like this is heinous censorship brought on by a wrathful and angry bunch of Puritanical conspirators or that removing the slider is sexist against women with large or small breasts are just trying to find a legitimate reason to get upset about removing something they found visually appealing. The PCs barely even look human, so I really doubt anyone is going to make a stronger connection with the character because they can more closely approximate their own breast size via character creation.

Fallout 4 has a 100 times more advanced and detailed character creator where the end result might turn out looking like someone you might see walking down the street and not a body pillow, and it didn't have a breast slider because that's not something you commonly see in Western games. So here comes a game from Japan, where they have a different culture, and Nintendo made a few small edits to make things more inline with what the American/European audience expects. The vast majority of people who buy the game in Amierca/Europe won't know there was ever a breast slider and they won't miss it.

Sure. We're all just spitballing here because it seems like such an unreasonable change to make. But I think there are characters in your party with a larger than medium chest whom you can dress in a bikini still, so a general dislike for sexualisation of breasts seems less likely to me.

All stabs in the dark, though.

I understand the changes for Lyn (I agree with it) but not of the chracter creator because Sims 4 has a breast slider and it's rated for Teen, lol

And found it! Don't know who this dude is, but he obviously was there in person and overheard it from the NoA or 8-4?

I'm a little confused, why are the breasts of the Young Adult bigger than the Adult ones on the first screenshot?

...man what the fuck? This is so stupid. What an absolutely unnecessary, asinine change. Needless censorship like this really fucking irks me. To the point where I don't even want to support the game. I don't want to support this stupidity in any way. Lyn, I understand, it makes sense. But women can't have big boobs because "reasons" is just stupid. Any justification they make up for this is pure horseshit.

Do we know the rationale as to why they even bothered? Why not take the time to add more character options, not remove what few are already there?

I am ok with the pedo nerf, but removing a slider? Nonsense. All women have medium breasts, ok then...

Since you probably missed the first few pages, the argument against "all women don't have medium breasts" is that the character creator is very limited as it is, so having a breast slider as one of a very few body options (I believe only height, weight and breasts) might elude to a prioritization of sexuality from the developers.

What likely happened is the "pedo nerf" just drew more attention to the rest of the game so they pulled the breast slider, too, because they were taking a closer look. When they realize the developer is making some sketchy choices with how they're displaying (young) women it just brings the whole game under more scrutiny. It's funny that so many people are making that same disconnect, though. "Yeah, the young girl stuff is okay to remove, but not the breast slider!" as if a breast slider is a major aspect of the game or a staple of character creation.

Oh give it a fucking rest. "Americans" think no such goddamn thing, and to say so is actually pretty insulting to Americans AND the Japanese

Please.

Literally the only person making this argument is you. No one else has agreed with this position

Hmm, I guess that makes sense. So censorship brings more censorship. Thanks Nintendo!
Having a breast slider is not the end of the world.

I would say the character creator is limited in terms of body building, even before this.

But a big part of this audience are people that enjoy japanese aesthetics, japanese stuff. Let's not pretend that we live in isolated regions and there's not cultural exchange.

I'm sorry if there have been threads about this before, but what about the European version? Does it have the same modifications?

That will be interesting to see.

The DLC of Fire Emblem Awakening wasn't censored in Europe, while in the US they didn't show Tharja's butt. Differences in localization are quite common for Nintendo games.

So there's still hope that at least the european version won't be censored.

It just feels so wrong removing any customization options despite it's nature though. Removing options is never a fun thing in general.

I hate to break it to you, but the people on this board are a very small minority of the general public. Not many people in America or Europe are going to be into the same aesthetics with Japanese stuff as you are. You're obviously upset that you can't jack up the breast size of your character and I get that.

I find it really sad how the only reaction some people have to breasts is "OMG THIS IS SEXUAL AND BAD AND MUST BE REMOVED"

If you pay attention you might notice some nuance in the arguments. People aren't saying that. They're saying that some Japanese games and media are fucking weird to people who don't live in Japan so they pulled the content in localization. What are your feelings about the other change?

So it's confirmed that the european version will be censored as well?

Sorry, hadn't noticed that yet.
Yeah, someone responded to my original question with this:
I already posted earlier in this thread that the EU version has the same modifications, but without a link to a video that demonstrated this. I've just refound the video I came across earlier today that shows there is no bust slider: https://youtu.be/CisE23k0-q8?t=426

I find the removal of the slider to be eye-rolling, but a lot of the defenses of it have been way more sexist and gross than the existence of the slider ever possibly could be.

Like, have any of you ever considered that maybe something being "sexualized" is not the end of the world and doesn't mean its bad?

Cool, it gives me a good excuse to not buy this even if it's good. I need to save money.

Well, the game looks quite ugly (in parts) and the import impressions are lukewarm, so I guess we won't miss much.

Agreed.
